  1. if there's any truth to it, i'd think of it less as "preventing" and more as doing him a courtesy. but i'm pretty doubtful of the idea that his absence means anything.
  2. ha i forgot that he was one of those world series ring presenters
  3. I don’t think this guys actually knows anything. He’s just trying to connect dots that don’t exist on Zobrist’s absence. That being said I could see them thinking trading Zobrist to free up money for Kimbrel on a reduced deal makes sense. FWIW he's claiming a reliable source. who knows if that just means it's his buddy at spring training telling him that zobrist isn't there.
  4. He's a huge weirdo dork but maybe he knows someone. I've seen him from time to time as one of those fans that gets on TV a lot. Let this be a way cooler version of Fowler
  5. something not absolutely abysmal from this team [tweet]https://twitter.com/Cubs_Live/status/1097582209173778437[/tweet]
  6. Yeah, I saw the link for the article online, but it's from Jim Bowden so why bother? He's a joke inside the industry. Part of the older generation of execs that nobody wants to hire anymore. Oh thanks for letting us know
  7. If the Cubs sign Harper, this sub-forum should be named after Chuck

  9. Until it comes out that he's retaining the services of a known vile spousal abuser and creating a partnership with one of the biggest threats to our democracy, he's a horsefeathering saint to me. https://apnews.com/33669ecef55d816961175641f2358613 https://www.nytimes.com/1996/11/20/sports/belle-signs-the-richest-deal-5-years-55-million.html https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/07/white-sox-acquire-brett-myers.html https://www.theintelligencer.com/news/article/White-Sox-Reach-Deal-for-Carl-Everett-10550197.php
  10. Brandon hates the Simpsons and posts Friends GIFs how do you spot out a sociopath for 1000
  11. Were the 2009-15 Blackhawks a dynasty? Nope. And it always annoyed me that people tried to claim it. Anytime we have a perfectly good word for describing something, fans have to stretch it because they really want their favorite to qualify. And then the stretch gets stretched. And then the stretched stretch gets stretched. Next thing you know, you get something blithering like the Cubs winning two division titles and having two split wild cards being put up as a possible dynasty. Dynasty was coined to describe things like UCLA basketball under Wooden or the post WWII Yankees. I’m willing to allow for a little bit of a stretch to something like 3 straight titles or 4 in 5 years, but even that is starting to water it down quite a bit. Sharp-Toews-Hossa Teuvo-Anisimov-Kane Dano-Shaw-Panarin Versteeg/Bickell-Kruger-Nordstrom/Hartman/Morin That would be one of the best set of centers we've iced on opening night in the dynasty era. http://www.northsidebaseball.com/archive/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=64050&p=3233281&hilit=dynasty#p3233281

  13. MLB Network also had Yadier Molina as their #2 catcher in all of baseball, so let's not get too wrapped up in their hot takes It's based on PECOTA, not their hot takes. Apparently he didn't read the last few pages and you didn't read that post, lol.
  14. well, he probably didn't have a script, but he was definitely coached and given some talking points. he sounded like he was a robot reading a script the whole time, but, as others have mentioned, he kinda always sounds like that. it's also entirely possible he looked directly at the reporter he was answering when giving these canned responses.
  15. Its not a bad general rule, but I'd call the 1 championship 90s Braves a dynasty. i'll allow it with all those division titles, but i'd prefer to go with "run" to describe that one
  16. championships it's all luck but it still comes down to championships for that word to be invoked. more than one. probably more than 2. the 90s yankees and the 2010s giants.
  17. [tweet] [/tweet]
  18. Russell sounds like he's reading the answers to every one of these questions like a robot, but he's directly answering questions from the reporters. He must've been coached on answers to almost anything he could possibly be asked. I understand that he's nervous but this is weird as hell.

  20. If they're ever up a ton in Cincinnati I would pay good money for Javy to come up and bat lefty. oh my god what i wouldn't give to hear thom call that
  21. I know Baez and Lester are for sure there, I am not entirely sure if the others are there but I feel like I did see Zobrist in some pics. Also: [tweet] [/tweet]

  23. What’s the difference? One is a distributor and one is a cable provider? that's one of many, yes.
  24. go back about 7 or 8 years and imagine this being said
  25. A few years ago, for the record, means 12. That was the 2007 team.
