  1. In which of course we sweep the Cards and Cub Nation gets back on the bandwagon. I would love a sweep of the Cards more than anything else. Except for Barry Bonds shredding his knee of course.
  2. I heard Jerome Williams as well for the same reason Vance stated.
  3. I love that Z is leading the league in strikeouts yet still doesn't have a win...wait, I don't love that...I want him to have three wins...but I like the strikeouts...ouch, my head hurts...aspirin anybody?
  4. I'll crack open a cold one in honor of Maddux when the game starts.
  5. "If you want me to wear 37 pieces of flair like your pretty boy Brian over there, then why don't you just make the minimum thirty-seven pieces of flair?" Awesome movie.
  6. And I can watch either. A 16-12 game is fun, a 1-0 game is exciting. Agreed. I'm a big time soccer fan (stating the obvious) so I don't mind a 1-0 game. I just care that the Cubs win.
  7. Don't you remember the meeting with Congress on St Patricks Day 2005? McGwire pleaded the fifth the whole day and got completely ripped apart in the media. And when Palmeiro tested positive the media destroyed him also. Both have basically admitted guilt. Bonds keeps steadfastly denying it. He should be out there alone because no other player has as much speculation surrounding him and still denies it.
  8. I agree. I think we need to win this series especially since it is on the road. The first game today is very important. Starting a nine game road trip. If it starts off poorly against a crummy team it could continue all the way to the STL series next weekend.
  9. Can Matt Murton take every at bat against Milton?
  10. Moreover, I think a lot of these people don't watch too many non-Cub games, and aren't fully aware of how many bad defensive catchers are out there. Or the exact opposite. They see teams with excellent defensive catchers that throw out a lot of runners but don't realize that those catchers hit almost as bad as the pitchers do.
  11. A-rod? Nope...Cause I still see ARod as the GAME'S best SS, except Jeter won't get off his high horse, and let the superior player have the position. I don't think ARod earned the right to play SS for the Yankees. That is Jeter's position and he has earned it by working is butt off every single day. I know ARod is the better hitter and if the roles were reversed (Jeter coming to ARod's team) I think Jeter would have to play second fiddle to ARod. But the Yankees are Jeter's team. Jeter dives into the stands to get a ball. ARod slaps an opposing players arm to get the ball out. Jeter hits home runs to tie/win World Series games. ARod gets 2 HR's and 7 RBI's in a 15-2 rout of the Devil Rays. There is a difference.
  12. Agreed. I would say that Jones is the only one that we would need to replace. Murton and Cedeno are both on the way up whereas Jones isn't.
  13. Doesn't that depend on where in the order you want the player to bat? They both bat third. Let's say both players have 5 season in the majors. Player A has Mo Vaughn speed and is a station to station base runner. Player B has Juan Pierre speed. Player A's average and OBP dip considerably with runners on because he presses every AB with a man on trying to get the big hit and he strikes out a lot. Player B has his best numbers across the board with runners on. They play in similar parks with similar lineups. I would still have to go with Player A for the reason that CardsFanInChiTown cited. Just compare Derrek Lee and David Ortiz from last year. Lee had a higher BA, higher OBP, higher SLG, and 1 less home run than Ortiz yet Lee had 41 less RBI's. I know that American Leaguers usually have more RBI's but Lee was clearly the superior all around hitter last year. But I guarantee you that if you switched the two players that Lee's RBI stats would have soared and Ortiz's would have dropped like a rock.
  14. If the players batting behind Pierre weren't hitting at all and Pierre didn't have any runs scored so far, would you still think he was having a good season so far? A player that doesn't hit home runs has to depend on other players to drive him in.
  15. Player A - RBI and Runs are a team driven stat. What player would you rather pick up in the offseason? I have to agree with you. I would rather have Player A. 90 RBI's for the Yankees is a lot different than 90 RBI's with the Royals.
  16. That's the point. Neifi is the worst player that has actually had enough at bats to qualify for this. Augie may be worse, but he is so bad that he isn't good enough to get the at bats. Oh...IS that the point? ...jesus... Actually, yes it is.
  17. Doesn't that depend on where in the order you want the player to bat?
  18. If Maddux helped the Cubs win the World Series, that would be historic. Player starts career with one team, leaves, then comes back and helps his original team win a World Series. I'm wondering if a Cubs World Series outweighs all of his great years with the Braves. If the Cubs don't win the Series then he will definately go in as a Brave. Let's just hope we need to have that debate in a few months.
  19. Me either....but so far, he looks better than Rusch. Well, just about anybody could have looked better than Rusch so far.
  20. He's 4 of 24 with a walk since opening day. Then which of these are classified as bad games: 1 for 4 2 runs 2 SB 1 for 4 1 run 1 for 4 1 RBI 1 for 3 1 BB Getting on base 1 out of 4 times is awful. Especially since he's a leadoff hitter.
  21. That is awesome. Talk about a free swinger. The most walks he ever had in a season was 40. He had 35 BB in another and never had another season with more than 30 BB. Both of those were full seasons as well. Somebody has to do it.
  22. It appears that I should have named this thread "Which NL 3B would you want on your team." My apologies go out to David Wright.
  23. Thanks a lot Wade Boggs.
  24. I like Diaz but I don't think he is a difference maker. He is also a guy without a position. They've tried him everywhere and he has stunk it up in the field. I do think he is a Chicagoan though. Isn't he the guy that hit the killer HR against us in 2004 late in the year? The one that tied the game in the bottom of the ninth?
