  1. However, since Rusch only gives up fly balls, maybe we should use 4 outfielders.
  2. Bah, it was a meaningless homerun as the Cubs already had the lead. Jacque = not clutch. Trade him for Dunn. A team with Jones, Dunn, and Arod as the heart of the order wouldn't win games because none of those guys hit when it counts. Can't be any worse then the Cubs as currently assembled. I'm not sure if you guys are being sarcastic when talking about whether Jones is clutch. I seem to remember about 2-3 games where a Jock hit was clutch... I'm totally being sarcastic. a) I don't believe in guys being able to "bear down more" in clutch situations like Brenly does. b) Jones has hit better with RISP than just about everybody else on the team. I think you'll find, with nearly any team, the player with the highest BA tends to have the highest BA with RISP. And its no coincidence. Except that's not true. A quick look at the NL central shows that only 2 out of 6 teams have the player with the highest batting average with the highest average with RISP (with a certain mininum of at bats to take pitchers and bench players out). I bet you could find that is probably true around the league. For example, Barrett is hitting .307 and Jones only .287 normally, but Jones is batting the best on the team with RISP-.288. Then comes Ramirez, Walker, Cedeno, and Neifi before you get to Barrett! Would you like to back up your statement? They talked about this in Behind the Numbers, but they defined clutch as more than BA with RISP, and they came to the conclusion that good hitters are clutch and bad hitters aren't.
  3. what did the first guy do? my audio froze.
  4. Although it is a lot better than a Dusty made lineup, I don't like Nevin batting third. Maybe switch Barrett and Nevin?
  5. How many chances does a guy get? One start does not a season make.
  6. He could get richer quicker with football, but he could potential earn more money with baseball. Also, didn't he almost quit football before the season last year to concentrate on baseball? So it seems he might enjoy playing baseball more than football.
  7. I seem to remember growing up that WGN would never show a Weds. Night Cubs game. When did this change? It seems like this year a lot of Weds. night games have been on TV so far this year.
  8. davearm did a lot better job explaining it, and in less words than I did.
  9. I think skateboarders or snowboarders i.e. Blum get in trouble is because there main source of revenue is from endorsements, which are not allowed by the NCAA. I'm not sure it is against the rules or not to work for a retail store or something like that. I know DIII athletes get off campus jobs and I think they have to abide by the same rules, although they aren't watched as closely. I think as long as you don't recieve money from the fame you gained from playing for the NCAA in that sport you are ok.
  10. I'm wondering the same thing. That's kinda nuts. But then so is the NCAA. The same way Tommy Z could get paid to fight last week. You can get paid to play a sport, and you won't lose your eligibility as long as it's a different sport and you don't make money off of your name, i.e. endorsements. But I agree. It makes no sense. Especially since Drew Tate couldn't except a car he won by getting a hole in one in a golf tournament. There is a whole lot a gray area in the NCAA. But there have been countless cases of guys playing minor league ball and then playing college football, i.e. Chris Wienke.
  11. I'm a big Walker fan, and I'm usually not very good at this. However, I think the Angels need a second baseman, and if my memory is correct, don't they have a lot of young position prospects? Since the AL West is at around .500 they are always in the race. Does anybody else think that might be a possiblity? I hate to get rid of Walker since he is incredibly cheap for his production, but if he gets us good value in return it would be worth it.
  12. What makes it even worse is it was at least 6 pages long before the game even started.
  13. There was an article on Page 2 about this about a week ago, from Jason Whitlock. Very disturbing. Edit: I believe it was Whitlock, but I'm not positive. I'll try to find it later, on my lunch break. Here is the article I was talking about. It was written by Bomani Jones, not Whitlock. My bad. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=jones/060602

  15. Unlike MLB, the NFL has actually done a very good job of policing themselves and taking a strong stand against performance enhancing substances. They have tough penalties and have done random testing for a long time. Additionally, they not only test for the drugs but for masking agents as well. The union and the owners both agree that performance enhancing substances have no place in the NFL and have worked together to try to keep them out of the league. This is totally different from MLB where the owners were more than willing to sweep this under the rug (until Congress got involved) and the union opposed drug testing. Because the NFL hasn't allowed the problem to get out of hand like MLB has, there's not nearly the amount of controversy surrounding the NFL. Didn't several members of the Carolina Panthers admit to using steroids a couple of years ago? I think Todd Sauerbrun (sp?) was one of them, and if a punter is juicing, who isn't? I could be making this up, but I'm pretty sure I remember hearing something like this a couple of years ago. It just makes no sense to me why football gets a free pass, while it's a witch hunt in baseball.
  16. on a semi related noted, how come you don't have the whitch hunt in football or other sports like baseball?
  17. At least, Barrett has had a good game at the plate.
  18. I think I heard he had a separated shoulder before, could have reaggravated if that's true. that's what Pat was saying
  19. Dude, Mabry needs to get his confidence back. He can do that against the rookie, Dude.
