  1. It's a long season and they haven't done well early in the season before - now they have more new guys and rookies, it should be expected that they'll start slow. They aren't in the East's elite.
  2. Might as well put this here: the Boise Hawks will keep their name but change their logo. http://minorleaguebaseball.com/images/2006/11/15/u4vG65pI.jpg
  3. Lee won't be productive at Wrigley. The only reason I think Westbrook can be is that he doesn't give up flyballs. Hence the hits per 9 is less worrisome. Makes more sense to have that Izturis-DeRosa MIF with a guy like Westbrook.
  4. By the way, the Cubs have 4 catchers on their 40-man roster right now and might be looking to add a fifth in Jake Fox...I hope they take Reyes off now.
  5. But he's going from Safeco to Wrigley and the AL West (Seattle, Oakland and Anaheim are pitcher's parks) to the NL Central. He's a good guy to take a risk on. He has good stuff. But his price tag is going to be pretty expensive - I'd at least take a look at Schmidt first and fail at going after him before moving to the Meche tier of FA pitchers.
  6. Yeah, no kidding.
  7. Hanshin was supposedly waiting for the whole Matsuzaka thing to get figured out so that the teams that lost out on the Matsuzaka might also enter the bidding. So any day now?
  8. Tigres win 3-1, box: CF B. Coats 0/1 - came in the game as a defensive replacement in the 8th inning SS R. Cedeño 1/4, K (10) Leones win 5-2. box: C H. Blanco 1/3, R, BB (5) Overall: Buck Coats (Tigres): 18/77, .234/.306/.364/.670, 1 HBP, 7 BB, 11 K, 3 HR, 1/1 SB Ronny Cedeño (Tigres): 8/42, .190/.227/.214/.441, 1 HBP, 1 BB, 10 K, 0/2 SB Henry Blanco (Leones): 15/69, .217/.280/.362/.642, 1 HBP, 5 BB, 7 K, 1/1 SB
  9. Mike Cameron has a career 79% SB rate and a career .090 IsoD, so you can't really say he doesn't take too many walks or steal bases at a good rate.
  10. Looks like I've found one other Cub minor leaguer who's gotten a bit of playing time down in the DR: RHP Joel Santo (Escogido): 2 G, 2 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 1 K/1 BB, 9.00 ERA, 2.00 WHIP And Jose Reyes hasn't had any ABs in about a week: 8/29, .276/.276/.414/.690, 1 2B, 1 HR, 0 BB, 2 K
  11. Tigres beat the Estrellas 7-6, box: CF F. Pie 0/1, SB (4) - came in as a defensive replacement in the 8th inning Overall: 17/72, .236/.257/.292/.549, 1 HBP, 1 BB, 14 K, 4 2B, 4/4 SB
  12. Culiacan wins 11-3, box: 3B C. McGehee 0/3, RBI (22), BB (14) Overall: 32/104, .308/.390/.462/.852, 3 HR, 7 2B, 14 BB, 10 K, 0/1 SB, 6 E
  13. Ehh, probably somewhere around there. They have one good player (Pendergraph).
  14. And those same people seemed rather ecstatic at the Cubs getting the deal done. The statement was that certain posters criticize *any and every* move the Cubs make...I saw two examples of that being false on Sunday.
  15. The Board of Directors had to get together and agree to it. $42 Million should take about 10 minutes to agree to. Doesn't mean it takes 10 minutes for them to get together. Doesn't mean it takes 6 days to get together either. If they are trying to prove the validity of the offer, thats fine, but they are not "milking" it for media attention as someone else speculated. They knew when the deadline was a few weeks ago, they could have picked the date for the meeting to accept a while ago. If anyone seems to be milking it, I think it'd be MLB.
  16. I guess you missed Sunday, when everyone was oh-so-critical of Aramis and Kerry re-signing.

  19. Agreed. Coulda gone after Iwamura. Could go after Loretta instead, who'll be cheaper than Durham.
  20. Mesa lost 14-5, box: 2B E. Patterson 0/5, R, 3 K (15) LF S. Moore 1/4, R, 2 K (26) C J. Fox 0/2, R, BB (3), HBP, PB (3) RP C.
