  1. Randy Wells, former catcher who was converted to pitcher. He has both started and relieved and was at high-A and double A last year. Should probably start at AA, I think he has the potential to be a solid big league closer. Has a low-90s FB, slider and change.
  2. Primed for breakout = Luis Montanez? Uhh.. :newugh:
  3. http://www.live365.com/stations/iowacubs?site=iowacubs This is where the I-Cubs had their online broadcast last year. Bah.
  4. BTW, how cool is this: Link !!! Wow!
  5. Ugh, I see what you mean. How disappointing.
  6. Do you know anything in regards to being able to listen to Iowa games online? When I clicked the multimedia link it sent me to Minor League Baseball Multimedia. The only problem is that the MiLB site is yet to list Iowa on the list of teams you can listen to online. We could listen to the regular season games live off the iowacubs.com website last year.
  7. The Bears. Well done. And thanks again, Bruce!
  8. That's the Mighty 1090 in San Diego (and by San Diego, I mean Baja), which I get here in LA. :D I'll be in the car for a bit of the game, so I shall listen in then. :)
  9. Pac-10 Tourney: Wednesday: 8. Oregon State vs. 9. Arizona State 7. Oregon vs. 10. Washington State Thursday: 1. UCLA vs. 8. OSU/9. ASU 2. Washington vs. 7. Oregon/10. WSU 3. Cal vs. 6. USC 4. Arizona vs. 5. Stanford Arizona star Hasaan Adams was suspended for the tournament due to a weekend incident involving suspicion of drunk driving.
  10. Thanks for the question C4L. Since the players stay in Mesa until April 2nd I haven't seen any of them as of yet. However I will let NSBB in on a little secret that I will be headed down to Mesa for a week starting Thursday. So if I don't replay to anything from the 9th to 15th its not personal, I'm just not here. Having said that, I am very excited to see the pitchers that are rumored to be coming to either Peoria or Daytona: pawelek, holliman, veal, taylor, etc. And Yusuf Carter and Defendis and Gregg. Those are the guys I don't know that I want to check out while in Mesa and then of course to see the ones I do know like Mark Reed who was here just a month in 2005. I will definitely re-answer this question on the 16th when I return to Peoria. Anyone who has someone they want me to check out while I'm down there let me know and I'll do my best! So does that mean you'll be gone before March 17? :(
  11. Could you let me know if you have more details? I'll be in the Valley of the Sun on the 18th and 19th.
  12. I agree completely, that's my opinion (though plug in Andre Dawson for Ryno and you have my exact case). All the same, R.I.P.
  13. Ron, will you be taking e-mail questions like last time? I should hopefully be able to listen to the last half of the show.
  14. Thanks, I'm a big fan of Randy. The main reason I asked that was because Randy looks like he has the potential to be a big-time closer. Overall, what are your thoughts on Rocky Cherry? He got hurt before I started listening to your broadcasts regularly so I know very little about him compared to other pitchers in the system.
  15. The theory would be that the longer he is out due to the knee, his pitching related delay increases exponentially. It's not a 1 for 1 situation, where if you miss 1 day, you take 1 extra day to prepare. What he's saying is everyday he misses could setback his recovery from his shoulder. It would erase the progress to date and force him to almost start over where he was a week to 10 days prior to the surgery. But I think he was saying "as much as a month" meaning worst case scenario. If he can't do much throwing for 10 days (doubtful, from what I can tell) then 10 days after the surgery he would essentially be where he was several days prior to the surgery, and would then have to start from that point moving forward. I also think that was taking into account the idea that Wood might have started by mid-April, something I always thought was doubtful. I thought Woody was only missing one day of "pitching"/arm strength throwing? I thought tomorrow he will be throwing from a chair to maintain arm strength and then when he can put pressure on the leg he will play flat footed long toss etc. That would still put him behind compared to someone throwing on their feet.
  16. Here's another question about Randy Wells for you, Ron. Wells has a fastball, a slider and a change and apparently has been working on a sinker and two-seamer (according to cubs.com). I was wondering if you had seen him throw the sinker or two-seamer last year and how would you rate all the pitches he has thrown in games. Do you think Randy's major league career is in the pen or in the starting rotation?
  17. Tuesday, March 7
  18. UCLA women win the Pac-10 tourney, upsetting Stanford! :) Pac-10 Mens awards: Player of the Year: Brandon Roy, Washington Freshman of the Year: Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, UCLA Coach of the Year: Ben Howland, UCLA Arron Afflalo and Jordan Farmar made the All-Pac-10, Luc Richard Mbah a Moute was an honorable mention. Luc Richard Mbah a Moute made the all-freshman team, Darren Collison was an honorable mention (no clue why Alfred Aboya didn't make honorable mention on the all-freshman team).
  19. I guess the lesson is that you shouldn't trust anyone online who says they go to UCLA. I know 2 Victorias who went to UCLA with me. And yes, don't trust me.
  20. Wow, hey Len! Time to check out the game on TiVo.
  21. LA is better for non beach touristy things to do. San Diego is better for beach touristy things to do. In other words, if you are bringing her to play in the sand, San Diego is probably the better place. San Diego also features Legoland, Sea World and our world famous zoo. LA definitely has more things going on, but for small kids, IMO, San Diego is probably a better vacation destination. Disneyland isn't far from LA or San Diego, either. In fact, it's VERY close to Anaheim Stadium. Thanks. We're definitely looking at the SD zoo. She loves zoos and her b-day party this year is at our local zoo. I'm hoping to make a number of trips that way as I want to catch a baseball game in every park that way. If I plan a larger vacation around it, my wife is more amenable to the idea. The San Diego Wild Animal Park out in Escondido is a blast too.
