  1. I don't think I'd wake up at an ungodly hour to watch the Cubs play the Nationals. Did you see my post earlier in the thread? I would have had to wake up by 10 a.m. anyway so I just figured I would wake up an hour early.
  2. Actually, for once, I won't. I have to cover a Davis Little League All-Star game at 11:30. I probably won't get up for the beginning of the Cubs game, (although I might just for the hell of it) but I will be able to watch some of it before heading to the Little League game. EDIT: I had to work anyway but my editor gave me the option of covering either the baseball game or a bike race. That wasn't a hard decision. What kind of paper do you work for where anyone in their right mind would possibly care about either one of those events? I have no idea what the bike race even is so I can't tell you about that one. As for what kind of paper - it's a smaller paper (circulation of around 10,000) where we focus on the local athletics for Davis High and UC Davis more than anything. People can get the national stuff online or with the Sac Bee so for us to sell papers, we have to provide something else. We just use AP stories to fill up the extra space after the local stories are put in.
  3. Fun fact: The Cubs were undefeated from October 2006 through March 2007.
  4. Somebody brought this up in another thread (and I have no idea which one) but under the proposed deal the Cubs would be paying all but the league minimum (or around that figure) while the Marlins would have picked up the rest. But the Cubs would still have to pay another player to take Jones' position on the roster. So essentially the player replacing Jones would have to make the league minimum for the Cubs to not take on any more salary than they would already have by keeping Jones.
  5. I said yes because knowing the Cubs' luck he would either serve his suspension against Arizona or during the Philly/New York stretch.
  6. Other: Southpaw19. In all seriousness, I went with ARam.
  7. The first U.S. goal, a header by Szetela was superb also. Very impressive victory.

  9. Just because Young likely threw at Lee doesn't mean he's not a good pitcher and not the most worthy, out of the Last Ballot candidates, of being in the All-Star game. Z isn't saying that Young's a great guy. All Z is saying is that Young has outpitched Z this year. Which is true. As far as the rest of it, what you said later is probably correct - that he's not best buds with some of his teammates.
  10. The Cubs can't control what the Brewers do - only try and win their own games. I'll take 11-5 every 16 games for the rest of the season. 8-) LA, AZ, and ATL don't impress me very much. If we just concentrate on winning in July, I wouldn't be a bit suprised to see us jump on top of that wild card race. The Crew probably won't slow down, they're real good, are getty Cappy back, have an easy schedule, hit really well, blah blah. Too many reasons I can think of they won't slide. Hope they do, but I'm not counting on it. Not winning the division doesn't have to be the death knell of our season, though. Don't worry, Sheets will go down eventually.
  11. That would be an insult to blind squirrels everywhere. This is like a blind squirrel who can't smell anything and has no legs finding a nut.
  12. I assume so. Scary as that may seem. Meh. Not too much. I'll go ahead and say 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth.
  13. At first I thought DLee made a bad throw but Marmol just dropped that.
  14. It's all up to the pen at this point. I would assume Marmol is staying in.
  15. Not dominant, but quite good. He had one inning where he basically caused the run himself by walking a couple batters and hitting a guy. The 4 hits have been mostly bloops. Thanks. That's kind of what I figured based on his line and his high pitch count.
