    I saw all the replays before and I feel that they showed that the ball would not have landed in the field of play. I've come to terms with that. Rather than complain about Bartman, why don't we worry about damning Alex Gonazalez to hell since he is the real culprit.

    Moises wears his emotions on his sleeve, and I don't think his reaction should have been all that surprising to anyone. Plus, he apologized for his reaction before Game 7. Bottom line is that Gonzalez had the highest F% of all NL shortstops in 2003 and that was a routine grounder. Even distracted, any competent player should be expected to make that play. Seconded, Moises is an emotional guy, and make no mistake, that was fan interference, so he was justifiably upset. But Gonzo's error should be the focus of that collapse. Not under the rules it wasn't. The ball was going to land in the stands and therefore was not interference. CFP did a great breakdown at some point afterwards about this, too bad we don't have it any more. Bartman was reaching over the railing. But regardless, it shouldn't have mattered, Gonzo should've made the play, Alou should've worn PF flyers and caught it anyway, etc. You can tell that Alou was reaching over the railing. The ball would NOT have landed on the field of play. Therefore it is not fan interference. As much as I don't want to admit it, the umpires made the correct call. Believe me, I wish just as much as every other Cubs fan that either Alou would have caught the ball or the ball would have landed in the field of play so the umps could have called interference. But it didn't end up that way. The correct call was made.

    I hope you're right. If you are, the Cubs should be okay. But I have my doubts and rightfully so.

    I'd trade Prior, Wood (pick up the option, eat the cash and get some decent prospects), Jones, and Barrett. Why would you want to trade Barrett right now? He's one of the best hitting catchers in the league? Do you really think a young guy in the farm system is going to be significantly better than him? I don't.

    I dressed up as Bartman for Halloween, primarily because it was an easy costume. But some of the torture I have imagined heaping on Gonzalez should keep me in Purgatory for a long, long time. Whenever people ask me about that game I always tell them that I blame Alex Gonzalez more than Bartman and I blame Gonzalez more and more every day. Any person that says they wouldn't have gone for that ball is lying. You can't control the fans. The players are getting paid to make plays on routine ground balls like the one Gonzalez muffed. That is controllable. Damn you Alex Gonzalez. Damn you to hell.

    This actually got me thinking...why is it that you never see marginal major league starters suffer major injuries? You do. You just don't care about it. Exactly. ESPN doesn't spend much time on journeyman injuries. They spend time on injuries to stars because that's all that anybody cares about.

    I almost cried after the eighth inning of Game 6. Game 7 didn't really affect me all that much because I just knew they were going to lose. I knew Game 6 was the Cubs chance and they blew it. Game 7 was basically a formality.

    Maddux definately would be at least a 4th starter on every other team and probably a 3rd. Sure he isn't as good as when he won the Cy Youngs in the 90's. But he is by no means a horrible pitcher.

    I would have the Cardinals at the top and then the Astros and Cubs at 2 and 3 depending on if Clemens returns. If he does than the Astros are 2 but if he doesn't I think the Cubs are 2.

    And that is why managers don't base their MLB rosters solely on spring training.

    Yeah but wouldn't taking steroids as a pitcher just help you throw your fastball harder? It's not going to help you throw a better change up or a better curve ball. A harder fastball isn't that big of a deal if you can pitch well (see Greg Maddux, Barry Zito, etc.) If you don't have another pitch, a good fastball isn't going to help you. Eventually major league hitters will catch up to it. Taking steroids as a hitter is MUCH more advantagous. Having a quicker bat allows to wait that extra split second before swinging at the pitch which is huge in baseball. It also gives you extra strength to hit the ball farther as well. So not only are you going to hit more balls better by taking steroids, but you're going to hit them farther. That's a much bigger difference than what a pitcher gets out of it.

    I went into it thinking it was going to be solely about the players taking steroids but Bryant goes into a lot of detail about how baseball operates. I was surprised how much depth he went into.

    This is self explanatory. This is an excellent book that does not just point the finger at the players but at all of baseball. It also discusses other factors other than steroids that could have caused the power boom. Also, for anybody that has read the book already, post your thoughts on the book.

    And you know what the worst part is? There will still be tons of Giants fans that will try to defend him by saying "he still never tested positive" just because they know he is the only reason they have a chance of making the postseason. And I live in northern California so I'll have to hear all of it.

    Most of the players on the Giants as well as their front office people knew about Bonds's routine. The same goes for the rest of the teams for the past decade. Players didn't talk because they would be considered snitches and would be alienated. Front office guys didn't talk because they would get fired or in the higher up's case, the players were making the owners more money by bringing more people to the ballpark. MLB didn't do anything because they needed to get people interested in baseball again following the 1994 strike. If you have a chance, read "Juicing the Game" by Howard Bryant. It isn't solely about steroids and it is an excellent book. I highly recommend it. It isn't just the players who are at fault for the steroid scandal.

    A lot of the information on Bonds was more speculation than fact. Hopefully this book will make it more factual.

    This SI article is full of great quotes. Bonds is done. There is no way he is digging himself out of this hole.
