  1. In Daytona, apparently Veal's nickname is "The Real Deal." As in, Donnie "The Real Deal" Veal. I personally like THE DON! much more.
  2. For the second straight game, WT and Carolina are in extras, thanks to 1 in the 8th and 2 in the 9th. In the 8th: With no outs, Scott Moore singled, Jake Fox doubled and Brandon Sing singled in Moore. But the Jaxx left Fox and Sing on. In the 9th: Gary Cates singled, Richard Lewis was hit by a pitch, Brian Dopirak walked and then the red-hot Jake Fox got a 2-RBI double to tie the game. We're in the bottom of the 10th, all knotted up at 7. Fox is 4 for 5 with 3 doubles. Dopirak is still 2 for 3 and now has 2 walks.
  3. He looked real good in UCLA blue (and gold...of course the only pics I have are in black and white). :) http://www.dailybruin.ucla.edu/db/issues/00/02.11/images/sports.baseball.picA.jpg http://www.dailybruin.ucla.edu/db/rcissues/00/06.05/images/sports.baseball.picA.jpg http://www.dailybruin.ucla.edu/db/rcissues/00/06.02/images/sports.draft.picA.jpg
  4. I'm not a big expert on the draft so I can't really project where he'd go, but Horton(the UNC SS) didn't declare because he isn't old enough. He was a Sophomore this year, so if he wants he can enter next year if he wishes. so once you enter college you have to stay until after your junior year? Sophomores who are 21 or older (or within 45 days of 25) are eligible too. This is how Tim Lincecum was eligible last season too. Otherwise, you have to be a JUCO (any age) or a junior/senior in college. I don't know if it's a wise idea to have Miller up in September, no matter how he does in the minors. It's definitely not a good idea to have him relieve in the minors now itself (whether or not he's a reliever this September). He'd do better to get all the innings he can get now.
  5. Daytona wins it 11-2. Peoria loses 4-2.
  6. On the power of those 2 HRs, Iowa leads it 3-0 in the 8th. West Tenn is down 6-4 in the 7th. Dope is 2 for 3 with a double, walk and a strikeout. Shaver gave up all 6 runs in 5.1. Daytona leads it 11-1 in the 8th. Peoria down to their last outs in the 9th, down 4-2. Santo gave up the 4 runs in relief of Wade Miller.
  7. Stupid Jeff Clement took 6 pitches to get out. ERA down to 4.04. :)
  8. Matt Craig with a 2-run bomb to make it 11-1 after 7. Craig is now 1 for 1 with the HR and 4 BBs. Guzman: 6 IP, 0 R, 3 H, 1 BB, 6 K. He's out there for the 7th.
  9. I agree, a healthy Guzman is better than the other young guys in the system.
  10. Veal's night is over: 6.2 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K. With runners at the corners and one out, the D-Cubs get a FC on a potential DP ball. The ball was thrown away on the relay. The runner scored easily from third and the guy who hit the ball advanced to second on the error. Hunton comes in and gets the K. Daytona is up 9-1 in the middle of the 7th.
  11. In the 7th, Veal gets a leadoff K, loses the next hitter to a walk after getting ahead 1-2 and then gives up a single. Runners at the corners and a mound visit for Donnie. Hunton gets up in the Daytona pen.
  12. WT has been having some major problems with their online broadcasts. Check out this thread for some more details on what's going on.
  13. And Garza was/is more advanced because of the longer college career. Apparently Veal's pitch count is so good that he might have a chance at a CG.
  14. I think Billy Petrick would be a perfect candidate for that since he missed a lot of time this season.
  15. I have no problem either way, but if the Cubs promote him, I'd want him to only have a couple starts at West Tenn. Again, I think it comes down to the playoff situation (if the minor league seasons ended today, Daytona would be in and West Tenn would be out of the playoffs).
  16. I'll be happy if it's only two weeks: Ugh, figured it'd happen to the star of camp:
  17. Did you even see the hit? Brown barely touched him, Urlacher's hit wasn't that bad and what I'd expect of practice. It really didn't look that bad, I hope it's not too serious.
  18. I could see that, a la Gallagher and Patterson last season. The playoff picture really muddles the situation a bit - all the minor league teams have a chance to clinch and the Cubs do like to get their players playoff/winning experience. Veal still needs to cut down on his walks.
  19. Zambrano, Barrett, Ramirez, Jones vs. righties, Lee (even though he's injured) That qualifies as "some," doesn't it? Herzog's talking about the front office/coaches.
  20. O'Malley: 64/25, 1.33 WHIP Shaver: 102/46, 1.33 WHIP Shaver overall: 112/46, 1.26 WHIP Veal: 47/26, 1.17 WHIP Veal overall: 133/66, 1.16 WHIP Miller: 11/2, 1.29 WHIP Billek: 14/9, 1.70 WHIP Billek overall: 49/20, 1.24 WHIP Carillo: 14/4, 1.01 WHIP Sorry UK, I thought you were gonna see Atkins.
  21. Probable Starters: Iowa: LHP Ryan O'Malley (5-7, 4.03 ERA, 111.2 IP) vs. LHP Bobby Livingston (6-8, 5.05 ERA) WT: LHP Chris Shaver (5-7, 2.59 ERA, 114.2 IP; overall: 5-7, 2.41 ERA, 123.1 IP) Daytona: LHP Donnie Veal (3-2, 1.17 ERA, 46 IP; overall: 8-5, 2.11 ERA, 119.2 IP) vs. RHP Kyle Sleeth (0-2, 8.00 ERA) Peoria: RHP Wade Miller (rehab: 0-0, 3.21 ERA, 14 IP) @ RHP Trey Shields (9-8, 4.91 ERA) Boise: RHP Mike Billek (1-2, 7.39 ERA, 35.1 IP; overall: 5-8, 7.00 ERA, 88.2 IP) @ Aaron Breit (0-1, 3.60 ERA) Mesa: RHP Marco Carillo (2-0, 1.99 ERA, 22.2 IP) *Take Mesa's probable starter with a grain of salt as they shuffle their pitchers around with frequency.
  22. MWL: Best Reliever: Ed Campusano Best Defensive First Baseman: Ryan Norwood
  23. And that's the final, Boise loses 1-0. Colvin had the day off, Lewis went 2 for 4 with a double, Mercedes and Camp went 1 for 4 with a double each.
  24. Iowa lost 4-1. Pie went 1 for 4. West Tenn and Carolina are all knotted up at 5 in the 13th inning. The Jaxx have used 7 pitchers so far. Daytona won 7-4. Petrick actually faced the first 3 hitters in the 6th inning, and all 3 of them scored. His final line is: 5+ IP, 3 ER, 8 H, 5 Ks. Peoria won 3-2. Yepez went 6 and gave up 2 unearned runs. Boise down 1-0 after 7.
  25. 1-0 Daytona in the bottom of the 4th, 4 shutout innings so far from Petrick (but 4 hits surrendered).
