i find it hard to hate jaxon that much for his performance because of how bad most of those teams were. as a deep cut, i'd like to throw 2015 brian schlitter in the mix. i would get so mad when joe would bring him in. i'm amazed that was somehow only 7 innings. felt like 50+

Yeah I mentioned that too. It's certainly possible it was just a coincidence but I really want to believe the Cubs were taking one last stab. That said, I feel like even if the Cubs were really good at not leaking info, if the Cubs were talking to one or more teams in a last gasp attempt to clear space, I feel like we would have heard at least some rumblings. does heyman dropping our name in 2 days ago count as "some rumblings?"

Well obviously it’s a trade and it would have to provide some benefit to the other team. I’m not sure if a random rebuilding AL team cares if they are facilitating the Cubs getting Harper if it means they are picking up a top Cubs prospect or two along with a player they can spin off at the deadline (Zobrist) or a respected clubhouse guy that can try to overhaul his offense in a no pressure situation while still providing positive value overall or even just a good team that knows it isn't in the harper market. zobrist at $12M for one year is an attractive option for a lot of teams.

i don't see why a bunch of teams who aren't even trying to get harper would care if they can get a deal that makes sense for them. particularly with zobrist, who has surplus value.

Sounds like something intentionally leaked from the Phillies to try and drive the price down (or at least, stop it from spiraling upward). i don't see how a report that they are feeling bad about their chances and that they prob won't spend the money elsewhere (on keuchel or kimbrel) does much to drive the price down

i never really hated him to begin with. i was a big fan when he was in anaheim, so it was cool to see him do well for the cubs. my cardinal hate wasn't fully realized yet at that point, either.

Edmonds' dong against STL when he bat flipped and glared into their dugout was a good one too. I've never 180'd on a player before or since like Jim Edmonds. Joakim Noah was my biggest, easily.
