Maddon just played that small ball-leave your better outfield in to face the deathman. He wanted Almora's glove because the big 3 couldnt get it done. We're just worn out Sharma just responded to me on Twitter I think the save thing is semantics. Davis was basically just unavailable. I wish Joe would've just said that instead of invoking the "save" part of the equation. He shouldn't have warmed up in the top of the 9th if he was unavailable.
Do you see the problem here? Here’s the thing. Wades arm is about to fall off. And they haven’t hit worth horsefeathers for the entire playoffs. Roll the dice with lackey who’s been ok lately. That's horsefeathering stupid. You send your best pitcher out, especially against their best hitter, not one of your worst. The goal is to extend the game and give your offense a chance.
Well, going to Q and Lester on short rest is gonna blow up in the Cubs' face. Of course, I'm not sure starting Lackey and Q on normal rest would've been better.
I'm really interested in seeing how Clifton and Underwood Jr do when they're moved to the bullpen. I think there's a good reliever in there between those two. Also think de la Cruz is destined for the bullpen given his health issues but he could be a really good high leverage late inning reliever. For some reason, I really like Craig Brooks. Ricky Tyler Thomas (2017 7th rounder out of Fresno State) should move fast and might be knocking on the door by 2019. He's the only lefty reliever I really find interesting in the system right now. Obviously Maples has all the potential in the world but that control is iffy and I'm really annoyed by all the walks in the bullpen right now. They'e gonna have to buy some relief help this offseason. Shaw would be nice but will be expensive. Nicasio, Reed and Kintzler seem like nice, cheaper options (and obviously they have to re-sign Davis).
