  1. I agree. I was willing to give Brian the benefit of the doubt after last season when it was a 2-month slump. Now it's over 3 months. In fairness to Dopirak, Moore is repeating high class-A ball after hitting .223/.322/.384 last year. I do ago that their relative ages is a point in Moore's favor, though. The age is what tipped me in favor of Scott Moore, but I still think they're close in ranking as prospects. There's no way Moore (or most players) can come close to what Dopirak did last year, and I think that gives Dopirak a lot of leeway this season.
  2. Thanks for joining us, Nathan!
  3. Which of the Jaxx pitchers enjoys hitting the most? Who's the best? Thanks, Ron!

  5. I didn't like the trade, but I for one won't complain about Scott Moore.
  6. Iowa: LHP Raul Valdez (5-2, 4.17 ERA) vs. TBA West Tenn: RHP Jae-Kuk Ryu (7-4, 3.57 ERA) @ RHP Tony Pena (2-8 5.50 ERA) Daytona: RHP Anderson Tavarez (3-7, 5.57 ERA)@ RHP Jordan Tata (6-2, 2.69 ERA) Peoria: RHP Sean Gallagher (8-2, 1.55 ERA) vs. RHP Ryan Webb (3-7, 4.39 ERA) Boise: RHP Mike Billek (0-1, 0.00 ERA, 4.2 IP) - 2005 3rd round pick
  7. I think UK has said a thing or two on this subject in the past. :P
  8. Apparently game 1 will be on ESPN. 30% chance of showers at the start of game 1.
  9. Not necessarily.
  10. Severe Tornado warning??? I've never heard of that. I thought there were only Severe thunderstorm watch, severe thunderstorm warning, and then tornado watches and warnings..... huh. There are watches for both tornados and severe thunderstorms, and there are warnings. Watches are for a broad region, warnings are for a more localized region (like a county). Tornado warnings are generally issued only when a tornado has been spotted by someone on the ground or the radar shows it. Looking again, apparently the Atlanta area is only under a watch, but the storms moving towards Atlanta have been given tornado warnings as they traverse through Alabama. EDIT: For some reason I added the word "severe." You're right, it's just plain tornado warning.
  11. wow. Hopefully everyone will be safe, there's no question that this game is going to be postponed. If they want to play with more than one delay and late into the night, they could try. Certainly there will be a delay of over an hour if the game was scheduled to start at 6:05 CT.
  12. Welcome to the board! You're up in San Jose, eh? Cool.
  13. Severe tornado warning for Atlanta. Severe thunderstorms possibly with tornadoes aiming for Atlanta within the next hour.
  14. I'm sure its temporary. Gammons said he anticipated it would be for the year and compared Schilling to Smoltz.
  15. But it's not justy Dusty. A lot of managers do that with their young lefties. If these guys are supposed to be a key part of the future, they have to learn to hit lefties too. Might as well start now and give them some practice.
  16. It's all over ESPN. Apparently Francona seems to think Schilling can't repeat his deliver for 100 pitches but can for an inning or so, so he's headed to the pen and might close.
  17. HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Neifi and Jose at 1 and 2. All I can do is laugh. Thank goodness I get to work through this game. What did Hairston do to Dusty or Darren to get to sit behind Macias!?
  18. I doubt that. Peter plays close attention to the minor leagues and knows most teams' best prospects. He wrote about Pie and Murton a few times earlier this season. And if he was a GM I think he'd be very much willing to callup top prospects to fill needs. But I don't think the Cubs would have done that. Agreed. Peter Gammons knows his prospects alright, I just question his sources on this one. I doubt the Cubs would add Felix to the 40-man and call him unless it's September.
  19. Lovely piece. Something to keep in mind when considering Dopirak and Harvey (especially Harvey):
  20. Here goes: C Mark Reed, Boise 1B Brian Dopirak, Daytona 2B Eric Patterson, Peoria SS Ronny Cedeño, Cubs 3B Scott Moore, Daytona LF Matt Murton, West Tenn CF Felix Pie, West Tenn RF Ryan Harvey, Peoria Bench: C Geovany Soto, Iowa 1B/OF Brandon Sing, West Tenn 1B/3B Matt Craig, West Tenn SS Buck Coats, West Tenn 2B/3B Mike Fontenot, Iowa OF Adam Greenberg, West Tenn Rotation: LHP Mark Pawelek, Mesa RHP Angel Guzman, ?? (DL) LHP Sean Marshall, West Tenn LHP Rich Hill, Iowa RHP Billy Petrick, Daytona (DL) Bullpen: Closer: RHP Jason Wylie, Daytona Primary set-up: RHP David Aardsma, West Tenn RHP Jermaine VanBuren, Iowa RHP Randy Wells, Daytona RHP Carlos Marmol, West Tenn LHP Renyel Pinto, West Tenn Glaring omission: RHP Sean Gallagher, Peoria :o EDIT: I just saw your edit. These are the guys I think have the highest ceilings at each position, these aren't the guys I think will necessary have the most success at the big league level. I'll have to think more carefully about that.
  21. Ok, I'm confused here. What do you mean by "maximum realistic ceiling"? Odds of player achieving his ceiling in the big leagues? Or should I just be picking the top ceiling per position throughout the minors? This should be fun. *Question edited, but I got my answer.
  22. I guess I'll get the questions started, then. Three of the best curves in the system have passed through Jackson at various times this season. How would you compare Rich Hill, Carmen Pignatiello and Sean Marshall's curveballs? I know Sean Marshall throws a sinking fastball and that curve. Does he throw his other two pitches in games (slider and change)? And if so, how good are they and is he comfortable with throwing them in games? Thanks, Ron!
  23. Just a reminder, the video broadcast of today's Boise game (and all Boise home games) can be seen on their web site (http://www.boisehawks.com). Hopefully I'm back home from work in time to get a chance to watch Darin Downs continue to dominate the NWL.
  24. Ron Potesta has graciously agreed to do another Q & A on the Diamond Jaxx broadcast this Thursday, July 7th (weather permitting). Ask away in this thread...
