  1. Oh no we only have four hitters in the *checks notes* top 45 hitters in baseball (wRC), currently, and then we are forced to supplement that with *checks again* a 125 (Bote), a 105 (Heyward), and a 104 (Schwarber) hitter. That leaves one whole spot in the lineup! For a Russell (97) or Almora (84), who derive most of their value from defense!
  2. Please point me to all the excellent 24th and 25th men on other rosters. I think it’s fair to say the inconsistency overall is a problem. Please point me to all the teams that play 'consistently' well.
  3. Please point me to all the excellent 24th and 25th men on other rosters.
  4. The one currently leading baseball in bullpen WAR? Ummmm....what?
  5. It is definitely a symptom of entitled fandom where I want zero Cubs making the all star game this year.
  6. 3.98 FIP, 3.84 xFIP, 9.3 K/9, 2.8 BB/9 over his last 6 starts. Yes, even that is not what we signed him for, but I've definitely backed off the whole 'Darvish is broken' bandwagon.
  7. Eh, neither of them are any good, so I'm not going to get too worked up over it. Given that Almora's biggest defensive strength is his reads/routes, not his speed, I'm fine with CarGo's experience in that outfield, especially because he isn't totally terrible defensively (though definitely moving in that direction). Another start for Caratini, though with Darvish on the mound this is more where you expect him. He obviously isn't going to keep up a 1065 OPS, but if he keeps hitting the ball well I wonder if they play around with Contreras in the outfield for a game or two just in case we need it at some point. I also wonder if ultimately our best alignment has KB in RF, some depressing Almora/Heyward platoon in center, and then Bote and Russell both in the infield.
  8. Good for him. Great story for a dude who seems to be really liked among the players and media. Apropos of nothing, here's a picture of Bryan Lahair.
  9. Yeah how do you screw up the Nicest day of the year
  10. it's not great but it's not a rally, campaign/donor people have a suite at the game. Yeah I think the person asking the question used 'rally', but you're right.
  11. Someone tried to ask Kimbrel about the Trump rally at Wrigley and Theo shut it down pretty quickly, said he could make himself available after for whatever other questions.
  12. pretty good bet that it's about Willson having the 2nd most games played and PA among catchers after going it alone for a month. Summer is on the horizon and he could use some rest. Yep...pretty decent chance he has to do the All Star weekend, so pump the breaks a little bit during this stretch of games.
  13. Leadoff Rizz! Rizz KB (3B) CarGo (LF) Javy Heyward (RF) Vic Bote Almora Hamels
  14. so, wasn't kimbrel just doing demos for interested teams? Is he really just getting off the couch now? Seems odd to me that he would need that much time to get ready. I don't think there's a lot of upside in communicating some super aggressive timeline. Going to need at least a few games in the minors just to get used to the mental aspect of that, with time off in between. Think three weeks is on the high end.
  15. Have you ever known anyone to like Ted Nugent’s music? Confession: The Blackhawks, if not currently at least through their Cup run, took the ice to this song, and I absolutely loved it back before I knew who Ted Nugent was.
  16. With CarGo in the mix as an outfielder, it gives them even less reason to play him (or Russell). Bote should be playing second a majority of the time, give Russell the rest of the ABs.
  17. Who wants to see a video featuring Cub prospect legend Hak Ju Lee and Cubs legend Eddie Butler putting his own spin on Ted Lilly's best moment as a Cub? https://streamable.com/v7efu
  18. Yeah...weird flip there. If you ignored the last month, you could kinda see how they weren't fans of Willson's framing, and thought they needed someone with better framing skills to catch Hendricks. But given the month the Kyle has just had, doesn't really make a lot of sense to switch up how things were going. Maybe Contreras was just dealing with something last night.
  19. It all comes down to the contract for me if we commit multiple years I won’t like it Then you won't like it.
  20. Pretty much everybody? Yeah, he's definitely not some savior, especially getting started this late in the year. But it's not like you're locking him into a spot in the lineup, so if he sucks, whatever. We have plenty of experience in dealing with bad pitching signings. Plus, the Cubs signing him means the Brewers and the Cardinals didn't.
  21. Locked in Kyle is so fun to watch. He can dial up that back door sinker on the black seemingly at will right now, and he’s doing it at 90 MPH.
  22. Hasn’t Joe said in the past that the time to give a player rest is after a nice game so the player can rest on a positive? Possibly. But you’d think Contreras would be a little different considering he’s had a scheduled day off every five days for at least the last six weeks or so.
