Maybe they just told the truth because not everything is a Machiavellian min-maxing strategy. what do they have to lose by letting boras throw their name in? these are the most slam dunk theo/cubs targets ever. and their name is always in on the biggest FAs.

the other weird thing is why are we not at least pretending we're interested...what reason is there behind putting the message out there that they are in a budget crunch? why piss off your fans when you can make it look like you tried and you just didn't win out? none of it makes sense to me. there has to be something going on that goes beyond what the media is saying.

It's still the only storyline that makes sense to me. honestly it makes no sense to me that we would be SO cash strapped that we haven't spent anything of significance if we aren't trying to keep that money free for harper (or machado i guess)

Having him show up at the Convention didn't happen, so we might as well hope for spring training. If that doesn't happen, we can hope for opening day. at least he hasn't shown up anywhere for anyone else yet either

There's still like 5% of me that wishfully thinks we swoop in and get him in the end. Picture how horsefeathering awesome it would be to actually see that play out and have him show up at spring training in a couple weeks.

I'll pick on David since he's far from the worst offender, but the uptick of people in the minor league forum loudly proclaiming how much they don't care about the minor leaguers(or worse, loudly claiming no one should) is weird. It's okay to like prospects even when the team is good, and even if there isn't a system full of Kris Bryants to follow. If that's not your thing that's fine, the entire forum is partitioned off for your benefit! active topics for life if the prospects were actually good i wouldn't call them dorks for now they are all dorks
