  1. It's freaking cold out tonight. Yeah, I figured. I just thought that a manager or coach was pinch running or something. That would be strange. have you never seen a pitcher wear a jacket before? Have you never seen John Olreud play before?
  2. Raise your hand if you LOVE that Geovany Soto is batting behind Mr Edmonds tonight.
  3. '69? What about '89? The Cubs and Mets rivalry was really second only to the Cubs/Cards rivalry on the north side from the 60's until '93. I was three
  4. It certainly made Ryan Harvey something special. HAHA well I wouldn't come up through the Cubs system, duh
  5. Given that I'm fast (4.6 40), have good leaping ability (5'11" and can hang on a regulation-sized rim) and have absolutely no upper body strength, hitting the ball 500 ft would make me a badass CF.
  6. Anyone else bothered by the Canadian spelling? Yes, I know it's from Toronto but it bugs me a little.
  7. I wasn't alive in 1969. I hate the Yankees much, much more
  8. Well put. Hendry seems to be a decent guy for whom the lightbulb is now finally going on. Edmonds Yes, this
  9. San Diego is giving up too much. Cleveland too little. I agree with the exact opposite of this. So, you feel San Diego is giving up too little? They are giving up what is probably the best player in the deal and getting back guys with the upside of a #4 starter, a 4th OF, and a middle of the road SS. Then they throw in Giles, who sucks, but still has some value with his OBP. I'll rephrase. I think Cleveland is giving up quite a bit for Khalil Greene and roster filler. If I were San Diego and the trade was for Westbrook instead of our spare parts, I wouldn't hesitate to do it, bad outfield situation be damned. Westbrook may be Cleveland's fourth starter, but he isn't most teams'. No question the Cubs are giving up the least amount. We aren't giving up enough here to justify talking about Westbrook or Greene, regardless of the inclusion of a third team.

  11. I love my irons. I don't know what they are, but I hit my 4 iron significantly better than my driver. Yes, I am not good at golf.
  12. It's actually the only park in the central where the Cubs swept the entire season away series (2004?)
  13. This is awesome. cough*PM*cough
  14. Sorry for my ignorance, but are you saying something like "not you, Bruce," here? Or are you just asking his take? I think its "and you" Well I know what it means in French, I was just wondering what he meant by it It's parodying a famous line from Julius Caesar, "Et tu, Brute?", meaning "You too, Brutus?", just prior to being stabbed in the back by someone he considered a friend. I used it because Bruce mentioned Theriot was gritting his way into being good. And to try to be funny and stuff. Which apparently failed miserably, as people either didn't get the reference or thought I was serious. The original line was well played by bukie. Clever, too. My faith in stats is unshakable. But I also believe guys like Theriot, if they recognize things about their game that need improving and work to improve them, can do so and defy the projections. It's a fun discussion. People who dismiss the stats say it's a "human" game. Of course it is. And the stats measure and project what real humans do. I've talked to Ryan a lot about this stuff, starting in spring training. He recognizes that he and I need to be talking about a high OBP and OPS in September for him to have achieved what he set out to achieve. Very cool. And what do you think about him getting consistent playing time over Cedeno?

FWIW the latin meaning is slightly different from the French which confused me further still.
  16. Grey Goose may not be the best example to use in this instance, because "ultra premium" vodkas such as Goose don't really taste all that different than "premium" vodkas that have been filtered fewer times such as Skol. Pedro is more like super rare The MaCallan 60 yr compared to everyone else's Glenfiddich 12 yer. Maybe he's not a scotch guy
  17. I've never heard of a good character guy playing for Calipari. I'll believe it when I see it.

  20. This is surely a joke
  21. Must have been staring at Sean Marshall's wife
  22. Here are his stats at AAA Iowa: 12 IP, 1.50 ERA, 11 K/4 BB, .150 BAA. That's over 3 games started. His next start will be on Thursday. So glad he's allowed to contribute somewhere  How is he only going 4 IP per start and still putting up great numbers?
