  1. why are yankees fans so in love with greg bird? i'm already seeing them fantasize on twitter about the 2018 lineup by listing stanton, judge, sanchez, and.... bird.
  2. you know what i meant. i considered changing it to "best" instead of "good" for clarification, but i'm too lazy. i'm not complaining about the front office or anything like that, i just think it would be cool to come away with one of these tanaka/darvish/ohtani level guys If you're not going to consider Soler, a guy who had played in a high level foreign league and was highly sought after, then you're drawing from an incredibly narrow pool. Even on your list you have Darvish, who had a 50 million posting fee in Theo's first offseason when they were nowhere close to contention, and Tanaka, who has never hit 200 IP and is so good he decided not to opt out of that deal because his arm is held together with bits of string. I'd have liked to have any of those 3 too, but it's a big leap for me to be frustrated by the outcomes or to feel like there's been some persistent shortcoming. you're reading too much into my comments. i'd think that you would know that i know the significance of guys like soler, torres, and jimenez. i was talking about these top tier, major league ready guys that become big fun stories leading up to their decisions. i'm not complaining about our success in ifa. really i just want one of these japanese phenoms badly, so i made a short post to pout.
  3. The Cubs have a World Series ring(Torres for Chapman) and Quintana(Eloy) because they got the very best IFAs in a particular class. you know what i meant. i considered changing it to "best" instead of "good" for clarification, but i'm too lazy. i'm not complaining about the front office or anything like that, i just think it would be cool to come away with one of these tanaka/darvish/ohtani level guys. i understand that the majority of teams haven't gotten to have it happen to them either.
  4. i never really had my hopes up for ohtani, but it is frustrating that we keep missing out on all the good international free agents
  5. just because he's willing to come to mlb for cheap doesn't mean money is completely irrelevant to him. it feels like seattle told him they'd be able to get a certain amount for him if he committed, they got word he's choosing them, and now they're just grabbing the money as quickly as possible to wrap this up.
  6. if you knew we had no chance at harper, would you want stanton?
  7. Why would they need more money then? he told them he might as well get maxed out if he’s going to sign there and they are in no position to say no. yep
  8. once they smell the tank w, they are unstoppable
  9. i think i remember a verified person on twitter saying that sf is one of his preferred options
  10. Are you talking about shazier? yeah. i just can't watch tackle football anymore.
  11. i had no idea who he was until now
  12. debrincat looks like a star, but that seabrook extension was crushing
  13. he should veto every trade that's not to a home run friendly park. that's what i would do, since he's already got the money.
  14. bonds would have put up a .950 ops at 46 if they let him
  15. yeah i'm willing to go all out meatball on this. soft as horsefeathers. doctors had cleared him to play and he opted not to. i thought this at the time, but considering all the horsefeathers that happened after that, i'm thinking that he knew his body was a mess and it was more than just coming back from a torn acl
  16. if he knew he was breaking down, why would he hurry to come back and play for a coach who was running players into the ground?
  17. with all the baggage that can come with pro athletes, it's hard for me to criticize a guy too much for being "soft" after suffering numerous serious injuries
  18. rose sucks but i'm not going to blame him for quitting or whatever. the amount of injuries he's had is insane, to the point where there are problem legitimate quality of life concerns. it's easy to say he should have just walked away earlier if he's checked out, but that's probably a pretty hard thing to give up on. he was just at the top of the field like 5 years ago, he does suck though
  19. the stamkos/kucherov line is insane
  20. haha i just remembered that the dodgers got to within 1 win of a world series and came away with nothing
  21. Yeah, I'm thinking for one of those two, it'd take two of Happ/Almora/Schwarber and prospects (or just Russell plus some prospects?). The alternative would be the Happ-for-closer type trade that was being discussed here a few days ago, and then one of the other two for a mid/back of the rotation controllable starter (ideally a younger pitcher with upside). I'd go for Schwarber and Russell instead of Happ or Almora. Schwarber needs to be in the AL because he was born to DH. Russell can be replaced by moving Baez to SS with Happ/Zobrist playing 2B & LF. Almora has shown me enough to be a solid CF and Happ has the power, speed, and versatility to be a valuable member of the team for the next decade. weird
