MLS All-Star game was so-so tonight. Stadium was really nice. Only quibble was they have the players enter through the walkway under the stands and block the fans from crossing. Cool idea except they won't even let anyone walk up into the stands unless they have a ticket to that specific section (i.e. no going up and walking through sections). So we were stuck underneath for 15 minutes. Good idea, poor execution. Game was slower early but picked up in the second half when most of the Arsenal reserves came in. Could definitely tell they were out there to make an impression. A lot more attacking and more urgency when going forward. I was disappointed to not see the Arsenal players who were in the Euros and Copa. I know it's shortly after that but most of the dudes from the German team showed up to Portland a couple years ago and at least played a bit. Also disappointed in the lack of chants. I know it's an All-Star Game but the Timbers Army did a bunch of chants throughout the game a couple years ago. Not sure what the normal San Jose atmosphere is for games but it wasn't nearly as good as I was expecting. And got to see Wondo send a good chance over the bar about 5 minutes after my dad and I were discussing his blown chance against Belgium.

The Cubs (all teams in MLB) are supposed to have an interpreter on staff. I'm guessing Hank White is the Cubs actual interpreter. So what is Hank White worse at, being a catcher or being an interpreter? I'll go with interpreter since it affects how someone else is perceived. Related note, I went to look up his career stats and started to type in "Hank White" into B-R before I remembered that wasn't actually his name. -

Cubs send the guy who's been their best pitcher over the last couple months to the mound to even the series while the White Sox give James Shields the ball. Shields has actually been really good the last 5 starts (2.10 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP). Hopefully Joe does less dumb stuff in this one than he did today. Go Cubs!

And just think, tomorrow Joe will have 3 relievers who K over 35% of hitters that he can leave on the bench in the 9th inning of a tie game.
