  1. depends on what you mean by "improved". they have a better record, but i don't think they're a better team. the goal differential has been catching up to them. they were a more skilled team last year with better defense and better goaltending (although the goaltending isn't the FO's fault), they just happened to blow a lot of close games last season.
  2. what the hell else are they going to spend the money on? this is just being cheap.
  3. i just dont see any reason to think he'll get more next offseason than this offseason. by most accounts, a lot of people are after him THIS offseason
  4. you don't really know what your team/payroll is going to look like 3-4 years into the future, and you don't know what your needs are going to be. if you figure a guy is worth 5 mil a year and he's going to be making 7-8 million towards the end of the contract because you backloaded it, that might end up hurting you more than you can anticipate. it's risky because you're sacrificing future payroll flexibility to get him cheaper at the beginning. i don't really care that much about backloaded contracts, but saying it's "always" a good idea is pretty silly. you never know exactly what your team/situation is going to look like 3-4 into the future.
  5. what would be the point of fielder doing this? he's going to get paid this offseason.
  6. i don't have much hope for rip making any kind of difference
  7. he'll probably add another "tough guy" and ignore adding talent. just like the offseason.
  8. wow we're so fucked the worst part is that this is the stretch where this team needed to be racking up points. tons of home games, lots of easy opponents (like edmonton and colorado). what's going to happen when they go on that brutal 9 game road trip in a few weeks? it could get really ugly.
  9. good game for the bulls, but noah makes me sad
  10. maybe she just browned out
  11. The obvious answer is you ride it out until/unless the team goes to a significantly worse record and playoff position. I don't think Q is in any danger this year, regardless. He won a Cup. That buys him time to turn things around, even if it isn't this year. i agree that you wait longer, but the cup is irrelevant at this point. that was 2 years ago. last year i'd say he had a free pass or whatever. the honeymoon is over now.
  12. i know it seems ridiculous to say this for a team that is 24-13-5, but when do we start consider making a coaching change? this is the second straight year where the team is visibly unable to put out a consistent effort on a nightly basis. last year we wrote it off as a cup hangover. what now?
  13. can we start a thread where we throw out random topics and davearm and wsr discuss them with each other? i feel like it would be pretty cool
  14. when they're still calling castro a rapist in 2019 tell me if it's annoying
  15. yea i'm more terrified that an athlete on my favorite sports team is a bad person
  16. cashner is 25, is hurt all the time, and has only had one super impressive stretch in the minors. oh, and he isn't even a starter at this point. this trade is awesome.
  17. even if no legal action is taken, cards fans are still going to be able to make fun of castro for this for the next decade..... and all we'll be able to say is "we don't know what really happened!"
  18. oh no we suck again
  19. go go boozer
  20. the hawks aren't a bad team or anything, but they play some ugggly basketball on the offensive end
  21. heh you're all welcome
