  1. Pujols doesn't seem like the type of person that would act like a jerk to people. He just doesn't have that type of demeaner. I'm not surprised one bit he acted like this. As for Eckstein, he probably was just thinking, "wow, these guys are actually talking to me, and they aren't being mean. this is super."
  2. Yes he is. A good game does not erase a terrible career. My point is is that is getting a little ridiculous to see everybody freak out if he is in the starting lineup. He shouldn't be a starter, but obviously he will start some games this year. Can we stop the NSBB PMS whenever he is starting? start some games? who has the most PA's at second base this season? it ain't walker or hairston They have played 3 games this year. Wait to see how the season plays out. Having such a small sample size is horrible when trying to make an argument.
  3. Blind squirrel, meet nut. missing my point. I'm hardly a Neifi fan. He shouldn't be a full time starter. But, he isn't going to kill you either. It is comical to see people react around here when he is in the lineup. Agreed. BTW, I love the quote at the bottom Bruno. One of my favorite lines from the book.

He shouldn't be a starter, but obviously he will start some games this year. Can we stop the NSBB PMS whenever he is starting? People freak out because Dusty is dumb enough to keep starting him if he does well. I think the problem isn't that Dusty is dumb enough to keep starting him if he does well. The problem is that Dusty won't STOP starting him when he goes into a big slump. Why wouldn't you want to start somebody who is hitting well? If Neifi starts two days in a row and has a couple good games and goes 5 for 8 or something like that, why wouldn't you want to keep starting him. It takes a good coach to realize that a player is slumping and bench him and get somebody else in there. Assuming the player is an average player of course and not an All-Star.
  5. Yes he is. A good game does not erase a terrible career. Is he an All-Star? No. Is he a good everyday player? No. But is he a good fill-in if need be. Yes. I don't think he should be starting every day but I do think he deserves some starts.
  6. Bob and Len said it wasn't a save situation and I didn't think it was either. Maybe I'm wrong.
  7. Nothing like coming home from class to see the Cubs beating the Cardinals.
  8. RF It says left field on MLB gamecast.
  9. Stupid Frenchie, has he heard of hustling? I doubt it. He should have had second base easily.
  10. Bobby Howry you are a god. I love you, in a completely platonic way.
  11. I love all who suit up for the Cubs. Doesn't mean I want him starting tomorrow. Good point. But I know a lot of people despise Neifi.
  12. Who loves Neifi and his 3 hits? Anybody?
  13. Ichiro has hit safely in all four games this year and the last four games of last year. He went 0-3 against Texas on September 27. As for holding the hit streaks over I think they should do it. I think it should be considered different from Dimaggio's 56, but if somebody hits in 57 over two season I think he should be honored with the longest overall hitting streak of all time. But I don't think anyone is ever going to break it. It's just too long and requires too much luck. There are tons of great hitters that never even got to 30 games.

    Bonds

I don't know if I can hate Barry Bonds any more than I already do.
  15. I don't particularly like Mariotti. I'm assuming that Mariotti criticized baseball for not acting sooner about steroids. If this is the case the I have to agree with Mariotti on this issue. Steroids were banned in the United States as well as in the other professional sports well before they were banned in baseball. I understand that Selig was trying to get fans interested in the game again and he let the steroids go because of it. But Selig has to take accountability for not stopping the problem sooner. Selig always let Donald Fehr run the CBA discussions and usually ended up losing because of it. I'm not saying that, had I been commishioner, I would have institued a steroid program earlier. All I'm saying is that Selig needs to say "yes I ignored the problem for the good of the game" because I think that's why he did it. And I think that is Mariotti's point. As for the MacPhail and Reinsdorf, they shouldn't be saying anything because they sure as hell didn't say anything about instituting steroid testing because they were too busy raking in the money from all of the home runs. So they have no right to criticize Mariotti when they were part of the problem also.
  16. Well wouldn't people on this board just LOVE that. Well just the starts. According to some people that might be 243 too many at bats for the season.
  17. I like to look at players statistics after a few games and see what they are projected to have. Ramon Hernandez has 5 RBI's and is on pase for 405 on the season. Albert Pujols is on pace for 162 HR's and 270 runs scored Chris Shelton is on pace for 486 hits One of the funniest stats is the fleet footed Pujols is on pace for 54 SB's this year. The list just goes on and on. Anyone else find this hilarious?
  18. I would rather have Prior sit out a couple extra weeks to guarantee his health than have him get rushed back and get injured again. I just hope this "acceleration" doesn't lead to a setback.
  19. I don't hate Grudzielanek because he actually hit well for the Cubs and didn't kill virtually every rally they had like Patterson did.
