  1. You're giving Buck far too much credit.
  2. The Orioles deserve to lose for Buck's stupidity here.
  3. Hey it's a tie game in the ninth inning of a win or go home game and the other team's 2-3-4 is coming up. Maybe I should use the guy who's got a 0.55 ERA or whatever this year. Nah, horsefeathers it. Got to save him for a save situation.
  4. [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet] He also said he thinks a pitcher has to be historically good to get on an MVP ballot so that eliminates Hendricks and Lester. Obviously Addison won't win it but it will be interesting to see how many ballots he gets named on.
  5. It's like the No. 1 team has about a 1 in 8 shot of winning the title or something. Never would have guessed that.
  6. We're thinking of doing the same thing for a wedding (and maybe the NLCS) in mid October. How is the Wicker Park/Noble Square neighborhood right off the blue line? The area is fine, but youre going to have to transfer to another line or a bus to get to Wrigley via public trans Awesome, thanks for the info! Knew we'd have to take two trains, which wouldn't be a problem. AirBnB's were cheaper out there than downtown.
  7. As long as OMC doesn't get a start, I think everyone will be happy.
  8. So much for St. Louis either losing or winning in a walkoff.
  9. Tigers lose and they're out. Baltimore and Toronto are in. If Toronto wins, no baseball tomorrow because Cleveland will have wrapped up home field over Boston.
  10. Great performance all around. Controlled the entire first half and played well with the lead in the second. The depth is what stands out as the difference from last year. No Kane, Dembele or Dier in the starting lineup? No problem. Insert whichever two of Son/Sissoko/Erickson/Alli/Lamela that wouldn't have started as well as Wanyama. Last year, they didn't have that squad depth and it showed. When Spurs were down, they didn't have much to bring off the bench. It was basically whichever of Erickson/Lamela/Son/Alli didn't start. No extra forward to pair with Kane. I don't know if this team will mount a real title challenge but it's clear that last year was not a fluke. Best start since the 1960-61 season. The defense is still one of the best in the league and the offense can score goals.
  11. Seattle loses and they're eliminated.
  12. I don't think it gets played if the Red Sox win and Indians lose it wouldn't have to be played. In that scenario, Boston would be a 1/2 game up. Even if Cleveland wins the extra game, they're tied and Boston has the tiebreaker. So Cleveland would have to remain 1/2 game up for the game to matter for HFA.
  13. Clemson-Louisville has been very sloppy. 9 total turnovers, 6 of which are Clemson's.
  14. Olney going on about how Britton should win the AL Cy Young got me going down a mini reliever rabbit hole. Britton has a 4.2 bWAR this year which would be tied for 14th (I sorted by G > 40 and IP < 100 to make it so he was compared to relievers who were used like him). His ERA 0.55 was second, behind only Kevin Siegrist's 0.45 in 2013. The leader in bWAR? Jonathan Papelbon, who put up a 5.0 bWAR in 2006. Papelbon had a 0.92 ERA, a 0.776 WHIP and 35 saves. He also received no votes at all in the Cy Young. And it's not like the voters didn't like relievers because KRod and Joe Nathan finished 4th and 5th. Other recents: Fernando Rodney had a 0.60 ERA/0.777 WHIP/48 saves/3.8 bWAR in 2012 and finished 5th in the Cy Young. Wade Davis the last two years was 1.00/0.847/3/3.7 and 0.94/0.787/17/3.4 and was 8th and 6th in the Cy Young those years.
  15. Playoff rotation: at bat: Butterscup (6-3) Sat Oct 29 vs Cleveland on deck: treebird (5-2) in the hold: the rotation: treebird (5-2) beantowncubfan (5-2) David (5-3) sweetpeteman (5-4-1) bukie (4-3) cubscott34 (4-3) SouthSideRyan (2-2) weis21 (2-2) haubrich91 (1-1) ctcf (1-3) Heyward Fan (0-3) The Logan (18-4) UMFan83 (13-5) OleMissCub (9-4) soccer10k (12-5) FRED (1-1) Sammy Sofa (9-5) philosophizer75 (6-2)
  16. Had no idea that after warm ups, the Clemson players all got on buses, drove a couple blocks to another part of the stadium just to run down that hill. Figured the locker room was close by and they just walked over there.
  17. Holy horsefeathers Tennessee Hail Mary to win it.
  18. And now Georgia completes a 47-yard TD pass with 12 seconds left to probably knock off Tennessee.
  19. UNC's kicker just nailed a 54-yard kick to win at Florida State after FSU had scored with less than 30 seconds left.
  20. Too bad Lester didn't tag up on KB's fly out.
  21. Mets win and they'll host the WC game on Wednesday.
  22. We're thinking of doing the same thing for a wedding (and maybe the NLCS) in mid October. How is the Wicker Park/Noble Square neighborhood right off the blue line?
