  1. SUNDAY: DR beat Puerto Rico 12-0, box: Venezuela beat Mexico 13-3, box: SS R. Cedeño 1/5, R, K (3) Overall: 5/15, 1 2B, 1 BB, 3 K, 1 SB, 1 E
  2. Might as well create it since that's what the Super Bowl thread has become and I hate that thread already. What do you want to see the Bears do, whether it's in free agency or the draft? - Gotta re-attain Briggs unless it will hurt the Bears in re-signing Tommie Harris down the road. Also re-sign Ian Scott. - Figure out the TJ/Benson situation. How bad is Cedric's injury? - Figure out what to do with the safety position/Mike Brown (re-structure Brown and add another safety to the competition, preferably...hopefully D. Manning can progress to adequate) - I'd also look into moving Wale. - Address OL, S, LB if Briggs is gone, RB if TJ is gone in the draft and free agency. Rex is at the age and experience where QBs normally show what they will be at their prime. He's had a full season of experience - he needs to progress next season to show he can be a starter in his prime - limit his mistakes and the damage in his bad games, etc.
  3. I hope not. There are holes at other places and those two QBs have warts that will take too long to fix, hopefully Grossman improves but I'd definitely give him next year to progress.
  4. Yup, best to judge a quarterback after his first full season of play. Unfortunately, many of Rex's flaws are not ones that are easily corrected, IMO. He has little poise under pressure, throws off his back foot too much, has poor pocket awareness, and seems to have an obstinate attitude regarding his flaws. Personally, I have always been very patient when it comes to developing players, like Corey Patterson, for example. But I see little in Rex Grossman that inspires confidence that he will develop into anything other than a league average QB, at best. And given his set of flaws, I think that would take 2-3 years to achieve. The Bears' overall talent level puts them in a position to win again next year, and perhaps the next, but the window will not be open forever. If I am Angelo, I move to add some stability to the offense. He's a free agent after next season, I don't see the need to do anything now to replace him.
  5. I always thought a player had three option years. Was that a change in the new CBA? A draftee gets four option years if he's signs a major league contract. Otherwise, it's still three option years.
  6. Yup, best to judge a quarterback after his first full season of play. I put a question mark after Grossman's name. Whoops, my bad. Grossman has certainly done more good than those other QBs though.

  8. You'd think the Bears just lost the Super Bowl or something. The uncalled for sarcasm aside, being a fan doesn't give you the right to flat out make ridiculous excuses and badmouth the other team. The AFC has been dominant all season and I don't know why many of you are so surprised. Nothing happened in this game that hasn't happened all year long, for either team. Edit: What is your deal anyway TT? I can count on one hand the seconds it takes you to reply with condescension to whatever it is I may post. Is this all about sabrmetrics? *hug* It happens when your team has just lost the championship - a game they certainly could have won.
  9. Just wondering, the only place I've heard about it is here, why all the sudden talk of Lovie leaving? I know he wants a new contract, but he's still got a year left, right? There were rumors the Cowboys were interested. He does have one year left.
  10. I was 3 at the Super Bowl, so I'm not as lucky as you. At least I'll always have MJ and the Bulls...hopefully I'll see another team I root for win. But now that I've seen 3 of my teams come close and lose, I guess it's not going to be too likely. I was only 9, but my dad purchased a tape of the highlights of that year and I appreciate them more now than I did back then. I was 8-10 and 13-15 during the repeat three peats, thank goodness for the DVDs and videos because I really didn't appreciate the first three as much as I should have.

  12. You think the Cubs are going to help your sorrows? I was excited for baseball up until tonight, now I don't even care. Exactly.
  13. I'd be satisfied with Benson as the full time RB. Having both is nice, but losing Jones would hardly be devastating. There are bigger fish to fry. As long as there's a solid #2 option to get some carries or a third down back (and Benson is ok - I hope he didn't have a lasting injury today). I really think AP could be that guy. Him and Benson are too similar, IMO. They seem to like the concept of a change of pace back, they'll just switch from finesse to power to power to finesse. I like AP a lot but this is the reason why you need a different guy.
  14. I'd be satisfied with Benson as the full time RB. Having both is nice, but losing Jones would hardly be devastating. There are bigger fish to fry. Jones will be paid as a feature back for some other team's offense, I assume. I would go with Irons in the 2nd rd. if he's there. I'd love Irons too - not big enough/durable enough to be an everydown player and he should be there in the 2nd. Of couse they have bigger fish to fry with a second round pick.

  16. And UCLA last April. Dammit, I hate sports.
  17. They should put the franchise tag on Briggs, but I dont see that happening. I believe Ed Reed is going to be a FA at safety. The Bears need a safety, IMO. They're going to have to draft a line backer, a HB, possibly even a tight end, and a OL in the draft. Adding Ed Reed would make the defense filthy. I didn't think Reed was an FA. Asante Samuel is though, I wouldn't mind adding him and shifting Tillman. I don't see Asante keeping up his play going forward, I'd rather keep Tillman at corner.
  18. Turner, Rivera, Benson's injury, the offensive line, Grossman, the whole bloody defense. I find it hard to fault the defense too much considering they spent the whole game on the field. The defensive play calling was too soft, but they were doing a good job of keeping Manning & Co. in check (outside of Harris' brain fart) until they just go tired. That trend can be traced back into the regular season as well. I agree, but the frount four and the safeties (not shocking about the safeties) didn't play that great. I'll assume the missed tackles were due to the poor field conditions/tired defense, but still, it wasn't pretty.
  19. Most of the media and Bears fans are morons, so I doubt they'll look at it objectively. He had a bad game, he's had several of them and several great games, enough glimpses of great games to merit seeing what he can do with more experience. He played terribly in the Super Bowl after whining about being criticized. Believe this like you believe in life itself: Rex is about to be crucified to all hell. He stood up and took the criticism all freaking year, I don't think too many people in the world could go as long he did without snapping.
  20. Turner, Rivera, Benson's injury, the offensive line, Grossman, the whole bloody defense.
