  1. That's the problem - neither he or Adewale are earning their money. I'm really hoping a healthy Tommie Harris and fierce competition will bring the best out of Alex and Wale. Both are very good players. The reason the Bears D struggled at the end of last year was because they weren't getting consistent pressure w/ the front 4. Hopefully the DTs can take up 3-4 blockers on passing downs leaving the ends 1 on 1 on the outside more often. We'll see, I'm suprised to hear this much positive talk about Adams; I thought he was a disappointment @ SF which was why they let him go. I must've misread that whole deal. In my delusional world Mike Brown stays healthy, which gives our D its edge back, and DT turns out to be not a huge issue. Hey, I can dream can't I? 8-) I don't think Adams has a huge contingent of fans or anything, but I definitely think that he will be serviceable when placed around other great defenders in a great scheme (i.e Ian Scott and Alfonso Boone).
  2. Anybody know who's doing the game for ESPN2?
  3. one word -- VETERAN. Hendry thinks we need another vet for the playoff push -- even if that veteran is on the downside of his career. But that is the difference between us and Hendry....Hendry doesn't see him on the downside...and that ladies and gentlemen, is very sad AND the main reason the Cubs haven't won a World Series since 1908. Ken I understand what you're saying, but Jim Hendry is not the reason we haven't won a WS since 1908.
  4. Performance-wise, Lilly is right there with those guys. OK...performance wise in the weak NL. Who would you rather have going in Game 2 of a series? Give me those AL guys who can have no-hit stuff on any given night.
  5. Yeah, but still inferior to those AL teams #2's (Matsuzaka, Escobar, Bonderman)
  6. We are playing well right now, but tonight just goes to show that we are not a WS caliber team. Ours bats are so inconsistent and Zambrano is our only shutdown guy. We would have to get very lucky or hot to compete in a 7 game series with an AL playoff team (Boston, Anaheim, Detroit). Obviously this is common sense, just thinking what it would take to really put this team on those top AL teams level. One more #1/2 type pitcher or another Aram type bat, or both?
  7. Especially during the summer. Amen, been chasing my 1 yr old all over the house wishing there was a Cubs game on, and now that she is napping, I look at the time and its still 2 hours! Most of the world works, so we love night games.
  8. Nice sleeper picks. I agree with you on the BC player thing. I've gotten that impression too. Defensive depth may be the biggest difference between this year and last year (especially at DT and OLB, if Briggs doesn't play). A handful of young guys really have to step up. LB is obviously our biggest issue. Okwo or Williams really have to step up. But, I think that DT (barring injuries) is pretty solid for us. Tommie is obviously a monster, Dusty and Anthony Adams should be comparable to Ian Scott and Alfonso Boone and Antonio Garay is an asset as a #4 DT. He is very underrated. And let's not forget that Idonije and Alex Brown can move inside if necessary. Our DB depth is just plain sick.
  9. I think we will hear raves about both Hester and Olsen. I think the rookie surprise will be Josh Beekman; it seems like BC always does a real good job of preparing their OLmen to step in soon at this level. On defense I hope to see Danieal Manning break out a bit. I also hope to see a big jump out of Antonio Garay (DT) and continued improvement from Idonije. Watch for the names Kevin Payne (S) and David Ball (WR), because those 2 just might make the team as sleepers. Cedric staying healthy is key #1
  10. Very solid career. I have probably never heard of anyone who works as hard as this guy day in, day out.
  11. That would not be the smartest thing for the Sox IMO.
  12. Well, next year Pie will be in center from the get go. Edit: Well, not if we traded him I guess.
  13. They could've just put the extra game today and made it a 4-game series instead of a double header sometime later in the season. We are owed a game with them? Yeah... The day Josh Hancock died the Cubs were in St. Louis. That game was canceled and postponed to a later date. September 15 double header. Yeah, I had forgotten about that. Hopefully Anthony Reyes can get his first win of the season (yeah, right) on Saturday against the Brewers.

  15. Congrats, you managed to spell 5/9 names incorrectly.
  16. Sounds like something Brewers fans were saying after the Cubs sat Lee and Ramirez yesterday. True. But (most days) they are still not as good without them.
  17. I posted this in our game thread, but Hart and Hardy are sitting for today's game. The top of their lineup doesn't look nearly as good with Gwynn and Counsell up there.
  18. Hart and Hardy have the day off for Milwaukee (Gwynn & Counsell batting 1-2). Time to pick up another game.
  19. The article (blog, whatever) says Fox is expected to play in RF against LHP. But we don't face any LHP in the next few days so maybe he is here to stay for a bit??
  20. Updated Murton's last 7 games: 13-31 (.419) 8 Runs 2 HR 6 RBI 3 2B 2:5 K/BB Pie's last 6 games: 11-30 (.367) 6 Runs 4 HR 5 RBI 1 2B 7:2 K/BB Matt Murton will be back with this team sooner rather than later. Pie is just a monster in Iowa.
  21. Are they showing the patients to their team doctor? Sorry, I am that bored.
