  1. After hearing the complaints about their incredibly inconsistent offense, the cubs have scored the same amount of runs in back to back games three times in a row to open spring training
  2. A. You should want the city to say no B. If the city says yes to the Sox and Bears, that sucks for the city, but you should still want the city to say no. Tom Ricketts doesn't need a handout
  3. This is from the FG scouting report back in late July:
  4. Alternatively, give Miguel Amaya 100+ games and do whatever you can to try to keep catching open for Ballesteros.
  5. Well at least you can't complain about inconsistency anymore! (kidding)
  6. Bailey a little bad news/good news for you. Bad news, all your dreams of pitching at Wrigley for a contending Cubs team are dead and we're sending you to probably the second most depression organization in baseball. Good news is that you are now a major league closer.
  7. Morel would be a little worse based on performance to date, but I'll admit that I thought that the gap would be wider, hadn't realized how bad Wisdom has been in the last two years and looking at the game logs it seems like they kinda lost faith in him playing there down the stretch last year. I think he's still here because Madrigal is made of glass, Wisdom has options/team control, and Morel/Busch haven't done enough to prove they are capable of handling the position for an extended period of time if needed without making Steele stab them in their sleep. And I guess because he's been the worst kind of above average hitter and led the team in ISO last year. But his leash is probably pretty short.
  8. I mean, it's like 9 batters in February. Your opinion shouldn't change too much here from where it was yesterday.
  9. On a short term deal I don't think you can get Chapman without either going over or getting way too close to that 2nd tier of luxury tax ($257m), which is probably the actual hard line this year.
  10. Yeah on the second part, on one hand I totally see Wisdom as the easy DFA candidate to clear up the spot for Belli. On the other, it's hard for me to imagine that 2 weeks of spring training was enough for them to leave a roster that has Madirgal/Morel/Busch as your third base options. Not that Wisdom is elite or even maybe average at third, but it just seems to unlike the leadership and their commitment to defense to be left with those three at a really important position.
  11. We can just pretend the first base ABs are going to go to Belt and the third base ABs are going to Shaw. Or continue hoping against hope that Busch or Morel learns a new position in their late 20s.
  12. Going to guess he means 'the entirety of Morel's career', not 'two spring training games'.
  13. Think this is pretty accurate/helpful based on the roster as currently stands, and by accurate I mostly mean "I would come to mostly the same conclusions, if I wasn't allowed to tinker with the roster."
  14. Yeah but most of them could probably find more than $50m guaranteed over the life of their remaining contract.
  15. If Morel can play third, that makes wisdom the third string third baseman, even ignoring mastro and his ability to play anywhere, and probably a worse offensive option than cooper. if morel can’t play third, you kinda have to wonder what his job is in a world where his best skill (hitting LHP) is something cooper probably does better. but again, almost definitely overthinking.
  16. Kinda makes it seem like there’s no way they open the season with both morel and wisdom on the roster, and it’s kinda based on morel being a passable third baseman. But then again it’s a spring training NRI and I’m almost definitely overthinking it.
  17. lol this almost feels troll-y at this point does he have splits or something worth caring about?
  18. *whispers* Ben Brown and Alcantara for Cease
  19. Tough day for all the David Peralta fans of the world
  20. Lol 3/80. Unreal deal. Would have preferred Chapman a little but belli is pretty clearly a Fowler 2.0 situation. Maybe we can go a couple days without the endless complaining?
  21. Guessing you probably already considered this, but bleachers are GA and a lot of fun for bigger groups.
  22. Fairly sure the entire game is on Youtube and there are versions as chopped up as you want to be (5 minute version, 10 minute version, 30 minute version). It remains mind blowing to me that the entire World Series drought built up to a WS game 7 as incredible as that one. The watch along was on at the bar last night, so many good moments.
  23. This is the key point in all of this for me. I'm sure they have preferences, and have assigned some sort of ideal contract parameters for each of them. But if and until the market for one of them collapses, conventional wisdom says they're only getting one of them, and if we're truly splitting hairs in terms of value added to the team, might as well 'settle' for the one with the easiest contract to swallow.
  24. There is absolutely no guarantee he makes it nearly this far in the process
  25. Fair, but I think, to Bertz' point, technology and off season training regimens have come a long way very quickly. Hell, Boras could just rent a baseball field and a catcher for those four guys and they'd be able to get everything they would otherwise be getting in Arizona or Florida.
