  1. because we have been playing .500 baseball with our current roster for the last 2 months? It was a hot streak. It got them back into contention, but to think they will sustain +.650 baseball the rest of the year is really pushing it. They havent even been over 8 games above .500 The team has to many weaknesses to sustain playing at that level for a 2-3 month timeframe. your right. team sucks. season over. good analyisis thanks for the input. I said nothing of the sort, but whatever, Im a Cubs fan and I expect failure from my team, as thats what they have done my entire life. Believe me I hope Im wrong, and IM man enough to admit it if Im wrong. We are all Cubs fans, but we all look at things differently, so why is my pessimism such a horrible thing? Its been 99 years and all 27 years of my life, and Ive never seen the Cubs in a World Series, so I think my pessimism is very warranted. Alright enough already! You're depressing... Ill post when I want to post but thanks Obviously... Sorry I didnt know differing opinions werent allowed on a message board. But it's not really differing opinions, it's just straight negativity. The Cubs are a good team and a trade at this point obviously didn't make sense (or else it would have been made).
  2. LOL...A-rod part deux? Soriano part deux.
  3. Why would you say that? We've been playing well over .500 with this exact team. Look, I would have liked to do somethign as well. But it just wasn't possible.
  4. Nope, only day this week I won't be there. Edit: Actually, Thursday too.
  5. Who on earth would he replace, Marshall? Gimme a break.
  6. Oh God no! He is one of the worse pitchers in baseball. I've wondered numerous times how he's even in the big leagues.
  7. Odds are that if we did trade for someone he wouldn't be in the starting lineup tonight anyways.
  8. Link Isn't that a couple days old? the article has today's date. can't say how recent his source told him that though Yeah, I seem to remember those exact words a couple of days ago. I wouldn't mind it happening, but I think he's just throwing out possibilities rather than substantial rumors. It was in another thread, thats probably what you are thinking about. Also, the 3 team Bosox deal is old news, the new news is a sending Wily Mo and a minor league pitcher for Dye. Sox beat reporters suck worse than cubs beat reporters (except for Bruce, he doesnt suck). Manny Delcarmen. I didn't specify because it wasn't clear whether or not it was going to be Delcarmen or Masterson, or even one of their others, but supposedly now the deal is dead because the BoSox didnt want to give up Delcarmen or Masterson. Yup, Delcarmen going to Texas.

  10. That took all of one post to completely derail. OK, I'd like to see Jermaine Dye because I think he wouldn't be too expensive to acquire and fills a need. And he has to be better than his first half #'s.
  11. I'm not as high on Dunn, especially lately. I was in a discussion recently about Dunn, and I have to admit, I was sort of swayed. Yes, he's an OPS machine. Is that misleading, though? His RC/27 is only 6.65 for his career. I think it's around 6.8 this year. Good, but I don't think it's especially good for a corner OF. Also, I could be wrong, but that seems much too low for a guy with almost a .900 OPS for his career. He's getting paid like an elite hitter, too. I wouldn't say he's at that level in terms of production, even though he's very good. You could do a lot better than him, particularly for what he's getting paid. I just don't see the fascination. I could understand if the production was going unnoticed and he wasn't getting paid like an elite hitter (because of his other shortcomings), but he's getting paid big anyway, because he hits 40+HR a year. I definitely see his production. It's very good, but it's not elite, IMO, and I just don't see the value. OK, I feel like I'm just babbling. I'm not even feeling like I can make a well reasoned argument right now, so whatever. I'll leave it at that. I like Dunn, but I just feel he is one of those players I'd go insane watching everday. So many highs and lows. And I'm guessing his fundamental play would just piss me off entirely.
  12. That's what I'm thinking too. If we could trade for an OF with Murton as the centerpiece I'd be very happy. Pie >>> Murton.
  13. Wow, he looks extremly depressed/stoned.
  14. I'm not sure I'd do this. I really do like Felix.
  15. Ewww. Can he pitch tonight instead of Cole (even though we are going to beat Hamels anyway)?

  17. Agreed, I just looked up Laird's numbers and they are pretty bad. I would rather take my chances with Kendall and Blanco than waste the Cubs top prospect on those guys. Has Pie's value tanked that bad, that his name is being brought up in trades for bit players? I wouldn't think so, he's tearing up AAA and still real young. And I thought he did OK when in Chicago. Obviously his patience needs to improve at the big league level, but he has great potential.
  18. Maybe Jim thinks he'll be working for the Rangers next year. You only trade Pie if you get a "known commodity" in return.
  19. Do you think more trades are going to be made today or tomorrow?
  20. Jon Heyman in SI said Pie for Laird. I'm fine with trading Pie, but you better be damn sure you're getting a difference maker and not some replacement level player who does nothing special. Could you live with Pie for Church straight up? No
