  1. this guy has some fame in diamond dynasty
  2. it's funny how he does the gary thorne part in english
  3. gleyber still has the homers pumping his numbers up, but he's been awful for a while
  4. If you sign Harper (or Machado), you can trade some combination of cost controlled cheaper position players (Almora, Bote, Happ, Russell, etc.) for pitching. The pitching free agency market is both expensive and injury prone so I think you're better off spending your funds on the more safe position players and trying to acquire cheaper pitching. yeah, i didn't mean free agency pitching. the optimal plan would be sign harper/machado and then use some of almora/scwharber/happ/russell for a good starter. i just don't like the plan mentioned above of keeping the current rotation (with hamels). hendricks/darvish/lester/q are pretty much locked in. getting a starter shouldn't conflict with getting harper, i just think it's the #1 priority, even if it means eating money on heyward/chatwood or taking on another bad contract.
  5. lol there he is I'm sorry that you keep making dumb statements that are easily refutable. your post doesn't even make sense. they've gotten a combined 2.4 fwar out of their best position player and best starting pitcher, but that hasn't affected them? and yeah, with the state of the rotation, i'm comfortable saying this is a pretty mediocre team with all darvish/bryant/morrow out. we were projected for like 93 wins before the season and those guys were projected for 10+. whenever the cubs lose you get off on people complaining, even though there's more than enough to complain about right now. i'm not getting caught up in it this time.
  6. without bryant and darvish, they're just a pretty mediocre team.
  7. the reality is that he's not terrible relative to other managers, he's just disappointingly close to them. i don't want him gone or anything, he just annoys me way more often than i thought he would.
  8. i want harper and everything, but i think the rotation has to be the priority. i'm not cool with starting 2019 with the current rotation at all.
  9. this season has had so many classic regular season games
  10. the rockies pbp guy is so awful that i could barely enjoy the dodgers blowing that game so spectacularly
  11. now THIS is how you optimism
  12. actually the rotation is good

  14. how many wins does the team we're currently fielding (meaning no darvish, bryant, or morrow) win in a full season? Like 85?
  15. willson and ross picking guys off first is one of the small pleasures that i will always remember from this cubs era
  16. it's spelled goatse, look it up
  17. i don't wear hats but i want that cubs player weekend hat
  18. he's a 25 year old non-prospect with 78 major league plate appearances, and there are posts about him moving bryant off third, wondering why everyone missed on him, calling him the next star, etc. i'm not saying he sucks or that he doesn't have value to the cubs. hopefully he can be a late bloomer and it's possible that he ends up as a derosa/zobrist type, it's just funny to see everyone losing their horsefeathers over him, when this is the type of place that should know not to get excited over a tiny sample size of plate appearances. It's hard to fake hitting the ball hard and he's doing that better than anyone since he's been up and he's playing solid defense and clearly looks like he has a solid idea and approach at the plate. Yes of course it's ridiculous to think he will ever move Bryant off third but he's shown enough that he's probably one of the better 8 starting options on a given day with where the roster is at now. He's better than Tommy and better than Almora vs RHP and probably Happ vs LHP and at times a better option than Russell depending on the defense you want to run out. did you see this post? baseball is littered with guys who do this and then end up turning back into nothing. i'm just wondering why a lot of people have already made the leap from "this guy is providing lots of value to use right now, and it's really helpful" to "this guy is a significant piece going forward" but really the post was half joking in the first place, which is why i literally used the term doom boner at the start of it. it was an extremely noninflammatory post, so of course it got someone fired up.
  19. http://gif-finder.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Will-Ferrell-Thats-dumb.gif WTF are you going on about??? Bote is already something and big league scouts and teams have already noticed him. Teams wanted to acquire him at the trade deadline and were asking the Cubs about him. he's a 25 year old non-prospect with 78 major league plate appearances, and there are posts about him moving bryant off third, wondering why everyone missed on him, calling him the next star, etc. i'm not saying he sucks or that he doesn't have value to the cubs. hopefully he can be a late bloomer and it's possible that he ends up as a derosa/zobrist type, it's just funny to see everyone losing their horsefeathers over him, when this is the type of place that should know not to get excited over a tiny sample size of plate appearances.
