  1. Agree with most of this but marte had a wRC 40 points higher than caroll last year against lefties. That specific decision was probably sound even if it didn’t work out.
  2. The FG article I found is from 2017, so grain of salt, but it aggregated the prior 20 years and said playoff teams went from averaging 4.94 runs per game in the regular season to 4.17 runs per game in the playoffs, so a drop off against premium pitching is basically built in already.
  3. Imanaga shut down the dodgers, clearly they’ve got some work to do if they want to consider themselves a playoff team.
  4. Jesus it’s a 7 game sample size where you admitted we went up against 3 aces. How many aces do you think there are that going against them 42% of the time is a normal distribution.
  5. It's weird watching the team statistics bounce around and slowly start to normalize out. Per pythag W/L, Cubs have been a game lucky so far this year, still at a .562 clip. But FG has our offense at 17th overall and our pitching at 13th, which is weird because I would have told the narrative as the offense carrying shaky pitching thus far.
  6. Do you give Busch the start tonight against the lefty? Has gotten all of 6 PAs against them this year (0/6, 2 Ks).
  7. Yeah of course the only non-competitive game of this west coast swing so far has been the weird early start one against the Padres. Pretty excited to only have one more of these (and, honestly, wouldn't be the worst thing to my short term health if either team decided to put up an 8 spot in the first and put it out of reach).
  8. To clarify, it’s our first regular season extra innings win since 1992
  9. Man, did not feel good about stealing that one. Lot of big moments from the support squad.
  10. For the next two weeks tauchman and cooper are basically de facto starters. Morel gets benched after the 6th inning. Plenty of room.
  11. This is all so dumb. Can we just skip to the part where PCA, Shaw, and Caissie take the jobs currently held by madrigal, mastro, and cooper
  12. Yeah love the spark and not giving up but also kinda feel like that was our last real shot at winning this game. Counsell isn’t going to stretch the pen here.
  13. Yeah that was the first place I looked, but also to be fair, his BABIP last year was 36 points above his career number, so don't think that should be the baseline. Obviously he's not .560 OPS bad, but he certainly isn't getting meaningful unlucky by any stretch.
  14. Bored, putting off work, etc. D Lee/Aramis spent the entirety of 2004-2009 at the Cubs corner infield combo. Lee was traded late in 2010. For my own laziness, just going to look at the complete years. In that 6 year stretch, Lee put up 21.4 fWAR and Aramis put up 21.6 fWAR. 43 fWAR total. KB and Rizzo were the combo from 2015 (technically like 2 weeks into 2015 with the service time crap but we're counting it) through 2020 (covid), so basically 5.5 years. In that time, KB put up 27.9 fWAR and Rizzo put up 22.4 fWAR, 50.3 fWAR total. Really goes to show how elite KB was for a few years there. Here's to hoping Busch/Shaw can join them.
  15. Morel at third to let Mike tauchman DH is a choice
  16. (old man yells at dystopian cloud) So I pay Youtube for their live TV service, which doesn't include the local baseball team's games for...reasons. So I pay Marquee another $20 a month for a different app that isn't available in the Samsung operating system so I have to screen mirror from my phone because that seems like a better option than plugging in a Roku and having to re-enter all my passwords for all 8 apps I'm either paying for or mooching off someone else. All to, in theory, watch the baseball games of the baseball team I am paying, separately, for the privilege of watching. And here we are, on a Friday night, leaving me in my situation, paying for live cable tv and also paying the baseball team directly, unable to watch said baseball team with jumping through yet another series of hoops. (yelling at cloud over)
  17. I just like the concept that there's any team in baseball that has some stud relief pitcher in AAA as like, the 11th guy on the bullpen depth chart. Like what are we expecting here
  18. Yep, from Sports Illustrated....pretty bleak!
  19. Might be parsing that last sentence wrong, but the majors basically exist outside of the PGA/LIV split, and pretty much every big name in golf, regardless of what tour they are affiliated with, is playing this weekend.
