  1. Projecting trade partners and such is a crapshoot, but predicting trade value (relative to the spot) is much less so. A 1 to 8 trade like that is laughably low. I actually would probably just take MHJ then, (assuming they were out on QBs)
  2. I think chemistry risk is real, but people treat it like a hard line when it's just another consideration among many. And it should be a solvable risk if you actually have a good culture. As long as the backup or starter aren't total twats... Lost trade value for Fields a risk (but could also improve it) The other risk is the opportunity risk that the rookie is an immediate Herbert/Stroud level rookie and the sat year was a waste. Of course you don't know til you know and you're minimizing the risk you damage a guy by rushing them or the risk you set your team back in 2024.
  3. It's a reasonable idea. There isn't a ton of downside. But every option has downside. There doesn't exist a no downside option. If they do it I absolutely want it to be Caleb or Maye though. Not Penix or someone. That said: DBB was on an absolute heater 2 years ago with some of the coach/GM search stuff, but there's never really been a track record of him predicting player personnel and roster stuff. And if the speculation about his source being Phillips-centric was right, who knows if he even has those sources still.
  4. What a random ass rumor for January 9th lol
  5. What do you mean it's been quiet!
  6. Since he's not employed by a nfl team, no rules against having convos with him. But if it somehow came out they had an agreement before meeting Rooney Rule requirements, that is where the issue would be.
  7. The "walk back" from Cronin. This was in response to a question that was basically "Poles didn't have a say?" question Obviously a bit more nuance there. You can pass off platitudes about "football decisions" all you want, but they do own a football team and if you believe any owner doesn't have ultimate say/indluence on a Head coach hire on any of the 32 teams you'd be naive. Hiring a GM first Hiring a HC first Hiring both on commitee/dual approach All football decisions and if you actually look at league history none really preferable to the other. The only real annoying thing is McCaskeys insistence to obfuscate the issue, but the media can also be annoying about it so I can't say I don't kind of understand why lol
  8. Courtney Cronin made a comment on a podcast last week to that affect but kind of walked it back. Poles supposedly turned down Viking overtures at time Bears were pursuing him. Whether it was solely him or a committee approach, I think we can surmise he was on board with the general process, whether Eberflus was 100% his or not.
  9. Trying to remember specific examples of that 1-2 week delay (for non playoff teams). Is it usually in cases where there were some larger front office question and interworkings that slowed it down?
  10. There will inevitably be some type of announcemeknt, but perhaps not today. Think I saw Wednesday might already be on calendar for press conference day? So that would be absolute latest if so.
  11. No, Poles doesn't "cover it". Anytime there is an opening for GM or HC (think assistant GM and coordinators now too) they must bring in minority candidates fir interviews. The only weird loophole I think was if it occurred outside this year end hiring cycle, like an in season hiring, may be exempt. I think Detroit is the only teams penalized in past, in 2003 were fined 300k. Seahawks were almost gonna get penalized when they hired Carroll, but got some sweetheart deal with a token interview they gave to Frazier. But in today's climate and the NFLs continued interest in the topic I'd think anyone slipping up could see draft pick fines and not just a measly 300k.
  12. They're gonna have to tread carefully with the Rooney Rule...
  13. Yea lame duck discourse has somehow shifted where it's now a guy with 2 years left. Soon it will be 3 years IF the fans/media really don't like the guy. If it's not going to be used on a coach/GM in their final contract year it's basically 100% a media created talking point.
  14. If more than half the teams you beat fired their coach you get fired too. It's the rule.
  15. News dropped 2 minutes after midnight eastern. Has to be a Black Monday record.
  16. They've changed too many blocking rules, it doesn't matter. Why it will never be replicated.
  17. The Bears made a SB with a top 5 defense from the past 30 years and a Special Teams/ Return game advantage that will never be seen again. Cool.
  18. So is Zach's trade value restored? LA still floundering since they hung a banner for the in season tourney, let's make a deal.
  19. Go sit with Bill Polian
  20. She's lasting til at least 105, book it
  21. I would not be surprised at top 5 for Daniels at all. Leaping either Williams or Maye would be pretty shocking. But it does only take one, and if he does, someone at 3 or 4 is gonna get a freaking steal of a QB prospect.
  22. 1. Not what I said. I spoke to uncertainty of what will be there and Bears capacity to capitalize on it, not certainty of what won't be there 2. A game to go. Between 2 teams who's QBs will (likely) be in the 2024 draft? Yea, I don't think any possible consensus QB for the 2025 draft is building their case more until Sept 2024. No one stands out to even the level Maye was talked about a year+ out (let alone Williams)
  23. Obviously I get the whole alignment of coach thing, but I wouldn't want to pass up a QB over it either. We don't have to like the decision, but you'd be hard pressed to make a valid argument that there wasn't alignment in GM-HC-QB even with Flus at the helm. Likely any lake duck discourse at that point is probably more media narrative than reality (though impossible to know for sure)
  24. Cousins is the only semi realistic one I can think of, and to that I say yuck. I'd rather watch Fields have a 5 second TTT than cheer for that corny ass QB
