    kctigers I think you make good points, but I just want to throw this out there, and I'm sure you have a good response for it.. when discussing EqA a while back you mentioned Lugo over Izturis was about 41 runs and Soriano over Pierre only 30 runs. We'll just say thats about even, but now you have exctly zero production in CF. You would need to ensure that you had an EqA of .250 (I think that was Pierre's) to ensure you stayed the same. If Pierre is demanding 10M and Lugo 8M, that comes out to 18M, the same yearly avg of Soriano. Now there certainly might be some cheaper OF options out there to match Soriano, but who are they? Does Roberts match it? Could Pierre come close? etc.

    I think it's more the departure of MacPhail. His conservative attitude towards moves really hamstrung Hendry. Hendry is a madman. Unleash the fury, Mitch! UNLEASH THE FURY!!! The answer is all in the Krispy Kreme... One year ago Krispy Kreme's stock was at a pathetic $4.78. Currently it stands at $12.11. When Krispy Kreme is doing better you can pretty much mark half of that increase to Jim simply eating more donuts. Now thats a lot of donuts, so a lot more sugar and thus tons of energy. Signing FAs is just his outlet for all that extra energy. donut jokes? still? Actually I think this is the first time I personally have ever used a donut joke. Yea generally I don't like them, but thats cuz most of the time they just consist of "Hendry is fat and likes donuts. He spends so much time eating donuts he can't do anything else" It was really more of an attempt at making fun of those people who use the donut jokes to bash him. I'm just not funny.. meh

    Probably a 5/90 deal (thats 18 per) with the last three years as options worth 46.

    We have it from at least 3 sources so far (FoxSports, ESPN, and another)... but nothing official. I figure nothing official (from MLB or Cubs) ould be heard until tomorrow.

    Well I certianly don't like 8 years, but we'll wait to see what kind of options might exist. I can only hope it is frontloaded a bit and he produces for the next few years. If he is productive for three years and helps us win a World Series, I'll forgive the next five.

    He's still a very good player, but no I didn't want him on the Cubs. I like thos numbers though. And man, that 2004 was a real good season. Just makes me that much more sad we didn't make the playoffs.

    For the low end guys, it kind of depends on who the guy is. If a guy is a ten year vet and hitting .200/.300 and always has, it doesn't mean much. If a young guy comes in and struggles but keeps an IsoD at a high number, there is good reason to believe that as they adjust and begin to hit their IsoD will continue.

    My post wasn't even about Wells coming to the Cubs. It was based off the assumption that Toronto might value Barrett and Anaheim values Wells enough to send a couple young players, including Ervin Santana. If one of those young guys is one of Anaiem's good young catchers it might be worthwhile to pursue selling high with Barrett. Wells to Anahiem Barrett to Toronto Ervin Santana and young catcher (Mathis or Napoli, preferably Napoli) to Chicago Maybe Toronto or Chicago gets another prospect, but that would be the basis. I don't want Wells on the Cubs, especially if it includes giving up Barrett. Speaking of IsoD and IsoP... Mike Napoli: IsoD- .132 IsoP- .227 yea...

    The reason I as this is because if Barrett is worth Wells. Or simply, if the Blue Jays would want him. And the Angels would give up Santana and others for Wells, I could envision a three way that might work out nicely. Wells to Anaheim Barrett and one prospect from Cubs(Marshall?) and one from Anahiem (?) o Toronto Santana and other (?) to Chicago Throw some other prospects around if needed to complete. If the other was say a good young catcher (Anahiem has two on the 40 man) it could work out nicely. Mathis or Napoli are the two young catchers. Napoli looks a little better, but Mathis looks pretty good himself. Would they be willing to part with one? I'm not trying to actively trade Barrett, but it would be selling high, he only has one year left on hi contract, and he could either decline rapidly or do well and be expensive to keep. If we could get a nice young pitcher and replacement at catcher...

    I'm neither a huge fan or huge doubter of the trade, but will say this: This move further prooves a big move is coming and what the outcome of that deal is will ultimately determine how pleased I am.

    Most games are going to be won in the first 8 innings of the game. Put a lot of good players out there and you will win a lot of those games before the ninth.

    Drew's health is a concern, but if we equip ourselves with a good 4th OF my worries will be lessened.

    While I somewhat agree he's got a decent chance to turn his career around, I'm wondering how many more question marks we can carry around on the 40 man roster. He'd have to be willing to sign a minor league deal and spend time in AAA if he doesn't win a job, possibly out of the pen. The 40 man roster management is the biggest thing right now. That being the case, if this is done, I'd like to hold off. After the Rule 5, after we've had the chance to make some trades, etc.

    Actually before he got hot late in the year there were plenty of people calling for his head and talking about Carlos Lee in the offseason. Look it up. There were his supporters but they were not the majority.
