  1. Yeah, the "Lou is an idiot" thread may actually be quiet after this game
  2. That doesn't mean he wasn't really smart. Couldn't he have really good command, movement, AND be a very smart pitcher? I don't see why not. I don't think he's denying Maddux's intelligence, he's just stating, correctly, that oftentimes, Maddux's stuff is overlooked. All his intelligence, sans good stuff, wouldn't have gotten Maddux to several Cy Youngs, 300+ wins, & the Hall of Fame
  3. So you're relatively confident he would walk, even in this depressed market? I mean, I guess him accepting arb wouldn't exactly be the worst thing in the world...
  4. Huh...the Cubs HAVE been very active in the Pacific Rim.. :-k
  5. Oh god we're reacquiring Jason Marquis, aren't we? Did you miss the "make his followers very happy" part?
  6. Plenty of us here deserve derision for thinking/saying that
  7. DLee + Rammy = we still have a chance
  8. Put your bat on your shoulder Koyie
  9. I don't mind that. He could be like Chip and think a popup is bound for Waveland. The thing that bothered me the most about Chip was that every time the opponent led off with a hit it was automatically an "inauspicious start." Harry Carey was notorious for that as well. His first year or two he tried way too hard to be like Harry. Once he settled into a groove, he was actually quite tolerable. Chip and Steve were just a hair below Harry and Steve. Joe Carter was a sin against baseball, though. Good gravy. Yeah, the Joe Carter signing might've been worse than the Jeff Blauser signing...
  10. Wow...Milton actually got good wood on that.. Good job
  11. Now for the anti-climatic Milton AB
  12. This game got boring... I also thought this could be one of those 10-8 games, but then I remembered that would be severely over-estimating the Cubs' ability to score runs
  13. Come on Randy...get through this inning
  14. Yep, especially the break on that last K to Bell (I think that's who it was). I think that was his slider, but that very last pitch defied physics. I'm not typically the maudlin type, but remembering that game makes me more sad than anything. KW's injuries...damn, what could've been
  15. why? I happen to think it was better. 20k games have been done 4 times by 3 pitchers, perfect games 18 times. Also the only hit in Woods game was a slow hit grounder just out of the reach of the SS. That bit of bad luck (where the ball was hit) was the only thing separating his game from a no hitter (or perfect game. I can't remember if he walked anyone) No walks, and it is pretty clear to me that Kerry's performance was far more dominant. It took a ridiculous play just to save the shutout yesterday, whereas hardly anyone could even put the ball in play vs Kerry. Having said that, pitching a no hitter and a perfect game in your career is damn impressive. Props to Mark, but I still think Kerry's game was better. The 20 K game was the single most dominating single-game pitching performance in the history of baseball. ^^I fully endorse this POV^^
  16. Koyie hit the crap outta that one
  17. Depends on what you mean by "better" You really could make a case for either. 21 men put the ball in play against Buehrle yesterday. 7 did against Kerry. That's exactly what I was driving at. Which one "pitched better"? I'd say Kerry...others will go for the perfect game 'cuz it's hard to argue w/ so-called perfection
  18. Depends on what you mean by "better" More impressive achievement is how they were discussing. But I can't think of a definition that would make me think Kerry pitched a better game that day than Buehrle did yesterday I'd disagree with that... Like someone else has already said, Kerry's game was definitely more dominant. I can see why someone would always opt for the anomaly of a perfect game though (and by that I mean a perfect game is a team achievement since it requires 0 errors)
  19. Depends on what you mean by "better"
  20. God I missed Rammy when he was gone. [worthless cliche] He is such a professional hitter[end of cliche]
  21. Cubs win!! Yeah Bob, the Phillies staff was stellar the first 2 games...that totally explains the Cubs inability to score runs
