  1. Going back to the start of the hot streak (day after Lou's ejection and suspension) I believe the Cubs have the best record in all of baseball, not just the NL. Is it fair to say that this isn't a hot streak anymore, the Cubs are just good? It has been almost 2 months. I think so; I didn't mean to imply that it was temporary with my wording. I only meant that I think they're currently the hottest team in all of baseball, not just the NL. Yeah, this week's games (against legit squads) are really going to be fun now that we are good.
  2. That would be an amazing trade!

  4. I don't. I'd trade Jones for Payton. But Pagan has been pretty solid against LHP. Don't let a hot streak fool you. He's a 5th OF. Yeah, but if he's only playing against LHP, that's fine with me.

  6. I don't have a problem with Theriot. I have a problem with being satisfied having 4 holes in the lineup. I'd be fine with Theriot, just as long as something happens to improve the lineup elsewhere. Just remember, the Cubs are 9th in the NL in OPS, they are, at best, an average lineup. Since it takes a lot more than average to be a great team, and I want the Cubs to be a great team, I'm not going to be happy with average, or worse, production. True, but SS is not the realistic upgrade. We all know Hendry is not going to get another MI. We need to focus on an OF. I don't buy much of the "realistic upgrade" talk. The Cubs have 4 holes, on the plus side, that leaves them with several options to find improvements. A good GM should be able to find something out there to improve what is 4 good sized holes in the lineup. I don't care where it comes from at this point, I just feel like they have to get it. I fully understand your point, but wouldn't you rather have Theriot at SS and a new CF than (??) at SS and Jones/Pagan in CF?

  8. And power isn't just HR's. It's XBH's. Theriot needs to hit more XBH's of any kind. You CAN live with Theriot at SS if you upgrade the OF, or C. Agreed. But again, who's out there that will significantly upgrade either of those positions? Sosa in RF against LHP. Church in CF Payton/Pie platoon in CF Ramon Hernandez C There's also the argument to be made that you could find upgrades at nearly all of these spots in house; that a Murton/Floyd platoon in RF, a Pagan/Jones platoon in CF or a Pie CF, and a Soto/Hill combo at C would be better than what we have now. But the team has demostrated that Murton and Soto aren't going to get that opportunity. No, no, no. This Jay Payton is worthwhile talk needs to stop.
  9. That's a very bad idea. And I'm still not understanding people's problem with Theriot. Assuming we can add one bat, I think we are fine.
  10. Who's out there to get that we won't get fleeced over? Sosa and Pie or Payton could replace Jones and Pagan and we'd be a much better team, and neither guy costs much. We need to be better against LHP. We need more power in the OF. We can't keep this pace up without some sort of boost to the offense. Is Payton really better than Pagan? No.
  11. SS, C and RF remain problems. There are holes on this team. We get no SLG from RF, no anything from C and I'm not sold on a middle IF of Theriot and Fontenot. Well, Fontenot is not going to be playing over DeRosa. And I'm fine with our catching situation if we can upgrade an OF spot.
  12. Olsen is amazing. He's basically a huge, tall, fast WR out there. I didn't think a guy that big could move & catch like that. If we can only get his blocking to average, he's going to be a monster no question in my mind. Rex has looked very, very sharp in all the practices I've watched. Hester had a few drops in practice yesterday though. Wolfe sat out his second practice, he was in just a shirt & shorts yesterday. They practiced in full pads for the first time, but the hitting was still @ less than full speed. Lovie is easing them in, which IMO is smart with a veteran team like this. Our defensive depth this year is going to be just sick! 8-) How many teams can say they've got Super Bowl starters on the bench?? With Lovie at the helm you won't get full speed hitting hardly ever, if at all.
  13. Johan Santana - 2004 thanks. I couldn't come up with his 2nd half stats very easily so I quit trying. But I'm assuming that was the year he went like 14-1 in the second half, or whatever it was.
  14. 37% of our outs were made by two players today.
  15. I hate non-HD WGN. Off to watch the game, enjoy.
  16. Yeah, if talking about Lou's decision today, true. Gimme Cedeno at 2nd over Fontenot. But I'd still rather see DeRosa at 2nd today, with Murton in right (or Floyd). But I think we're pretty much on the same page.
  17. I'm assuming the plan is he won't, unless extremely necessary (extra innings).
  18. In all fairness, hes had more than 1 AB in all but 2 games in the last 10. Ronny has 6 ab's since being called up. He's been up for 10 games already? Wow, the season flies. No Cedeno has been up since the 24. Oh ok. I thought that seemed quick.
  19. Like him saying Kendall and Hill were going to alternate starts? Or how Cedeno and Theriot were going to split time at SS? Lou says alot of stuff, and then does the exact opposite. And so what? He's got the hammer, and he's going to use it. I don't recall him saying Cedeno and Theriot were going to split time. He did say Theriot would need days off. Things change as time goes on, and any manager reserves the right to change his mind. Lou doesn't give one dam* what anybody thinks (including us) as long as the team is winning. I kind of like it. I remember reading Lou saying that him and Theriot would split time, but I dont remember where. And Im happy Lou doesnt give a damn what anybody thinks, but if he thinks Murton or Cedeno will continue their hot hitting getting 1 AB a game, hes wrong. The way Floyd has been hitting, there really is no reason for Murt to not get a shot in RF. Instead hes been relegated to the bench once again. Same goes for Cedeno, we have a starting 2nd baseman who has a sub .600 OPS, but Cedeno cant get a shot? I agree with you completely on the Murton front but not so much on Ronny. I think most here would agree that we are best off with Theriot at SS, DeRosa at 2nd and a Murton/Floyd platoon in the OF with Cedeno getting the occasional start in the INF. I have no problem with Derosa, but Fontenot has completely cooled off since the break, and even before the break he was struggling. Cedeno was tearing up AAA and then comes up and sits. So now when/if he does get his shot and he struggles it really shouldnt be a surprise. I just hope they give him more than 2 or 3 games when/if he does get a chance. If/when he does get a chance, I'm all for it. It's just unfortunate for him that Theriot is playing well right now and the team is winning. Less likely that things are going to be experimented with.
  20. BBTN just confired Ensberg was DFA.
