  1. If Alex Gonzalez is wrong, I don't want to be right
  2. As Americans, we have a culture of "it'll NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN." It's in every facet of society, from the workplace to the classroom to sports and everywhere else. It's the main reason zero tolerance policies take effect and you hear about the occasional first grader who faces expulsion for bringing a plastic butter knife to school in his lunch bag. After the "atrocity" of the tie game a few years back, Selig and the owners banded together and said "IT'LL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN, DAMMIT!" and came up with this rule where Adrian Gonzalez could homer off of George Sherrill and it would win the game and determine where two completely different teams play the World Series. Brilliance, Bud! Sheer brilliance! I think you're sort of right. There is no doubt that the outcome of The Tie is the reason that they're doing this. But I think this move was more to increase the popularity of the ASG, and maybe even win back those it lost after Miller Park (like EVERYONE who followed the Brewers during Selig's ownership), rather than ensure the game gets played to completion. The ASG hadn't mattered for years and years and this was a way to have it directly an impact the baseball season. Making sure the game gets completed is as simple as not calling it until it's done.
  3. Oh snap IMB just dropped some knowledge on our asses
  4. Earlier this summer on MJH, Plesac claimed that Marquis had the best stuff on our staff. Mac about had a coronary and I haven't listened to him since
  5. I like how you combined "practical" and "testicle." And to be honest, I wouldn't put it past Dempster to do the same.
  6. I loved Prior's  Kevin Brown's was really interesting, too Lincecum beats all Hate the submariners: B-K Kim and especially Bradford
  7. Which was exactly my point. We aren't out of the woods yet because LR may still see a problem that needs fixing. I do not, I thought I made that clear.
  8. I can't believe I'm adding more to this thread, but there's a camp that maintains that Hamilton had a support group in Cincy that put him on the right track. Had he stayed in Tampa Bay, or drafted by the Cubs who had no intention of picking him because he was too much of a gamble and not good value at the time , he may have never cleaned himself up.
  9. This. Even given the slight chance that this has anything to do with mental makeup, many on the board seem sure that his mechanics could go again at any time. Ankiel-like playoff collapses are the exception, not the rule. If the guy gets it together, he's going to keep it together as long as he stays with what's working and completely ignores Rothschild. On a related note, does anyone know if Hill's new mechanics feature a quicker move to the plate? If not, we may not be out of the woods yet.
  10. Yup, so the NL has the advantage the first 3 innings. I'm just worried about a close game in the 8th inning having to deal with Ryan Ludwick and Nate McClouth hitting. Good point but I have to think Jeter will be allowed to suck for at least four, possibly five innings
  11. When has she ever dressed slutty? (pics please)
  12. Word. VORP is nice, but can be off-putting at times.
  13. Not even close. At this point, the city of Milwaukee has been rallying (I'm serious) to get Brewer fans to the Cubs games to keep us out. I've gone to Cubs games there each of the last four years and last year there was a significant increase in Brewer fans (it was NEVER close to 50/50) and the atmosphere is more militant. Now it seems that they care more about keeping us out/seeing us lose than we care to get there. Reminds me of another one-sided rivalry involving the Cubs... Oh, and most importantly, Milwaukee is really good at home and are starting to sell out more games now that Sabathia is in town. Those games aren't gonna be easy but they're gonna be a helluva lot of fun
  14. Formula's are well and good, as are explanations of what the stats mean, but what's the reasoning behind that formula? To objectively judge a player's offensive production independent of team stats.
  15. The NL lineup is so much better than the AL's it's kind of ridiculous. My favorite is the middle infield comparison. Gotta love the idiots who thought Jeter and Pedroia would be the best guys to start opposite Hanley and Utley. Awesome.
  16. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equivalent_average
  17. Or had absolutely no control over whether they kept them or not
  18. Plus look at the pitching staff with Lincecum at the number two spot and Markakis patrolling CF!
  19. Meh k's are nice but leading the league in them indicates low pitch efficiency. I'm much happier that we're cutting down on our walks allowed than that we're striking guys out at a league-leading pace.
  20. Refer to Raw's post about IsoP. Greene's OBP sucks because his AVG sucks and his AVG sucks because he's a flyball hitter in Petco. He's had some good and bad years in terms of IsoD. The case can be made that Greene should be a better hitter for another team. The case can also be made that he is what he is, a guy who will hit for above average power but struggle to keep his OBP above .320. Ok, now I think we're on the same page. I'm not sure I want him as anything more than a backup. Might be better off with Cedeno if that's the case
  21. You shut your mouth with your logic and level-headedness. The sky is obviously falling.
  22. Sweet!!! Kruk, Morgan, and Berman agree with me. I picked him too. I feel for you
  23. Chase Utley is awesome. On a more negative note, has there ever been a worse broadcasting team than the one ESPN is trotting out tonight?
