  1. The idea that you should just never sign a big FA because the backend of the deal is never worth it is just ... it's something I'm shocked to hear from Kenny as he doesn't seem like a Take Guy. Really? For some reason, I'm not shocked.
  2. Jon Lester, Game 4 starter, sure has a nice ring to it.
  3. [tweet] [/tweet]What a shitty deal from Yu's perspective.
  4. [tweet] [/tweet] It's Heyman but still.
  5. Aramis Ademan was one of BA's 25 prospects who just missed their top 100. Each of the BA writers came up with their own personal top 150 lists. Each of Adbert Alzolay, Aramis Ademan, Dillon Maples, José Albertos, Thomas Hatch and Victor Caratini showed up in at least one top 150 list. https://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/ask-ba-who-just-missed-the-top-100-prospects-list-2/?amphtml=1&__twitter_impression=true
  6. Nelson Velázquez (Lower-Level Outfielders), Dillon Maples (Close-to-the-Big-Leagues Relievers) and Victor Caratini (Utility Players) mentioned in Fangraphs' Lower Ranked Prospects they love: https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/heres-some-lower-ranked-prospects-we-love/
  7. I don't think they have Zips built into the comparisons yet, but we rank 6th behind Yankees, Dodgers, Brewers, Astros & Indians http://www.fangraphs.com/depthcharts.aspx?position=RP Link actually has the Cubs 5th, ahead of Cleveland.
  8. If everything else was equal, maybe he wanted to be reunited with Bosio more than return to the Cubs.
  9. That was an impressive come-from-ahead loss. And I loved Robin Lopez' ejection.
  10. Just got the book too. Pretty excited.
  11. Matt Miller 7-round mock: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2757373-2018-nfl-mock-draft-matt-millers-post-super-bowl-predictions?share=twitter 1.8: OG Quenton Nelson, Notre Dame 2.39: WR Christian Kirk, Texas A&M 4.101: EDGE Hercules Mata'afa, Washington State 5.136: DL BJ Hill, North Carolina State 6.167: OT Joseph Noteboom, TCU 7.198: CB Deatrick Nichols, South Florida
  12. No Cubs on Fangraphs' top 100 list (a combined effort between Kiley McDaniel and article Longenagen): https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2018-top-100-prospects/ Eloy is 6, Gleyber 12, no Cease.
  13. The 2018 Cubs ZiPS projections are out: https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2018-zips-projections-chicago-cubs/
  14. BP's Top 100 is out: https://www.baseballprospectus.com/prospects/article/37535/baseball-prospectus-top-101-prospects-2018-top-mlb-prospects-ronald-acuna-victor-robles-vladimir-guerrero-jr-eloy-jimenez/ Adbert Alzolay is the only Cub, coming in at 95. Gleyber is 3, Eloy 6, Cease 47.

  16. Still a lot of time left.
  17. College kickers.
  18. Hope the Bears can get a receiver as good as Alshon some day.

  20. Agree with most of this though I’d think small market teams would have major push back on shortening control. Another big thing that should be changed is tying draft position to spending, teams should be able to spend what they want and the current set up really incentivized losing since finishing a few spots lower increases spending ability rather significantly Small market teams can suck it. Their owners are rich too. If they truly can't afford the cost of business of owning an MLB team, they should sell their team.
  21. I mean, he supposedly signed all of Lester, Heyward, Zobrist and Lackey without having the biggest offer on the market so that might be why he thinks he can do it again. (That's assuming he is offering a significantly smaller offer than competitors.)
  22. I don't know who between David or N&G gets credit for that subject title but that definitely is an all-time great.
  23. Mark Appel is taking an "indefinite break" from baseball. If he doesn't return and make it to the majors, he'd become the third number 1 overall pick to never make it to the big leagues. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2757009-why-mark-appel-perhaps-the-biggest-bust-in-mlb-history-is-retiring-at-26
  24. That's 1.1 material...at least until the TJS: [tweet] [/tweet]
