  1. in nsb game threads, the new doom boner is hoping they lose so you can tell everyone how much it doesn't bother you Nope, it’s acting like this team is terrible and has no chance of doing anything this year after a five game losing streak. Less than a weeks ago we had won 17 of 25, had won 7 of 8 series and had the best record in the NL. And don’t try and say this is just heat of the game thread moment because you and others do this all the time. I’m not going to lie, the losses bother me a hell of a lot less than they did pre-WS. But they still bother me. Some more than others. So go ahead and bitch about losses. It’s fine. I’ve complained about losses this year. But there’s a huge difference between “this loss hurts, never should have happened, team blew it, team sucked today” and “omg, this team is horrible, definitely not making the playoffs, collapse potential, etc.” It’s definitley possible this team doesn’t make the playoffs and I suppose it’s possible that they collapse and win 76 games. But they’ve got a three year track record of being really good, are still on pace for upper 80’s in wins and are 2 1/2 games out of first and currently lead in the wild card. Fangraphs has them 87% to make the playoffs, BP is 76% and 538 is 78%. I get it, you wanted us to be like the Astros. That would be awesome. But there are other options besides “Astros good” and “total crap”. saying there is collapse potential is not the same as the other 2 things you grouped it with. the rotation's problems are concerning enough that a collapse to .500 or whatever and missing the playoffs is not the far-fetched idea that it's constantly treated as. there is plenty of reason to be scared as horsefeathers of the rotation and what it would mean organizationally if they don't turn it around. it's at the point where people complaining about the cubs are automatically assumed to be saying the cubs are on their way to the bottom, when really it's the opposite side that is constantly pretending to know where the cubs are headed. any sort of negativity is immediately met with 1 of like 3-4 posters saying some variation of "who cares, they won x amount of games the last 4 years, so that is obviously going to continue" and then the other 2-3 people immediately liking the post.
  2. The doom boners on this board are fully erect right now. in nsb game threads, the new doom boner is hoping they lose so you can tell everyone how much it doesn't bother you

  4. somebody tell bryce he isn't on the cubs yet
  5. which one is the flowbro?
  6. We had the best record in the NL before this series. There was nothing that needed to be kicked on. This series sucks and is embarrassing but the comparisons to last year's team don't really hold. last year we had eloy and cease to fix a hole. this year we have nothing to get anybody with, and are just counting on bad players getting better. this team is better than the 2017 cubs were at this time, but they are also in a much more perilous position.
  7. unfortunately, you're making a lot of sense. it feels like they've been getting the least out of their talent for a while. Yeah, the 97-win average of the past three years, the 92-win pace this year, the two consecutive division titles, the 3 straight NLCS appearances, and the World Series championship really make me feel this way too. oh god, get the horsefeathers over yourself man
  8. Feel like this is an extension of your RD theory, but not really sure. Which is clearly insane, soooooooo.... unfortunately, you're making a lot of sense. it feels like they've been getting the least out of their talent for a while.
  9. quintana is such a horsefeathering disappointment
  10. chatwood's baby is going to walk right out of the womb
  11. When is the last time you heard opposing announcers talk about how fun it is to watch another team? And when their own team was in the World Series the previous year? i mean, i'm sure the cubs are generally known around the league as a fun team to watch because of all the fun players they have. that doesn't mean the games themselves this season haven't been boring an unusual amount of the time. i don't see why this needs to be an argument. people calling the 2018 cubs season boring shouldn't bother you.
  12. I find myself viscerally agreeing with 17 Seconds, but if I take a breath my brain can explain to me that it's just this extended limp dick stretch on offense. 2 runs against Harvey, all the shut outs, the occasional majestic Schwarber dong being our only sustenance. It's very frustrating watching so many good hitters hit like Jason Heyward used to hit. I know it will end, it just doesn't feel like it will ever end. Yeah, the offensive struggles are frustrating. But you're right; they won't continue. And the good thing is that they aren't always boring when the bats go cold because they play amazing defense and have good starting pitching and a good bullpen. The bats struggled the whole Dodgers series, and the opposing announcers still went viral talking about how fun it is to watch us play baseball. The whining about them being boring is nonsense. "actually the cubs are not boring in the slightest, and now i'm going to prove it by citing people i always go to for baseball insight: announcers"
  13. i made a post saying the cubs are boring after they played another boring ass game, get over it jarvis
  14. speaking of vrd (and in the spirit of making duke mad), the brewers are up to +58 as of this moment.
  15. okay i'm not going to get into an argument about the cubs being good (i said is that they're boring, and they are boring a lot), but those teams are projected by fangraphs to win like 10 more games than the cubs right now. you can't just play the sequencing thing ahead of time like that. The AL sucks, so there’s more horsefeathers teams to beat on but yeah they’re all going to end up roughly where we do in the mid-high 90s. oh
  16. Two days ago, they won on a walk-off. Yesterday they made like 5 highlight reel plays on defense and had the Dodgers announcers drooling on air, thinking about how fun they are to watch. the cubs are boring a lot. we talk about this a lot when they're being boring. stop being so defensive about it, damn
  17. i don't know, probably because we have plenty enough talent to do what ny/bos/hou is doing, so our steady 90-95 win pace and see-saw battle with the brewers feels pretty lifeless but yeah, this team is boring as a horsefeathers a lot. definitely more than they should be. it's okay to say that. The sequencing may be annoying but I’d bet all 3 of those AL teams finish in the mid 90s range like we are on pace for. okay i'm not going to get into an argument about the cubs being good (i said is that they're boring, and they are boring a lot), but those teams are projected by fangraphs to win like 10 more games than the cubs right now. you can't just play the sequencing thing ahead of time like that.
  18. Why is it so hard to enjoy this franchise's best 4-year stretch in a century? i don't know, probably because we have plenty enough talent to do what ny/bos/hou is doing, so our steady 90-95 win pace and see-saw battle with the brewers feels pretty lifeless but yeah, this team is boring as a horsefeathers a lot. definitely more than they should be. it's okay to say that.
