  1. Because Bynum and Neifi can save the team in non-save situations.
  2. Dylan Johnston was ejected from the Peoria game by the home plate ump. Happened after he was called out on strikes while pinch hitting. Not to jinx him because his night might not be over, but Mitch Atkins has been something else this season (up there with Gallagher, Marmol, Mateo and Wells in terms of performance). Today: 6 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 2/2. On the season: 1.90 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, .187 BAA, 63 Ks, 24 BBs His biggest asset is supposed to be his ability to change speeds and the good location he gets on his pitches, so I wonder how that will hold up against more savy hitters as he goes up the system (a question asked about Gallagher last season).
  3. I'm not sure. A lot will depend on the perceived value at the time of the deadline. I know we couldn't get Billingsly, but I wouldn't mind Joel Guzman or Andre Ethier. Supposedly, Billinsgely and Kemp are as close to untouchable as it gets in that system. Nice to see you again, Hoops! Agreed. He's got all the talent and tools in the world, but he's not improving in the plate discipline department and that will haunt him. He has the power to hang at LF, though.
  4. Some mods have awful Internet connections. :(
  5. It's far easier to handle an inside pitch with an aluminum bat compared to a wood bat. (Didn't see Tyler play today so I can't comment on anything else.)
  6. Correction, YOU hate their guts. I'd trade with them in a heartbeat if it was a good trade. A good trade is a good trade is a good trade reguardless of who its with. (The exception to this rule being certain interdivision trades) And if the deal turns out to be a Garland for Karchner deal, with the Cubs getting the short end of the stick, do you want to deal w/ moronic Sox fans shoving it down your throat?? Uhh, I believe the Cubs get to trade with the White Sox, not their fans. The Garland-for-Karchner trade was bad from the get-go because Karchner was awful. I wouldn't want the Cubs to trade Garland for for Karchner if they were trading with a team from Siberia. The point of a trade is not to get the short end of the stick - it hurts as much to be burned by the Orioles in trades as it does to be burned by the White Sox (if you were giving up the same players fo the same players. The White Sox don't get extra points for burning a so-called rival. By the way, I don't think the Sox would do McCarthy, Fields or Broadway for Howry - and those are the guys I'd want from the Sox.

  8. I believe it's actually Arizona, not ASU. And the Cubs have offered him $500,000.
  9. IMO this outing was very encouraging. After the first he was lights out mostly, and he was sitting at 90-92 consistently. Maybe I'm tired of having such low expectations. You would think we wouldn't have to say that a 3-run performance in 5 innings was lights out for Prior. I really had hoped that the Cubs would finally have a dominant pitching staff with Prior, Wood and Z, but that sure doesn't look like it's going to happen. At least Wood had shoulder surgury. Prior's injury is still a mystery to me. He's rehabbing though. If he was dominating, there's no need for Prior to be visiting the minor league sites. His biggest concern going into this start has been addressed - pitch velocity. He's still coming back.
  10. Ryu gives up a run on a a double and an RBI triple in the top of the 6th and the game is tied at 1. 6 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 8/0, 93 pitches (61 strikes)
  11. Pasadena had the championship. I went (I was a wee little lad of 11 at the time). :)
  12. Midway through the 4th, Iowa still leads 1-0. Ryu has been fantastic so far: 4 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 7/0, 57 pitches (39 strikes) Ryu has been mixing up his pitches, location and speeds very effectively. He's been topping out at around 91-92 mph.
  13. Ok, ok, so a high K rate isn't always a sign of high quality. Cubs starters by VORP: Z 23.6 Marshall 10.9 Maddux 8.0 Wood -0.1 Williams -3.9 Guzman -4.2 Rusch -6.4 Hill -9.3 Wretched -- there's just no kind way to say it. Guess I'd bring back Jerome -- anyone know how he's doing? I'd bring back Hill and see if a string of consecutive starts will help him out. Otherwise, wait out a month or so and I think Guzman will be ready.
  14. The Famous Chicken is now coaching at first base for the I-Cubs. Through 3 for Ryu: 3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 5/0, 42 pitches (30 strikes)
  15. Here's what I have: 3 IP, 3 ER, 4 H, 2/0, 45 pitches (30 strikes) Good recovery after the first.
  16. by droped I meant a shallow hit, not a line drive more of a bloop hit Oh, gotcha.
  17. We have a Prior game thread here (Premium). Midway through the 2nd, the I-Cubs lead it 1-0, thanks to a 2-out Restovich triple and then a Hoffpauir RBI single in the first. Ryu: 2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 4/0, 29 pitches (20 strikes)
  18. Not ruled an error? (Switched over to the Ryu/I-Cubs game.)
  19. Did Ron give any other pitch speeds (just started listening myself...thanks, Brian)?
