  1. Game. 1-0 Sweden. I would rip the U.S. for a lackluster second half (I didn't get to watch too much of the first half) but I know they played a lot of younger guys to get them experience. It would have been nice if the U.S. took this match more serious to get their 'A' team more full games playing in Europe.
  2. Finally a good cross and, what do you know, a good scoring chance. Amazing how that works. Bradley had a solid header off the cross but the Sweden keeper made a good save. Not sure who took the free kick for the U.S.
  3. Can the US at least put a halfway decent cross into the middle? I can't even count how many attempted crosses just go high over the goal, right to the goalie, or, in Convey's case on the last free kick, not even get to the middle.
  4. Zizzo just came in for his first cap for the U.S.
  5. Rocketed free kick by Kallstrom from 25-30 yards out that went just wide. 75th minute now.
  6. Not really any good chances the past 10 minutes for either team.
  7. You going to either tonight's game or tomorrow's?
  8. 56th minute Kim Kallstrom rocketed a left-footed shot from around 20 yards out past Howard in the 56th minute. 1-0 Sweden on a solid goal. There may have been a push by a Swede right before that but both teams were pushing a bit. EDIT: Beat Howard near post and it looked more like a big time pushoff by #9 of Sweden right before the goal. He really leaned out and shoved the US defender.
  9. Good save by Howard on a shot from 18 yards out by Howard. Followed shortly by Dempsey not getting a good boot on the ball from about nine yards out. Should have scored.
  10. It's 0-0 and the second half is just starting.
  11. Ibrahimovic just had two great chances but Howard saved the first and the second one went off the crossbar.
  12. Based on their recent play, I'd be real happy with either one in the second spot in the order for the time being. 07/30 - 08/21 AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS BABIP Jones 77 8 28 9 0 3 46 18 4 10 0.364 0.395 0.597 0.992 0.391 Kendall 60 10 20 4 1 1 29 14 12 6 0.333 0.452 0.483 0.935 0.358 Yeah but those numbers show that since the 30th of July, Kendall has had far more patience at the plate, so he's clearly the better candidate out of the two to bat in the second spot according to frontloaded lineup construction, OBP-wise. ISoP Kendall: .119 Jones: .031 Totally agree. I think Kendall is perfect for the 2 spot. I would have to say I'd prefer Kendall in the 2 spot with Jacque's power lower down but I'm not going to complain about Jacque being there as long as he's hitting well.
  13. Section 104, Row 22, Seats 9 and 10. It's just up from the Cubs pen so I'm hoping to see Woody warm up and pitch. I'll give you a call when the woman and I get off the BART train. BTW, what do I owe you for my ticket to Thursday's game?
  14. You got to go under the stands to get out of the park?
  15. Based on their recent play, I'd be real happy with either one in the second spot in the order for the time being. 07/30 - 08/21 AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS BABIP Jones 77 8 28 9 0 3 46 18 4 10 0.364 0.395 0.597 0.992 0.391 Kendall 60 10 20 4 1 1 29 14 12 6 0.333 0.452 0.483 0.935 0.358 Well then, I guess I retract my statement that Jacque should be moved lower down. Either way, Kendall deserves to be higher in the order than he is. I'm really liking that Kendall's BABIP isn't ungodly high. I know .358 is high but his stats are going to completely plummet if that comes down to the norm.
  16. I'm still wondering why Kendall continues to bat in the eighth spot especially with Soriano out. Theriot and Kendall should be 1-2 in the order with Jacque lower down.
  17. How many options does a player have and what exactly does it mean when they run out? Yes, this is a serious question.
  18. This guy http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/7578.jpg 7-7, 3.73 ERA, 1.19 WHIP 7-16 vs. Giants: 8 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K in 3-2 Cubs win. vs. This guy http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/6394.jpg 9-11, 4.88 ERA, 1.43 WHIP 7-17 vs. Giants: 7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 8 K in 4-2 Giants win. After good comeback win for the Cubs in the first game of the series (which I thought going in the Cubs were going to lose), the Cubs have now won four of their last five games. They'll face Barry Zito who shouldn't be that tough but is a soft-tossing lefty. In addition to that Rich Hill and his virtually no run support is going for the Cubs. Jason Marquis proved me wrong yesterday so hopefully the Cubs offense can prove me wrong today. I will be in attendance along with CubmanPi and will try to post some pictures once I get back from the game. The game will be on FSN for those of you in Northern California.
  19. isn't that, like, the definition of inconsistent? Like, no it isn't. Telling me a player has been consistent doesn't tell you anything about his production because you could be consistently good or consistently bad. All that matters is that your performances don't fluctuate. A pitcher who allows six earned runs every single time he takes the mound is a consistent pitcher. A pitcher who allows 1 earned run every time out is also a consistent pitcher. I would classify an inconsistent pitcher as one who has two bad outings followed by a good outing followed by a bad outing followed by three good outings, etc. Because Z was bad for two months and then good for two months means he has been, for the most part, consistent. His good outings were mostly lumped together in June and July whereas his bad outings were lumped together in April and May To use some of the stats that Lord of Khemennu used: Z's average game score on the year: 53.9 Z's standard deviation of game scores: 19.3 But to look at it further: Z's average game score in first 12 starts from 4/2 - 6/1: 44.2 Z's standard deviation of game score over that time: 16.7 That shows that he was still a bit inconsistent but no more so than Marshall or Hill and I believe LoK said that "People should shut up about Hill's inconsistency" which would lead me to believe that a StDev of 16.7 isn't too bad. Now let's look at Z from 6/6 - 8/3 Z's average game score in next 12 starts from 6/6 - 8/3: 68.25 Z's standard deviation of game score over that time: 9.95 Yes, 9.95 which is far better than any starter on the Cubs. That is what I would call consistent. sorry, but being really good for a while and then really bad for a while is being inconsistent. i don't know what else you'd call it. Sorry, but you're wrong.
  20. Jim Bottomley on 9/24/1924 and Mark Whiten on 9/7/1993 each had 12 RBI's in a single game. Three players have 11 RBI in a single game and 12 players have 10 in a game.
  21. Just as an FYI, I won't be able to get the next thread up until I get off work around midnight.
  22. Guilty as charged. Sort of guilty. It would have been miserable sitting through those first eight innings.
