  1. Most of this hinges on the expected time frame for Steele's recovery, but I think given that the next open start is Colorado (who sucks) at home, you let Wesneski take that one (and maybe let Smyly open to get through Blackmon/Jones/McMahon once). If he can't handle a Colorado lineup in April in Chicago (seeing a high of 41 and potentially snow on Wednesday), then you stretch Smyly out and give him a shot. While both of those guys get a shot, you're giving Brown a few starts in AAA to force his way up.
  2. The complete ease and omnipresence of gambling is the big issue for me. Without leaving my house, or even getting up from the couch, I could lose thousands of dollars by noon today. And then when the gambling account is empty, adding thousands more takes about 4 minutes, and either way I'm bombarded with promos and sign on bonuses and whatever else.
  3. Adbert* Alzolay* Alzolay was the 16th best relief pitcher in the league last year by fWAR Cubs, overall in 2023: 254/330/431 Cubs, RISP in 2023: 272/350/425
  4. I don't really know what this means. What team is equipped to replace their ace with anyone besides a 6th starter? There are 24 pitchers projected for over 3 wins. Five teams have more than one of them, including the Cubs. There's not a team in baseball that has an extra Justin Steele lying around to fill into the rotation.
  5. Garret Cooper does the worst thing you could do in that situation, drew smyly gives up a phantom run against 2-3-4 of the rangers lineup. Drew’s fault!
  6. Welp, manager blew the game with some bad decisions, what are you going to do
  7. No, yes, you’re also proving his point, not sure if you are meaning to or not
  8. That really should be a challengable play. Like, top of the list.
  9. You’re just ignoring the 3rd in NL last year thing aren’t you
  10. Going to get out ahead of it: No, we don’t want that guy anywhere near a cubs uniform
  11. We’re really doing in game interviews of the players in the regular season huh
  12. He makes such pure contact. I’m fine with him becoming speedy schwarber instead of javy
  13. There is maybe one overpaid player on this roster and even that is questionable. (it’s that we have 2 players amongst all our starting position players and rotation that are cost controlled and have given us a 2 WAR season in their career)
  14. The Angels starting off the year by being more on brand than anyone possibly could be, losing 8-1 in the 7th with the sole run coming off a solo Trout home run in the first.
  15. Seems like they did in the games that didn't matter. Now that they do...
  16. I'd skip the transfer part. Just extends the delay. I'd honestly push for people to start the next one as soon as possible after the end of the previous game (ideally the night before) just because the end of the game is when the most people tend to congregate, but not sure how that works with SEO, pinning topics, etc.
  17. Me, trying to plan the next four days out to maximize baseball and basketball watching while my wife is focused on easter baskets and egg hunts and what kind of food to make for the weekend:
  18. Yeah I think if we're being honest with ourselves, this is the issue. Someone gets busy for a couple days, goes on vacation, etc, and you end up in that weird middle ground where it's two hours before the game, there's no thread, no sign of the dude who's supposed to be doing it, no one wanting to step on any toes, etc. Doesn't seem like we're losing out on much by having the thread pre-made first thing in the AM and letting people do what they want in there after that. Having said that, happy to be proven wrong and have the old way work.
  19. I think the reason for lack of traction is assigning scheduled games was never how we did it around here, there would just be a list of posters and each one would be in charge until they started a losing game thread and then it moved on to the next one. Having said that, I got used to the auto threads coming up every morning and I'm sure it's preferrable in terms of metrics and whatever else, so my slightly begrudging vote is to just go with what we did last year (and keep the door open for the classic thread starter mode come October).
  20. Tell me more about the Netflix, Apple TV, and Hulu part, please
  21. Yeah it would be amazing to be able to slot in 2007 Daryle Ward at the end of the bench every year but ultimately I want the guys who can project to be future daily contributors to be getting as many PAs as possible, and we're pretty stocked up on guys at the Major League level that can and should play every day. Injuries will happen and I don't think someone like Mastro making the roster over Canario implies that Mastro would be the next man up to take over a starting role. For now, it's fine.
  22. Smith isn't on that list unless I'm going blind, but otherwise that's good info.
  23. I was under the impression that with guys like Cooper and Peralta (and possibly Smith), these NRI contracts come with a date that's either like, the end of spring training or May 1 or whatever, that lets them opt out. All of which to say I can't imagine they'd do a whole bunch of 40 man machinations to clear room for veterans who they didn't deem worthy to make the opening day roster and can also unilaterally opt out in the near future.
  24. I think Longhorn is a @Brock Beauchamp burner to in his second attempt to defeat Big Thread
