  1. lol PCA has the 8th highest SB total for a Cub this century. Juan Pierre, Eric Young x2, Hoerner last year, Patterson, Campana, Theriot.
  2. Yep, and from someone who probably adds more value outside of his slash line than any other offensive player in baseball.
  3. In one of those 'you can't predict baseball' things, the Cubs 41 runs in a 3 game stretch is the most in baseball this year. Taking the lead from a similar offensive juggernaut, the Oakland As.
  4. Yeah it might be. In the situation where we're still 'going for it' in 5 days, I don't think you let him take the ball. Kilian and Wicks are starters, you're doing them a disservice taking them out of their routine and making them go through a truncated warm up to enter into a dirty inning. If we're out of it....at this point I'd still probably vote for bringing them both up, cutting Hendricks, and going 6 man rotation the rest of the year. We've done right by Hendricks in getting him to his 10 years (and he had that one solid stretch mid-season). He's not going to get to 100 wins this year. Free up the roster spot and keep the lines of communication open going into the offseason. Spring training try out, some sort of coaching role, etc.
  5. Giving a hat tip to your 'the season is effectively over' post from earlier today for jinxing this one into existence.
  6. Obviously a lot can happen between now and Tuesday or whatever, but when the earlier discussion about whether this was his last season was going on, I was thinking about something like winning the next 4 games before his next turn, and whether this was his last game. By then you'll have Kilian and Wicks as options and the extra September spots. You could bring up one and put Hendricks back in mop up mode. Or you could get real aggressive and bring up both and cut Kyle.
  7. Happ please remember you're in Pittsburgh and take a little edge off here.
  8. this has to be the most RBIs we've gotten out of our 9 hitter ever right?
  9. Oh there's the low strike that wasn't called for Hendricks like 5 times in the first
  10. Watching on my phone and obviously the default is to not make an out on the base paths if your run doesn't matter, but given the success we've had stealing bases Belli getting to third with a PR ready to go might have been nice.
  11. We're long past the point of moral victories meaning anything, but good for these guys.
  12. Bethancourt has produced 0.5 fWAR in 444 PAs dating back to last year. It's not a black hole, but I'd also be fine with him down in Iowa mentoring Ballesteros if we find a better option.
  13. I believe he's gotten at least one hit in every start except one for the Cubs, which, given what we're used to, is certainly a pleasant/positive surprise. Also 4 for 5(!!) in throwing runners out. He's probably still Bad (the anti-Paredes, if I may), but definitely fun so far.
  14. Yeah fair, that was me not wanting to add another quote to that. He's had one below average offensive month in his last 11 (this one). Leaning on batting average for a guy who consistently runs a double digit walk rate (with a K rate under 20%) is showing your bias. There are better ways to evaluate these guys.
  15. And to be clear, I hate slicing and dicing the data like this. We have whole seasons and YTD stats to rely on. But if you're going to go month and month and somehow that barely even holds up, you should get called out on it. Just say you never watched him play before he came to the Cubs and your thing is to complain about Cubs players when they play bad and we can all move on.
  16. That's how the new rules are written, unfortunately.
  17. Yes. 2.5 fWAR, 116 wRC 0.5 fWAR, 89 wRC since May 28, so...no, probably not. Double digit walk rate and a .180 BABIP would suggest signs for a turnaround, but actual production wise, no. In 111 games he put up a 2.4 fWAR. Obviously we'll gloss over 2023, because it's just the most recent full years worth of data, how important could that be 'well' was 10th best hitter in baseball, 11th best overall player in baseball. Just decent, I guess. Above average hitter in June and July, terrible August.
  18. I don't really know what your definition of 'average' is, and when you say 'few' that's also confusing because in June and July he was an above average hitter (106 wRC and 102 wRC).
  19. Don't strawman this. This isn't the Isaac Paredes Appreciation thread. You wanted him benched for an injured guy and a second baseman with a combined 150 PAs above AA. Everyone disagreed with you and told you it was a bad idea. He's struggling. He's still our best option going forward.
  20. On one hand, yes. On the other hand, PCA is definitely doing a star turn.
