  1. Pretty happy about the draw, both for which teams Spurs Drew and which group they were placed in. I'll be in the UK the week of Matchday 1 and based on past schedules, Celtic will play on Tuesday and Spurs on Wednesday, which was when we were planning on coming back to London anyway. Now I just need to get lucky with the home/road draws.
  2. The difference between the Cubs and the 2nd best team (Texas) is the same as the difference between 2nd and 13th (Miami).
  3. When your Cy Young formula completely omits Bumgarner (2nd ERA, 3rd bWAR, 6th fWAR) and Syndergaard (3rd ERA, 6th bWAR, 2nd fWAR) from your top-10, I think it might be time to rework your formula.
  4. To add on... In 1945 they topped out at 42 games over .500. The 1929 and 1935 teams got to 48 over .500. After that you have to go back to the 1906-1910 teams.
  5. Well this game is off to a nice start.
  6. Yeah, I thought no way he was out. Ump wants to go home apparently.
  7. Shortstops age 22 or younger with 20+ HRs in a season: ARod 3 times (42, 36, 23) Ripken 2 times (28, 27) Tulo (24) Vern Stephens (22) Ron Hansen (22) Carlos Correa (22), though he's at 18 right now Corey Seager (22) Lindor's at 14 so he could get there, though he'd have to have a great last 40 games to do it. So one more HR and Addison will be only the 8th shortstop age 22 or younger to get 20 HRs in a season.
  8. 106 is the number I'm hoping for. One better than the 04 Cards and most in the NL since the 98 Braves also won 106. But anything over 100 would be amazing. 101 would be better than anything other than the 1906-1910 Cubs.
  9. A homer one day and a double the next? Heyward's going streaking!
  10. So by fWAR we've got: Bryant 6.6, on pace for 8.8, age 24 Rizzo 4.5, on pace for 6.0, age 26 Russell 3.3, on pace for 4.4, age 22 Baez 2.1, on pace for 2.8, age 23 Contreras 0.9, pace for 2.7 (if full season), age 24 Even Almora was at 0.7 fWAR in 86 PAs. Oh yeah, and we've got Schwarber 1.9 (fWAR last year in 273 PAs) coming back next year.
  11. Kershaw no longer qualifies for the ERA title so Hendricks now leads the majors with a 2.16 ERA.
  12. That one disaster against St. Louis aside, Edwards has been amazing this year.
  13. I think this qualifies. Thank you, Jaxon!
  14. Jaxon hasn't had his patented blow up inning yet and time is running out.
  15. Less baseball history, more new game thread.
  16. It doesn't matter but man that was a horrendous slide by Zobrist.
  17. I like that the Cubs haven't lost a series yet in the second half (I'm counting the White Sox series as a 4-gamer). Win this one and keep that run alive, please.
  18. This loss lowers the Cubs winning percentage to .824 in August. The difference between the Cubs and the 2nd best team (Nats/Rangers) is the same as the difference between the 2nd and 8th/9th best teams. The difference between the Cubs and Cards (12 games) is 0.5 less than the difference between the Cards and A's (22nd best team).
  19. There we go. Please get a run, offense.
  20. Brian Price is apparently doing bullpen management tonight.
