  1. That's what I was talking about. I've seen it in replays, but I never knew when, and why it happened. Why did it happen? Though it is encouraging. Because Bonds and Kent hated each other? Though I think in particular Jeff Kent was yelling at David Bell. I know there were others that happened, and supposedly one or two huge fights, but this one was caught on camera and presumably forced the manager and players to go through the same scrutiny that will follow this one. Yeah. Basically, they didn't like each other and they had gotten into fights in the clubhouse before. That time it just boiled over to the dugout so everybody found out about it.
  2. I bet Kerry hurt himself doing the interview.
  3. Memorial Day measuring point? The Cobs are not good.
  4. It may be ridiculous, but I wouldn't expect anything less from Bonds. Then his manager should insist that he play rather than leaving the decision up to Barroids. The manager decides who plays and when, not the players. is there a link to where barry bonds has publicly said this? i highly doubt it's true. Well, Bonds has said "I take care of me" so I wouldn't be surprised if he came up with a nagging injury to sit out a few days.
  5. He's in the Angels farm system. EDIT: Ack. Beaten by Amazing_Grace.
  6. Clemens and Bonds are the two obvious choices. ARod probably will end up as a virtual guarantee also. Junior and Sammy should as well. The three Braves starters (Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz) will all be mentioned in the same breath. Maddux would probably be the first but the other two should be right there after him. Jeter will because he plays in New York. I'm not saying he's not a very good player but playing in New York will definitely help him. I agree with whoever said Pedro Martinez. That stretch from 1997 to 2003 was just unreal especially his 2000 season in which he had a 1.74 ERA (285 ERA+, best in the modern era), and .737 WHIP. Sammy. Those are the few that come to mind initially.
  7. not entirely accurate - Jeter "rakes" almost all of the time regular season: 318/390/464 post season: 314/384/479 I love, LOVE, these two sets of stats. I repeat, I LOVE them.
  8. I know I'm just stating the obvious but... As of right now, five of the worst six records in the NL belong to teams residing in the Central. Think about that for a second. The last place team in the NL West, the Rockies, would be in second place in the Central. No team in the NL Central has a winning record in interdivision play. Conversely, only two teams have a losing record against the NL Central (Florida at 6-7 and Washington at 5-8). Only the Brewers have a winning record against either the NL East or West and they are only 9-8 against the East. I'm expecting one of the second place teams in either the NL East or West (whichever is in 2nd in the Wild Card) to petition Bud Selig to allow two teams from the East and two from the West into the playoffs and just have all six Central teams stay home in October.
  9. That really is an impressive streak. Seriously. I thought it was rough when my local minor league hockey team lost 3 in a row with me in attendance. Yeah, and it's not like I've heavily loaded those games in crappy years, I went to 18 games between '03 and '04. The strange thing is, I've never seen the Cubs lose at away games. I'm 6-0, with four of those wins coming at Busch, one in Milwaukee and one in Cincinnati. I'm going to a game at Busch in July, and to a couple in the Colorado series. If the trends hold, I may only attend road games until something crazy happens. Holy cow that is amazing. I have the opposite going on with the Sacramento River Cats. I've been to about 10 games over the past few years with my girlfriend and we've never seen them lose. I went to my first game as a reporter the other day and saw them lose for the first time. So I have still yet to see them lose when I pay for my ticket.
  10. Maybe it's true. Bruce at the Herald apparently heard something to the effect that Lou is not happy with Hendry's performance. Could be mutual. I don't suppose Bruce will reveal his source on this. http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/cubs.asp Can a new GM be considered a roster change?
  11. You mean all twelve of them?? Seriously. They have no fanbase. The Marlins barely filled half of that stadium even during the last week of the season when they took five of six from the Phillies and Mets to get the final playoff spot. Their largest crowd was 33215 during that week. Then all of a sudden the playoffs roll around and they're drawing 65000 fans. Those "fans" - and that's being generous to them - didn't deserve one World Series title let alone two.
  12. Yup. The Marlins aren't paying much at all which is what I figured. My editor was extremely happy today because the Giants got rid of Benitez. I liked the mysterious knee injury Armando cited yesterday as the reason he couldn't pitch on Wednesday after balking away the game against the Mets on Tuesday.
  13. That's a lot of wins for one year. :D
  14. That was an "I'm Keith Hernandez" moment. LeBron was just throwing whatever up and it was going in. I couldn't believe some of the shots he got to go down. There were a couple in there that when he let them go, I just shook my head but then they went in. I still don't think this series is over because those shots aren't going to continue falling. The Pistons did hold him to 19 points through three quarters.
  15. Four Big West teams made the tournament. I was kind of surprised that CSU Fullerton made it because they finished under .500 in conference play and three games behind Cal Poly though Fullerton was one game better than Cal Poly overall. But that's what winning a National Title a couple years ago will get you.
  16. Going to the A's-Rangers game tomorrow with my editor and I'll be sporting my Sammy Sosa jersey. GO SAMMY!!
  17. Me thinks I won't bother watching this game either.
  18. I knew I didn't watch this game for a reason.
  19. No offense, but I'd have more faith if it was davhern starting the thread. But it could be worse, I could be starting it.
