Yea. Even this game, I'd say whining about the refs is dumb. Theres only been one time I ever thought the refs were to blame for a loss and the scenario was allowing a untimed final play when the game should have ended on a penalty (this was a HS football game). Every other situation is basically entitled man child whining. also i'm pretty sure there have been way more times than your one high school game that the refs blew calls that altered the outcome of games. like a lot horsefeathering more. and calvin johnson definitely caught that touchdown. we can all go ahead and admit that now. the only reason the fail mary is defensible is because it was a result of that debacle with the replacement refs. Every other bad red call I can ever think of is ultimately a judgement call though. The judgement can be horsefeathering terrible, but that's just part of the game. Totally misrepresentation of the rulebook is another thing. It'd be like an umpire granting 4 outs in an inning. So yes, that's the only one I can chalk up to the refs without feeling like a whining man child (and fwiw I had no rooting interest in said game). Also this strategy is similar in nature to what the Ravens did in the Harbaugh-bowl SB, which is basically that, running the clock out is valuable if you have the ball with the lead, even if you have to commit murder and/or penalties. A potential shortcoming in the rules, but a correct call nonetheless.

Depends on what turning the corner might mean. He's not gonna be a tier 1(Rodgers )or tier 2 (Rivers) or tier 3 (Ryan) . Can he be a Flacco/tier 4? Maybe, I'd say.

I don't think the though process is odd, he's just a much more open book than Lovie or Fox were. And Trestmam would have probably gotten very philosophical about it. So it's been a while since we had this mix of openness and straightforwardness than were used to as Bears fans. His hands were tied only so much in he obviously wants to respect the autonomy of his coaches even though it's clearly his call to override what they say, if he wants.

Was just watching the presser. He clearly states there's of course variability, and brought up the game winning kick scenario as an obvious one where you bend the rule or whatever. I don't know if it was perfect conditions. There was definitely some wind and according to Nagy, had it been in the other direction, 51 was in play, so they were going in the bad direction I guess. However, if 49-50 was your limit they did a poor job of maybe setting up something more manageable (or conversely opening up your 3rd and 4th down playbooks instead of 4th and 10). I think there was a penalty too that pushed them back.

They definitely sunk a lot of resources into improving it. This is an improved Packers D, and assuming Rodgers was also just dealing from the rust of no preseason as well, this Packers team will compete for the division crown again. It's improved however, there were plenty of openings to exploited, average to good QB play would have put way more than 3 points on the scoreboard. 10 points, maybe, with that play calling.

Let's get a possible contingency plan to making an average QB one of the highest paid players in the game in 2 years. Replacing Mitch with cheap, but adequate QB play is probably the only way to extend the window if Mitch isn't making that leap. It sucks with such a lack of draft picks but it's almost a requirement to draft a QB in each of the next two drafts* *assuming no dramatic turnaround from trubisky Yup.

I'm not nearly enough of an expert to assign an exact percentage live, but I'm pretty sure that not going down the field wasn't playcalling but rather a combination of the offensive line not giving him any time and Trubisky panicking and checking down too early. how good is GB's Dline anticipated to be? Was last night a harbinger of our Olines season ahead, or GB's Dline? They definitely sunk a lot of resources into improving it. It wasn't about just running it more. Many of the pass plays that were called were of basically the same concept. Look 10 yards down the field. If that pass isn't available, force it anyway or dump it. There was no attempt to spread the field in the entire first half. The safeties were leaning forward on every play call because every play that was called was in front of them. You brag about having all of this amazing speed (Cohen, Gabriel, Patterson) and you do absolutely nothing with it. Maybe the coach knows more about Trubisky than we do, and that spreading the field is just not an option with this QB. If that's the case, it's going to be a long season. Pack dropped 7 and rushed 4 most of the time in the first half. If they're getting decent pressure with those 4, which they did, any offense is going to struggle, but Nagy definitely didn't come up with an answer to it in the second. Rushing more probably would have been a reasonable option though.

Plus a 96 passer rating in the favorable sample side split is pretty average in today's NFL.

Through a half of rewatching offensive plays and Mitch was probably the 4th or 5th "best" offensive player (low bar) last night after AR, Montgomery, Whitehair, and probably Cohen. Maybe Davis was better too, but the rest of the line, the other WRs and the TEs all sucked. Nagy takes the cake for suckiness though above them all.

Starting to re-watch the offensive plays this morning and my early hot take is that Nagy being outcoached is more to blame than Mitch last night. The line also gets equal blame, a couple times already that Pack got a good rush with no blitzes and I already know they were penalized a bunch later in the game. One play that really stuck out early was his first real throw (following a batted pass and a scramble) . A designed roll out boot with 7 man protection and GB drops 7 in coverage. So GB has 2 in coverage to every 1 Chicago receiver on the short side of the field. And the outside rusher still got a hand in Mitch's face. Mitch way over throws Tarik on the boundary. He really only makes that one read, but it was really a 1 or 2 read play in which case, "throw where no one can get it" was the best decision. But that was only after being out schemed and outplayed on the line. I suspect this is what I'll find the rest of the game, that Mitch made a few bad mistakes, but penalties, line/TE play and play calling limit him before he even can even try and get going. We really learned anything new about Mitch last night. He'll have some baller games again this year, but you just have to keep the perspective that he's only ever gonna do that within the system and never going to lift up poor play (and definitely not poor play calling). He's not gonna be a Rodgers or even a Rivers or Ryan, but Nagy has to figure out how to make him a Flacco or Eli Manning so this defense isn't wasted.

Figured this was coming as they moved around some cap hits the other week. Yeah this was expected, but good to see pen to paper. I thought I read they had $20+ million free, so I'm curious where the rest of that money is going (or maybe this deal is just crazy front-loaded?) Doubtful there's another extension candidate. Maybe Bush if they felt they could lock him in on a cheap deal and replace Ha Ha next year.

Theory. They want to IR Coward due to his elbow, but with designation to return. Which means he has to make the initial 53 man. Let Bars through waivers, IR Coward today or tomorrow and sign Bars. Or they just think Bars will pass through waivers and they'll sign him to PS.
