    So Mets and Cards both win and the Giants are winning (thanks, Brandon McCarthy). Mets would be a game up on SF and 2 up on StL if the results hold, which means the Mets would clinch a WC spot with a win tomorrow. In the AL, Baltimore and Detroit won while Toronto lost. Seattle's also winning so the odds of some crazyness in the AL has increased. If Seattle holds on, Toronto would be 0.5 up on Detroit and 1 up on Seattle.

    Last year the games started at 4:39 and 8:07 CT In 2014, 4:38 and 8:38 CT In 2013, 4:37 and 8:08 CT You are looking at LAD @ WAS and NYM/STL/SF @ Cubs. I'm guessing the Cubs will be the late game oh man i would love that 4:30 start so much but you're probably right Guess you're rooting for the Dodgers to get home field over the Nats. Cubs will definitely have the earlier games if MLB can put LA in the late start.

    So last year we reshuffled the rotation for the playoffs based on W-L record. Everyone ok doing that again or should we go with the best 4 or 5?

    Yeah, the extra games really only affect the Mets. Either they clinch early and Thor goes in the WC game or they don't and Thor can pitch twice if the NLDS goes 5. Cueto could go in a two-way tiebreaker on Monday on short rest or in the second game of a three way tiebreaker Tuesday but they might start him in Game 2 regardless (short rest under the 3-way tie scenario). Bum goes the WC game regardless, as does Martinez.

    Yep. Nats in 5 so they use Scherzer in Game 5 would be ideal.

    I mainly did it because I haven't found a way to search for full season run differential. On B-R, you can search for the first X games of a season, which was fine when we were looking where the Cubs were after 40 games. But if I go the first 162, it only shows teams that played 162 games.

    Cubs won their 101st game tonight, which is the most since the 1910 team won 104. They've also got a run differential of 252, which would be the 6th best over a 162 game season. If they can get to 263, it will be the third best behind only the 98 Yankees (309) and 01 Mariners (300). CUBS are 101-56 when they play a baseball game CUBS are 48-21 in the second half CUBS are 16-9 in September CUBS are 14-3 against the Pirates CUBS are 44-32 on the road CUBS are 20-10 when Arrieta starts Go CUBS !!

    The Cubs won their 100th game tonight, which is the first time they've done that since 1935. One time, when I met up with Fred, he spoke fondly of that season. He said it was a special year for him because he also turned 40 that year. It's pretty fun beating the Pirates so the Cubs should probably do it again. CUBS are 100-56 when they play a baseball game CUBS are 47-21 in the second half CUBS are 15-9 in September CUBS are 13-3 against the Pirates CUBS are 43-32 on the road CUBS are 16-12 when Lackey starts Go CUBS !!

    The pitcher who tried to hit Kang (which started the brawl) got ejected also. Rodriguez is nuts and way over reacted (shocking) but this one is on Washington. Kang deked Harper into a slide into third and Harper got hurt because he couldn't slide properly and wasn't watching his third base coach telling him the throw was wide.

    The win over the Cards gives the Cubs a 10-9 season series victory, which means the Cubs are 16-2-2 in season series this year. I'm not 100% sure, but that sounds pretty good. Lost to the Mets/Rockies and tied with the Braves/White Sox. Cubs wrap up the season on the road against two teams they're a combined 25-6 against this year. I'd like at least 101 wins because it would be the most since the 1906-1910 teams (08 excepted) and 103 would be cool just to not get to 60 losses. CUBS are 99-56 when they play a baseball game CUBS are 46-21 in the second half CUBS are 14-9 in September CUBS are 12-3 against the Pirates CUBS are 42-32 on the road CUBS are 17-11 when Hendricks starts Go CUBS !!

    I feel like with Thor getting pushed back and being scheduled for Tuesday the best case is the Mets win the first WC without having to use him on Sunday and the Giants and Cards tie. That way those two have to play an extra game and the Mets burn Thor in the WC game. Then regardless of which team advances, their best pitcher can't go until Game 3.

    Ugh, I really dislike Sheehan. http://i.imgur.com/lU9ySUf.gif Did he not even bother looking at the schedule. Martinez pitches today and is scheduled for Friday also. That would mean he'd have to go on 2 days rest to pitch Monday or 3 days for Tuesday. If he went short rest Tuesday, to pitch in the first two games of the NLDS, he'd have to go on 2 days rest (Game 1) or 3 days again (Game 2). If Matheny really wants to do that, go for it. Bumgarner is in the same boat. He pitched yesterday and is scheduled for Friday as well. Syndergaard is different now but he was scheduled to pitch yesterday and Friday which would have put him in the same boat as the other two. But Sheehan couldn't have known Syndergaard would be scratched when he wrote that.
