  1. The theory would be that the longer he is out due to the knee, his pitching related delay increases exponentially. It's not a 1 for 1 situation, where if you miss 1 day, you take 1 extra day to prepare. What he's saying is everyday he misses could setback his recovery from his shoulder. It would erase the progress to date and force him to almost start over where he was a week to 10 days prior to the surgery. But I think he was saying "as much as a month" meaning worst case scenario. If he can't do much throwing for 10 days (doubtful, from what I can tell) then 10 days after the surgery he would essentially be where he was several days prior to the surgery, and would then have to start from that point moving forward. I also think that was taking into account the idea that Wood might have started by mid-April, something I always thought was doubtful. I thought Woody was only missing one day of "pitching"/arm strength throwing? I thought tomorrow he will be throwing from a chair to maintain arm strength and then when he can put pressure on the leg he will play flat footed long toss etc. That would still put him behind compared to someone throwing on their feet.
  2. Here's another question about Randy Wells for you, Ron. Wells has a fastball, a slider and a change and apparently has been working on a sinker and two-seamer (according to cubs.com). I was wondering if you had seen him throw the sinker or two-seamer last year and how would you rate all the pitches he has thrown in games. Do you think Randy's major league career is in the pen or in the starting rotation?
  3. Tuesday, March 7
  4. UCLA women win the Pac-10 tourney, upsetting Stanford! :) Pac-10 Mens awards: Player of the Year: Brandon Roy, Washington Freshman of the Year: Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, UCLA Coach of the Year: Ben Howland, UCLA Arron Afflalo and Jordan Farmar made the All-Pac-10, Luc Richard Mbah a Moute was an honorable mention. Luc Richard Mbah a Moute made the all-freshman team, Darren Collison was an honorable mention (no clue why Alfred Aboya didn't make honorable mention on the all-freshman team).
  5. I guess the lesson is that you shouldn't trust anyone online who says they go to UCLA. I know 2 Victorias who went to UCLA with me. And yes, don't trust me.
  6. Wow, hey Len! Time to check out the game on TiVo.
  7. LA is better for non beach touristy things to do. San Diego is better for beach touristy things to do. In other words, if you are bringing her to play in the sand, San Diego is probably the better place. San Diego also features Legoland, Sea World and our world famous zoo. LA definitely has more things going on, but for small kids, IMO, San Diego is probably a better vacation destination. Disneyland isn't far from LA or San Diego, either. In fact, it's VERY close to Anaheim Stadium. Thanks. We're definitely looking at the SD zoo. She loves zoos and her b-day party this year is at our local zoo. I'm hoping to make a number of trips that way as I want to catch a baseball game in every park that way. If I plan a larger vacation around it, my wife is more amenable to the idea. The San Diego Wild Animal Park out in Escondido is a blast too.
  8. Just got in and saw. Winning 13-2, very impressive. And that's a sweep against the Wolfpack! :D
  9. Oddly enough, I've seen a lot of Illini fans criticizing Dee Brown and calling him overrated (and I agree with them). Of course that must make me a hater, even though I don't care about some school in downstate Illinois.
  10. I would like to go to Staples to check out the Pac-10 tourney, but UCLA is playing during the day on Thursday (what's up with having the #1 seed play at 2 in the afternoon??). Maybe the final on Saturday if the Bruins get there.
  11. Excuse me but, shouldn't he be pitching? For what reason do they keep pushing him back? ST games have now started and he's still not throwing to hitters! The only pitchers I see still not throwing are pitchers that are hurt. Not saying he is hurt, but there is something definitely going on here and the Cubs don't seem to be honest about it, big surprise. I think this is slightly past the "oh, but there's nothing to be worried about" stage, cuz quite honestly, if you're not, you should be. I know I am.It simply is not normal for a MLB Pitcher at this stage of camp to not even be throwing to hitters and to be "delayed". I don't see the point in getting bent out of shape now over this news - this isn't worthy of actually getting worked up about. Either you should be worried already about why Prior hasn't faced live batters (like you are) or not be worried yet. I can't see how this is the tipping point.
  12. He didn't sign in time to play in the system last year. He'll start the year at Peoria or Daytona.
  13. So they pushed him back a couple of days and Paul Sullivan freaks out. Sounds about right for Sullivan.
  14. I'll have to TiVo the game, I have work. :(
  15. But now I've graduated!! I'll definitely check out a few games this year. EDIT: Not sure where my last post went.
  16. Per the OC Register, he topped out at 95 or 96 last week. Let me see if I can find a link. He's been getting quite some love in the local papers, I was just surprised to see him projected in the first round. He looks thinner than Marshall in the pics I've seen.
  17. Latos sounds intriguing (I've read a little something about Drabek, Walden and Jeffress too). What are your thoughts on Chris Tillman?
  18. After the top 3 (and Miller IF he is healthy), none of those guys are starters for a playoff team, and that's what our focus should be. I'm more upset that Hendry didn't land us a #3 or #4 starter this offseason as I am with the JJ signing. How many starters does a playoff team need come playoff time? The Cubs have enough depth right now to plug in some pitchers to try and get 5th-starter production.
  19. I'll be in that part of the stadium on Wednesday. I love getting the pavillion seats by the Cubs bullpen, there are so many Cubs fans around (plus the $8/seat is very tempting - it used to be $6 till this year).
  20. Psh, I beat you to it already. And I spelled it correctly. :P
  21. Hopefully guys like Marshall and Marmol will come in from the pen tomorrow. And we should see one of Dope or Sing start at 1B. :)
  22. It would be nice if one of the UNC pitchers, Stubbs, Scherzer or Kennedy fell to the Cubs at 13, but it doesn't look probable right now. Don't know much about the HS kids outside the local ones (Tillman, Rapoport, Stoffel, Parmelee). By the way, a BA projected first round from February had the Cubs taking Georgia Tech 3B Wes Hodges.
  23. Consecutive wins over top-20 teams. :) Beat NC State again out in Raleigh!
