  1. Every game is elimination football in the playoffs though lol. yes but fewer rounds of elimination are by definition better than more of them it would make a substantial difference to our championship odds i mean i know you know this so i'm just trying to figure out what the hell you meant by that lol I guess I just read it differently in context as if there was something unique about the WC elimination (like baseball's). For sure there is just the opportunity context, the more chances at elimination, the better your chances of being eliminated, so that makes sense, but is there any serious study as to the rust factor in football? My casual research on pro football reference guides me to believe most SB winners weren't playing WC weekend, but do bye and non bye teams play similarly as their expected performance? The bye teams might just often be substantially better which is why they advance more, but if the expected matchup is closer, as I would expect any Bears divisional opponent to be, does a rust factor make any difference? Also, convaluted fan logic wants me to see a playoff football win., and more of them if possible.

  3. I know they will. I don't know if that's the right approach, but I expect it. Apparently if the bye is in play they could move the Bears back to coincide with the Rams game? In that case, you might get, at best case a halftime adjustment to strategy if either game is out of hand, but you obviously can't change your active roster at that point. i'd say it's def the right play. football is weird. your superbowl odds increase by skipping a round of the playoff gauntlet + a little bit of added benefit of getting to potentially play the rams at home if you run into them outweighs the risk of a serious injury to a key player (injury that he wouldn't entirely or mostly recover from in time for the divisional round) in trying to win those two games, IMO...even if it does hinge on football being weird enough for the rams to lose to an inferior opponent the next two weeks. The bye week kind of would scare me with this team (really Mitch), though I guess if you mail it in week 17, that's like a de facto bye, anyways. Obviously if the CHI v MIN matchup is fairly certain, there could be some gamesmanship, i.e. You put in your full effort, but hold back a little from the game plan. I mean, I'm sure there's not much you can hide from a division opponent, but try and win with as vanilla gameplanas possible. OR throw out some weird new stuff that you don't actually plan to use, just to throw them off.

  5. There wouldn't be a tie, Saints are 13-3 and Bears 12-4 in your scenario Oops. For some reason I thought we were only one behind them. But you answer the tiebreaker what if generally speaking, the Bears hold it over LA and NO (but not DAL).
  6. PTR: "wait the MLB minimum wage isn't 7.25 an hour? PJR:" don't worry we'll get of minimum wages soon enough"
  7. Also, with the Rams loss last night and the Rams playing at 3:00 week 17, the Bears most likely will be playing for a bye week 17 now. So don't count on seeing a preaseason type game. And the one scenario that puts a bye out of reach (a Bears loss next week) could also put the 3 seed at risk, so they'd still be playing for something. Basically my "root for mayhem" list did pretty well last night.
  8. Yet they somehow still felt lucky to be in it. It think they recovered a fumbled kick return too which evened out the Pats big ST plays a bit.
  9. oh nice, so things get more interesting if the Panthers fighting for their playoff lives beat the Saints tomorrow Two games with the Panthers and the Steelers sandwiched in between. While one dropped game (either looking ahead now that they have a one game lead, or wk 17 if they are wrapped up on the 1 seeeld) would be understandable, it's definitely hard to imagine them dropping two. Still, it's a non-zero chance, so we can hope.
  10. Except for the Patriots game. Yes we had the Hail Mary caught at the 1 but it took a bit of a last ditch comeback to even get to that point and even if we scored there it only ties the game. Plus Parkey wasn’t practicing at Soldier Field yet so he probably blows the PAT. But if that’s our most decisive defeat, we’ve had a pretty damn good season I was actually thinking the Giants game was even less of a what if. It took even crazier set of circumstances to get the comeback, and there wasn't quite a decisive "almost play" in OT. Ranked: GB loss (what if Fuller catches the ball) Miami loss (what if Parkey makes the FG) NE loss (what if White catches the ball two yards forward) NY loss (what if Daniels doesn't drop the ball 15 times).
  11. Basically every loss for the Bears can be chalked up to one what if play, no?
  12. As a noon game, it's doubtful to be locked in at kickoff, but may not be the end of the game. If I’m looking at this, the Vikings would need a win next week and then Washington, Carolina and Philly would all need at least one loss (Washington in Week 16, Carolina and Philly either this week or next). Washington is at Tennessee, Carolina has home games against NO and Atlanta, while Philly has this current game in LA and at home against Houston. (Also Minny is at Detroit). I don’t think it’s that big of a stretch that they clinch next week A win by WAS or PHI next week (if PHI holds on tonight) or a MIN loss makes week 17 technically relevant. A less likely Car win tomorrow and next week does as well. A SEA loss next week also keeps things open in the other direction (Min winning 5 seed). I certainly don't think it's a stretch that they clinch next week, but there are so many paths that lead to them not clinching and basically only one that does. I think I'd take the field.
  13. Being generally healthy and also a young team, avoiding a bye could be a good thing (I tried to convince myself).
  14. If it's locked in as Bears/Vikings for the first round of the playoffs, that game is definitely going to be very much like last game of the pre-season. As a noon game, it's doubtful to be locked in at kickoff, but may not be the end of the game.
  15. Yeah, that's usually a 1-2 week injury, so we *should* be in the clear. The question now is how much should Nagy take his foot off the gas the next two weeks. Play next week like normal and them treat week 17 like a preseason game? Or knock both teams in the teeth and hopefully the Vikings completely out of it Honestly the Vikings could lose out and still have decent odds. That game has a good chance of not mattering.
  16. Games to root for the rest of this week and next for maximum week 17 madness; Tonight' SF w over SEA PHI w over LAR CAR w over NO NE w over PIT Week 16 DET over MIN TEN over WAS LAC over BAL IND over NYG PHI over HOU MIA over JAX CLE over CIN PIT over NO ARI over LAR CHI over SF CAR over ATL KC over SEA DEN over OAK TB over DAL Ties could create more madness in certain situations as well.
  17. Playing around with the ESPN playoff simulator and it seems the Cowboys have the upper hand on tie breaker. However, the Bears just need 1 of 2 to clinch.
  18. Damn he should have been downing that too.
  19. Whoops Cohen. Right call to make it the two score game.
  20. Love the confidence there to use that TO and get set... They were thinking TD the whole way and not FG.
  21. Damn, what a beautiful play, letting your bell cow RB run up the middle untouched for a score inside the 10.
  22. Needed to understand this in the context if the nearly equally helpless Bears QB history. They gave had these seasons more since 1987 (Kramer, Grossman, Cutler(x4), Trubisky. They gave however done it less overall, 12 to 13, in their entire history. When Kramer did it in 95, it was the first in 30 years.
  23. I thought I'd actually watch some Bulls bball last night but turned it off after that horrible first half lol.
