  1. Drew 2003 - Cardinals 2004 - Braves 2005 - Dodgers 2006 - Dodgers 2007 - ? Soriano 2003 - Yankees 2004 - Rangers 2005 - Rangers 2006 - Nationals 2007 - Cubs Seems like they're both about to be on their 4th team in 5 years. Best. Post. Ever. AlphonsOWNED
  2. You'll have to forgive me for not thinking. Between the two papers I'm simultaneously writing while trying to keep up with this the Soriano stuff, my head is fried. On a side note, I might be the only person here who's read every single post in this thread. I too have read every post.
  3. I'm having fun. :thumleft: (don't these things make non-premium people curious what the heck this is for or what it looks like?) They most certainly do... but not like $50 curious. (Sorry Tim, broke college student here) Also broke college student, but one who will have a job next semester and might be willing to pay up... maybe not... EDIT- heh, now that I think about it, I will be making $6.50 an hour so I can sit at a computer for an hour pretending to work while I read NSBB and pay for premium.
  4. Negative = Me, KC, Jon, TT, Navin, CubsinNY, Rob (might have missed a few) Positive= Everyone else Oversimplifying. There are people in the middle, as well. Besides that I really doubt someone trying to catch up cares whos on what side and moreso what each view is, not to mention details.
  5. Maybe buy low? We have enough money thrown at injury concerns with our pitching and our bullpen is pretty deep.
  6. POST OF THE YEAR! Nice work, I completely agree with everything you typed! I have to disagree. Any post that brings in Lee and doesn't get rid of Izturis is terrible IMO.
  7. Because he chose to opt out of his contract? Thats the reason I see.
  8. Well it depends on if they are team or player options. If thery are team options, Soriano surely would have demanded they be smaller so if they are not excercised he still gets most of his deal.
  9. You should meet my friend, Mr. Facts. Hmmm, Mr. Facts shows that out of 8 seasons for Drew, 4 of them were seriously hampered due to injury and 2 others were less than 140 games. That's what is known in the real universe as a player with injury problems. It also shows he was healthy the last three years except for being hit on the hand by a pitch, which you surely can't fault him for. He doesn't drink enough milk. His bones are weak.
  10. OPS isn't a "random" stat. And it only takes about 15 seconds to look it up at any number of sites. By not using OPS you openly admit to not using the stat that best determines offensive production in a cursory manner. So, how do you judge a good player? I base it on watching players. Ive seen both and Soriano has been more productive. Drew hasnt played enough in his career to prove that he is better than Soriano. Your eyes are lying to you.
  11. I have to disagree. Izturis sucks DeRosa is largely a question mark Soriano Murton Lee Ramirez Barrett DeRosa Izturis Pie no thanks.
  12. I don't think salaries will escalate all that much. Did all those big contracts that were given out in the early millenium change baseball's salaries? No, people regretted them and they dropped (before just rising now)
  13. We'll probably know by tommorow at the press conference, but from what Kaplan and other beat writers/analysts its looking like 5 years/85M with 3 option years at 17M each, or it could be 6 years/98M with 2 options years for 19M each. Those options don't make sense to me. If they are team options, I highly doubt that the Cubs would pick them up given his age. Why would Soriano allow that? If they are player options, unless Soriano becomes an all time great (he wont) why wouldn't he pick them up? I would guess that the first option year would be in the Cubs hands, but at a very steep buyout price. The other two years would be either mutual or player option. Just for example, say it works like this: 2007- 19 2008- 19 2009- 18 2010- 17 2011- 17 2012- 17 (or team option with $10M buyout) 2013- 15 (or player option with $5M buyout) 2014- 14 (or mutual option with $5M buyout) Now, while it might be easy to take the $10M buyou remember buyouts go towards the previous season, so we will have paid him $27M for 2011. Is it worth the $36M you save the next few years? If you don't buy him out, the ball is in his court and he could make an easy $15M, so you don't get to opt out until the next season. I'm sure the option years will be something along these lines.
  14. Likely only 5 or 6 years guaranteed ($90M-ish)
  15. kctigers I think you make good points, but I just want to throw this out there, and I'm sure you have a good response for it.. when discussing EqA a while back you mentioned Lugo over Izturis was about 41 runs and Soriano over Pierre only 30 runs. We'll just say thats about even, but now you have exctly zero production in CF. You would need to ensure that you had an EqA of .250 (I think that was Pierre's) to ensure you stayed the same. If Pierre is demanding 10M and Lugo 8M, that comes out to 18M, the same yearly avg of Soriano. Now there certainly might be some cheaper OF options out there to match Soriano, but who are they? Does Roberts match it? Could Pierre come close? etc.
  16. I think it's more the departure of MacPhail. His conservative attitude towards moves really hamstrung Hendry. Hendry is a madman. Unleash the fury, Mitch! UNLEASH THE FURY!!! The answer is all in the Krispy Kreme... One year ago Krispy Kreme's stock was at a pathetic $4.78. Currently it stands at $12.11. When Krispy Kreme is doing better you can pretty much mark half of that increase to Jim simply eating more donuts. Now thats a lot of donuts, so a lot more sugar and thus tons of energy. Signing FAs is just his outlet for all that extra energy. donut jokes? still? Actually I think this is the first time I personally have ever used a donut joke. Yea generally I don't like them, but thats cuz most of the time they just consist of "Hendry is fat and likes donuts. He spends so much time eating donuts he can't do anything else" It was really more of an attempt at making fun of those people who use the donut jokes to bash him. I'm just not funny.. meh
  17. Where did that extra .80 pts of OPS come from?

  19. My prediction on deal: 19, 19, 18, 17, 17, 17(mutual option w/ 10 buyout), 15 (player option w/ 5 buyout), 14 (team option w/ 5 buyout)
  20. We'll have hime lead off and just constuct the lineup around him! Soriano Lee Ramirez Jones Barrett Pitcher Izturis DeRosa Murton :D or [DeRosa,Murton,Soriano,Lee,Ramirez,Jones,Barrett,Pitcher,Izturis]
  21. How long until this reaches 100 pages?
  22. Probably a 5/90 deal (thats 18 per) with the last three years as options worth 46.
  23. We have it from at least 3 sources so far (FoxSports, ESPN, and another)... but nothing official. I figure nothing official (from MLB or Cubs) ould be heard until tomorrow.
