  1. Who will be favored in the Missouri/Illinois game in Week 1 next year? I don't know much about what Mizzou returns.
  2. EDIT: Moved
  3. I haven't read much about this acquisition but I would be amazed if this guy sticks here.
  4. I just saw Fukudome outside Wrigley making snow angels.
  5. Anyone ever been to this before (assuming they've had it before)? I was given 2 tix to it for free by my neighbor and am wondering if it's worth taking off work to go to, any idea?
  6. If one of them knocked Theriot out of the lineup and the other would play CF so we could trade Pie, then yes we could use 2. But unfortunately, I don't think they can play SS. Too bad.
  7. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?name=winter_meetings Think we could work out a 3-way with the O's and Angels that ends up with Miguel in Anaheim and Roberts in chicago? Yes. Someone posted a deal earlier that made perfect sense. No. I'm not sure what I (or some of you guys) is missing here, but haven't Hendry and Lou made themselves perfectly clear that Theriot will, in about 99% likelihood, be our SS? I'm extremely confused here in trying to figure out what your comments have to do with what you quoted. #-o Yeah, it was a quick catch up read and I just assummed people were still trying to figure out a way to get both Tejada AND Roberts.

  9. I don't get the thinking that anything more than marginal upgrades is truly available. People can throw out names of upgrades, but if those players aren't truly available, it's just xbox nonsense. Besides Cabrera and Rodriguez, what significant upgrade names are/were truly out there to be had? And are/were they worth the handful of MLB talent prospects the club has (or do the Cubs even have what it takes)? My point is this: if Hendry can't acquire one of the handful of names that represent significant upgrades, then he is best served making marginal upgrades in several places. By adding Roberts and Fukudome, using DeRosa at 400+ ABs as a supersub, and giving the Catching duties to Soto, you've made upgrades in 4 places from the division winning team of last year and you've held onto your top young MLB-level talent in Hill, Marmol, and Pie. It's not grade A off season, but it's not a failure either if it happens this way. To me, Roberts and Fukudome would be a solid offseason (Grade B). You're right, what else is realistically out there to go acquire?
  10. Is this really that big a deal?
  11. It's 5:25 pm and warm where you are. Take advantage please...I wish we could.
  12. Well, Jim has step #1 down...asking too much.
  13. Just bumping this thread. A lot of rumors, not much actually happening.
  14. Marmol, Pie and a side dish (maybe Patterson, Gallagher, Colvin?)
  15. Is that better than Pie/Hill/? edit: Oh, they want a closer
  16. Good trade. Addition by subtraction. Let's clear out some more mediocrity now.
  17. If Hendry traded for Cabrera, would he tell him he needs to learn to hit LH?
  18. http://wintermeetings.mlblogs.com/nashvilleconfidential/2007/12/waiting_for_the.html Best news of the night. :D That's fine that they named him the staqrter and all because he's a guy we already have and is cheap for what should be slightly below average production. I guess I'm just wondering if you're happy we've decided on him or the assumption that he's going to have an awesome season?
  19. I wonder if they'll consider keeping him Jim, take a hint. "Teams are lining up for him."
  20. Shawn Green, Geoff Jenkins, and Luis Gonzalez. Whoever takes 2/12 first gets the honor of being the object of our hate all year. you'd think hendry would have learned by now that lefthanded rf does not equal good after the past few seasons. those guys are clones of the cubs' previous two rf experiments. I almost get the impression that Jim will trade for rather than sign an OF if he can't get Fukudome (since he is so intent on LH). At least that's what I'm getting from these reports.
  21. At this point I just really hope we sign Fukudome. I mean, what would be in store if we don't (some other LH hitting OF)?
  22. From today's Tribune: http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/whitesox/cs-071202citybits,1,2498734.story?coll=cs-home-headlines Gotta love these 2 beauties: Would Hendry accept a right-handed hitter in a trade? "Depends on the guy," he said. "In a perfect world, I think we're going to try to center on a left-handed bat in the outfield." Does that player have to be a power hitter? "Nah, not at all," Hendry said. "We [want] the best player. If he hits left-handed and hits for a higher average, I'm fine with that." the question is what happens to Matt Murton. "We still like Murton," Hendry said. "We think Murt's an everyday big-leaguer. He knows we all like him. Life would be a lot easier if Murton were left-handed." Talk about left handed obsession.
