  1. Well if it helps one of those 4 ties was against the US in 2002 Which game? We beat Portugal 3-2, tied South Korea 1-1, lost to Poland 3-1, beat Mexico 2-0 and lost to Germany 1-0. No 2 goal comebacks for a tie there.
  2. My bad. I'll start a better poll, with all the teams, once we get to the elimination stage of the tournament.
  3. Great to see Marmol not only get a start but pitch well also. The Cubs have a real winning streak going. Haven't seen this in a while.
  4. Slick and The Big Broken Down need to figure out something quick. They looked awful today. The BBD had just five points on 2-5 shooting in 28 minutes and wasn't even in foul trouble.
  5. No. There is a reason nobody has done it since 1941. Everybody was talking about DLee hitting .400 and winning the Triple Crown last year and he didn't come close to getting either of those.
  6. I made sure to request off the mornings when the US was playing a month ago. I also requested the semifinals and the finals off a month ago as well to make sure I didn't have to work.
  7. Yes. Brazil won in Sweden in 1958 and in Korea/Japan in 2002. But for the most part you are correct. Wikipedia
  8. Just over 17 hours left... USA
  9. I only watched the second half of the Mexico game. What happened to Borgetti? After the first 15-20 minutes of the first half, Portugal didn't look that good against Angola. In fact the Portugal-Angola game was very similar to the England-Paraguay game. Both England and Portugal scored early, had a couple other chances, but on the whole neither looked very impressive.
  10. That sounds good to me. Sometimes I don't get off work until 10 or 1030 out here Pacific time so that would give me time to get home and start the thread as well.
  11. Done! I inserted you after ndistops, since that's where you spot-started. I appreciate it when people spot-start the threads, especially since I've had a crazy work schedule over the past few months and usually am not around for the end of night games. The game thread forum has been around for a couple of years now, and we know how everyone's schedule changes a lot with vacations etc once summer really kicks off. I am already on the list after Jazz and before Shavo. I don't lose my spot there do I, but I do get credit for the loss, yes?
  12. the offside rule is only in effect if the person recieving the ball is in front of the passer/ball. the ball can be played sideways or backwards (or forward as long as the recieving player is behind and runs onto it) and it doesn't matter. gotcha. thanks. That was the one thing I hated about refereeing - a majority of the parents not understanding what offsides was. That was so aggravating sometimes. Hey now, I just couldn't remember the rule! :D Allow me to clarify. I get aggravated by parents that don't know the rule but think they know the rule and therefore I, not them, are in the wrong and get mad at me for it while I'm refereeing. It's one thing for a parent to not know the rule and ask me at halftime about it. I don't mind that in the least and I actually like that because the parent knows that they don't know the rule and I do (hence the reason I'm refereeing) and would like to know the rule themselves.
  13. I would make a joke about how the Cubs dropped the OBP on a 3-0 count to .957 but that would require the Cubs to actually GET to a 3-0 count, which we know they never do.
  14. Is this book in the same series as "How to Completely Ignore Statistics" by Joe Morgan?
  15. 'Twasn't in a mocking way, it just reminded me of my dad. Even with the Cardinals, he's an eternal pessimist. It's funny, and that response to Carlos Lee was something he would say about anyone the Cardinals would acquire. I can't wait to be a Cubs fan have the same sunny disposition when it comes to my team. :) A pessimistic Cardinals fan? Not possible. The only thing less believable would be a pessimistic Yankees fan.
  16. Z pitches another great game and the Cubs start up a winning streak. Which will most likely be followed by a losing streak.
  17. Mine was indeed a spot start but was after a loss. I know that ndistops waited (as he stated in the thread) until 3 AM CT which would be three hours after the midnight CT deadline. I'm not trying to instigate an argument, but I would hardly call that being antsy. I started my thread right after midnight CT only because Treeman had been MIA for two days and nobody was sure where he was. Had he said something at any point during the day 6/6, I wouldn't have started the thread. I know this wasn't a personal attack on either myself or ndistops but I just figured I would explain. EDIT: Whenever you get a chance, update my record to 0-1 Serena. Not that I'm proud of the loss but I have to take it.
  18. Glendon Rusch has pitched a couple good games as well but I doubt you would find anybody on this board that would call Rusch anything better than worthless. A consistently bad pitcher is better IMO because he is just that, consistent. To me, a pitcher that is up and down is worse because you don't know what you are going to get out of him. With the consistently bad pitcher, you aren't going to bring him in during a tight situation unless you absolutely have to therefore not allowing him to blow as many games. Who cares if he gives up 5 runs when you are already down a bunch? But the up and down pitcher could get brought in during a tight situation and blow it. He could be good, but he could be bad and you just have to hope for him to be good.
  19. I was driving home today and was listening to a Giants talk show and they brought up ways to improve the team offensively. The most obvious spot that the guy on the radio brought up was second base. So with the Giants just 2 games out of first in the basically up for grabs NL West, why not Walker to the Giants? If the Cubs do decide to sell Walker would likely go considering he is a FA and the Cubs already tried to trade him in the offseason. I don't know a lot about farm systems, but does anybody know if there are any good young players the Cubs could get in return if this trade was pulled off?
  20. I would be careful in going after Schmidt. He'll be 34 by the time the 2007 season rolls around and Felipe Alou has a tendency to run up the pitch counts. Schmidt is averaging 113 pitches a start this year.
  21. the ukraine is weak Nothing like a good Seinfeld quote.

  23. Ugh, 6 am on a Saturday. My dad is TIVOing it. We're going to get up around 830 and watch it while enjoying a Guinness or two. mmmmm...Guinness
  24. Wow. I was watching the end of the game solely so I could see Colvin.
  25. The only way that could possibly be worse is in Neifi was playing SS instead of Ronny.
