  1. I'm going to have to miss part of the first round of games because of a high school soccer game to cover.
  2. well I would believe that better recruits will come to Minnesota now that Tubby is there. Any speculation on who will move to Kentucky? Who is the mid-major flavor of the week? SIU coach? Winthrop? VCU? It's still a lower profile job and it's Minnesota. Where do you think the average top recruit is going to like more, North Carolina or Minnesota. What does NC have to do with this? I just threw out a big name school. You could easily sub Kansas, UCLA, Duke, etc. in there for North Carolina and it wouldn't make a difference.

Monson did snag Kris Humphries(cause Coach K told him to kiss off). I happy that Smith got out of UK, the SEC programs that are one sport dominant have really harsh fans(alabama, kentucky) I'm not doubting whether or not he can get big recruits because his name alone will make recruits listen to him. And believe me, I hope he does land some major recruits and make Minnesota basketball at least respectable in the Big 10. I'm just saying that a lot of top recruits are going to think "Minnesota, why would I want to go there?" IIRC with Humphries, he was from Minnesota anyway which definitely helped. I agree with being happy for him to get out UK because of all the criticism he was under.

  5. Good move by the Gophers, meh move for Tubby. On one hand he's going to a lower profile job which means lower expectations than what he had at Kentucky. On the other hand, it's a lower profile job and he'll have a harder time landing top recruits because of it. We'll see how this works out. Since both of my parents graduated from Minnesota, I hope it works out well.
  6. Story Matt Schaub has signed a 6 year, $48M  deal with the Texans. I think we know who is going to be the starter now.
  7. Good job Tony.
  8. I bet Joe Morgan doesn't even know what a computer is. For his online chats he probably has somebody ask him the questions people send it, he answers, and another person types in Joe's response.
  9. This poll should be used for a good laugh (especially the Edmonds option).
  10. I have all Elite 8's except for Oregon (damn you Notre Dame) which ticks me off because I originally picked Oregon for the Elite 8 but switched to Notre Dame.
  11. Link Gus Johnson's call of Ron Lewis's 3-pointer in the OSU-Xavier game. Such a great call, one that Simmons also addresses in his last basketball blog column. And my vote goes for Gus.
  12. Have I mentioned I hate Aaron Gray yet? Cause I do. He's just a big oaf. Only once or twice. :D
  13. Where did Thad Matta coach before he went to Ohio State? I can't quite remember... He was a long time assistant coach for Chuck Daily in the NBA. I don't know if he had a college coaching gig though. Xavier, which is what Andy was going for, since they talked that up during the Xavier-OSU game. To defend the media, that is a pretty big story especially with Matta leaving Xavier in the manner that he did. Obviously the media is going to focus on that sort of thing. The same goes for Ben Howland and Pittsburgh. Also, in Matta's case, he was facing players at Xavier that he recruited to the school. Of course it's going to be a big deal and the media is going to talk about it a lot.
  14. you have to admit that question would be pretty grating. I would ask it just to hear him make a butt of himself. Wasn't there a humorous article on ESPN page 2 where the writer listed all the topics throughout a season he'd like to ask Guillen just to hear the responses? Simmons, I think Yeah, pretty sure that was Bill Simmons.
  15. It means Lou has realized Cotts sucks. LOL, yes that's true! Cotts hasn't proven anything yet, I fear he will find a role (even a small one) in the bullpen. If Cotts is going to be on the team, I wouldn't mind Lou pulling a Dusty in this case and giving Cotts the role in the bullpen where he pitches once every two weeks - like Dusty did to Guzman (I believe) last year.
  16. Luke Walton has returned for the Lakers. Don't underestimate his Jedi abilities.
  17. I'm going to end up 5-3 for both yesterday and today. On the good side, I have seven Elite 8 teams still alive and all four Final Four teams.
  18. Well, this one's over. Memphis is gonna take it.
  19. I wish they would switch to that close game. They did here. I figured they switched nationally since this is the only close game. Unsurprisingly, CBS is still showing the USC game here. They were stupid at times while showing the UCLA game - switching to UNC-Michigan State as both teams were taking out their starters. I feel your pain. I was stuck with Stanford when they were down 30 in the second half. CBS rarely cut away.
  20. Memphis' free throw shooting is unreal today. ARGH, GET THE REBOUND NEVADA YOU IDIOTS!!!
  21. It's a good thing Kemp has 18 points today because I would be ready to kill him if he didn't. EDIT: Nevada is playing with fire right now. They REALLY need to be careful here.
  22. Texas is showing me why I didn't pick them to advance very far in the tourney.
  23. Durant, Hansbrough, Tucker, and Law are the finalists for the Naismith. My money is on Durant.
  24. The Celtics were fined $30K by the NBA for excessive contact with the Durant family. Link Celtics GM Danny Ainge sat next to Durant's mother at the Big 12 tourney.
  25. D.J. Augustin has to get going in the second half if Texas is going to have a chance to get the win.
