    Believe Bowles and Nagy have some history, so would seemingly be a natural fit.

    They have to bring in some serious competition for him, and at that point would just be a sunk cost if someone out performs him. I’d rather just have a better kicker and deal with the money. Well 2019 Parkey will probably be better than 2018 Parkey too. But spending much money on the K spot would be ill advised. It doesn't cost that much guaranteed to go and bring in a decent competitor for him.

    He's got 5 million in dead cap next year, he'll be back barring some sort of playoff nightmare. They have to bring in some serious competition for him, and at that point would just be a sunk cost if someone out performs him.

    Do my idea and make it an early entry only system then. College players enter as FA, same as an international FA would. I'd absolutely love it if it was every team for themselves, sign who you want type of thing. But, there's literally zero chance they go that direction. My magic wand says otherwise.

    It also REALLY devalues High School players draft position. No team is taking those guys anywhere remotely early, unless they're a Griffey type talent. You're not drafting guys you think you're getting 2-3 years out of, at best. When the alternative is 4-5 years of major league time out of college players. Do my idea and make it an early entry only system then. College players enter as FA, same as an international FA would.

    8 would be okay if it was from the time they were drafted at age 18. They'd hit FA at 26. Basically 4 minor league control years and 4 major league control years. Minor ammendment to my prior proposal. As soon as a player enters onto the 40 man, they are effectively treated as major leaguers and enter the rookie year salary + arbitration process; basically one rookie year scale + 4 arbitration years + final restricted right FA/arbitration year, followed by full unencumbered FA. Teams still get those 3 option years on the 40 man, which would obviously hurt a player's arbitration earnings, but not their FA timeline. Means a player would hit FA as soon as 23 or as late as 28 (assuming they were never exposed to Rule 5 or DFA).

    I have a hard time accepting the Rose nostalgia. I guess I just can't see past the situation with his accused rape and every time I think of him that comes to mind. From a pure basketball sense, it is nice to see though. not just the rape but just how freaking dumb he came across. Yep. On RealGM forums people are super nostalgic on him in a weird way, and the few that questioned that love seemed to get written off since he was found innocent by a jury, but actual legal issues aside you have his own words in which he comes off at best super dumb if not super icky.

    Interesting. The positional teir thing sounds like a bit of a headache for guys who play multiple positions or pitchers who swing between starting and reliving their first few years. Better to just let the market decide if a guy is a reliever or starter once he's ready to hit FA.

    Wow.. Yea I don't know how much the FS/SS thing matters. Fwiw, Amos was listed as the FS yesterday and Bush the SS. A claiming team on Swearinger has control left too? Forgetting this year, could be a cheap Amos plug for next year?

    Does RFA really work out for players in other pro leagues. Arbitration is actually kind of nice in some ways, the problem is its so long and drug out after like a decade of control. RFA seemed to have worked out for Zach Lavine and Kyle Fuller just to name two recent local examples. RFA is basically just arbitration by a different means, where the market sets the price instead of an arbitrator. As you say, the bigger problem is that it doesn't happen until entering the player's fourth year of service time, which in many cases might not be until almost a decade after they sign their original deal. Well there are some differences, but mainly it kills player mobility, which is a bigger deal in a league with much bigger contract constraints (max salary/years in NBA, less guaranteed money and shorter careers in the NFL, etc). Basically locks in players prime negotiating years.

    Yep, incredibly talented team that suffered from a lack of offensive coaching and a QB that couldn't develop. Yea and that Indy team wasn't that great by usual SB winner standards either.

    86 and 06 were better at least at this point. The 2011 team before the Cutler then Forte injury was rolling too. I thought that team had a shot to go to the SB.     Um, the theory wasn't that the 9ers were selecting Mitch. It's that other teams were active in the trade-up market. A decent theory as two other teams did indeed trade up for a QB. At the end of day didn't it boil down to flipping spots for a draft pick? Pace got one the picks back in a later trade with Arizona, isn't that correct? I wouldn't view him as having gotten any of those picks back. Separate deals. It was basically a somewhat expensive premium he paid on an insurance policy. Once he had the pick he was certain no one else could pay more to get it.

    Although it does kinda suck that Mahomes is looking like the better QB, but we can hold out hope that Mitch is just a year behind in the system and can catch up. But it's also hard to imagine him actually catching up since Mahomes arm talent is Cutler-ian, and Trubisky is not. So we'll have the second best QB in that class, but hopefully he ends up being the second best QB in the league at his peak too. But it will still kinda suck.

    No idea, but I think I've also been pretty clear from the beginning this is primarily just me talking myself into being okay with the non-bye so I'm not disappointing myself leading up to the playoffs. Even preferring it! I know there are some Chiefs fans and Chargers fans doing the same thing, prepping for a 12 or 13 win season and WC road trip and how it's gonna benefit them because *reasons*.
