  1. First full season (well, mostly full) in the majors: Murton: Age 24, .297/.365/.444/.809 in 508 PA's Harris: Age 26, .284/.341/.425/.766 in 557 PA's Even this year in sporadic playing time Murton has a .751 OPS. Murton has better stats at a younger age. The Cubs got the better of the two prospects.
  2. I know it's womens soccer but... Abby Wambach just had a very nice goal for the US against Sweden. She had a great chest trap off a cross and hit a nice half-volley past the goalie to give the US a 2-0 lead.
  3. Good job, Cubs. Now please, don't give up sole possession of first for the rest of the year.
  4. You and me both. Every big game for Romo will pretty much mean a victory for my fantasy team that week. I had Romo on my fantasy bench last week and he scored 35 points - somehow I still won. Who did you start instead of Romo?
  5. I'll go out on a limb (well, not really) and predict a Raiders loss. I think Culpepper is going to play, though so I'm sort of looking forward to it.
  6. Isn't it most of the same people, anyway?
  7. Another day, another Cardinal loss. I love it.
  8. It would be so great if the Cubs could bury the Cards this weekend.
  9. regardless, dempster puts far too many runners on base to be an effective closer with 1 run leads. The bashing he gets from some is above and beyond what he deserves. I'm not a big fan of his but I'd rather have Marmol be the fireman and Howry set up Dempster. I'd rather have marmol in close situations and dempster in not as close. really the cubs just need another marmol. maybe a lefty who doesn't give up walks or homeruns . . . He's now in the Oakland A's system. I'm hoping to see him this weekend. You going to a River Cats game this weekend?
  10. While the column was pretty funny I have to bring up this point: Guillen's record these four years and the team's place finish: 2007: 61-84 (last) 2006: 90-72 (3) 2005: 99-63 (1) 2004: 83-79 (2) I understand that the Sox choked away a playoff spot last year and that they've been absolutely abysmal but... - The last time the Cubs had back-to-back 90 win seasons was 1929 and 1930. - The Sox have had 90 win seasons in two of the last three years. The last two Cubs winning seasons took place in 1998 and 1989. - The last time the Cubs had three consecutive winning seasons was 1970-72. - 1970-1972 was also the last time the Cubs had 3 successive top three finishes. I'm in no way trying to defend Ozzie by pointing out these facts.
  11. I say this time the Brewers lose and the Cubs win and they get to try out first all alone for a day. Well, the Cubs have their own destiny tomorrow with the Brewers off. In fact, it's kind of strange-for months, the Cubs had played less games then the Brewers. After the next 3 days, the Cubs will have played 2 more games than the Brewers (because of the off day tomorrow for the Brewers and then the doubleheader on Saturday for the Cubs), and then of course the Cubs have those two off days in a week to a week and a half where the Brewers game thread might reach 40 pages. I noticed the exact same thing at work today. It's kind of odd how that works out.
  12. The Astros just went Cub on the Cubs by stranding a runner on third with no outs.
  13. Oh my lord, please tell me this isn't happening. Thank goodness I'm not watching this disaster-in-progress.
  14. I can't possibly express in words how wonderful it is that the Cardinals have remembered that they have a bad team and have now lost 6 in a row.
  15. Has Jay Mariotti written a column on this yet? Because that's one Mariotti column I would like to read.
  16. I think one key of combining the two teams is to make sure Lou is the manager and not Ned Yost.
  17. I haven't seen enough of Braun to judge whether his D is better than Ramirez's. If that's the case, I'd be all for it. From some of Ender's comments about Braun, his defense is below average.
  18. This was sarcasm the first time I said it but this time I mean it.
  19. Jenkins grounded out. Inning over.
  20. Thanks a lot, Pittsburgh.
  21. Definitely not watching this thing although that's because I have to work. Probably wouldn't have watched anyway.
  22. I last saw the score of this game when it was 4-4 in the seventh inning. I predicted to my girlfriend later, before I checked the score again, that the Cubs had lost 5-4 in the 11th inning. Yeah. Good job boys.
  23. A tie could still happen in the Big 10 now without a conference championship game. Wisconsin beats OSU, OSU beats Penn St., Penn St. beats Wisconsin. All have one loss, which one gets the BCS berth?
