  1. Especially when you're playing a team whose performance has a direct impact on your playoff odds.
  2. The thing is, it doesn't necessarily have to take until beyond this season for the effects of such overuse to manifest themselves.
  3. as someone who corrects people for their grammar, you might want to avoid phrases like "might could"   Is that some kind of Louisiana thing or something? I've seen that before, though extremely infrequently.
  4. Yep. I was at practice today. Kreutz looked fine. Williams still watched. Tommie Harris limped to the practice field. Is he still hurt? I have been a Bears fan all my life, but have never been to a game, so this was the first time that I have seen the team in action. It was pretty neat. The TE Davis is an extremely large man. Olsen was a lot bigger than I had imagined. Hester is really small. It was quite the sight to see exactly how far Maynard can punt the ball. The sound that it makes coming off of his foot is about three times louder than anything I had heard before. If Orton gets the starting role, does he have the arm strength to get the ball to Hester deep? Hester signed a hefty contract, but he isn't going to go over the middle. He has to be the deep threat, but do we have a deep threat type of QB with Orton? Listened to Boers and Bernstein live. Terry was pretty sweaty and smelly. He can throw a deep ball, but not consistently and he'll often underthrow it somewhat. It doesn't really matter, though, because I'm almost positive Grossman is winning and will win this job. Orton isn't really helping his case, either, with another two picks today. He has thrown more picks than any of the QBs in camp by a good margin.
  5. Kreutz in pads and in practice after passing a physical today.
  6. Some of the local radio guys have actually seen the blister itself. Count me among those that doesn't think the Cubs are involved in some conspiracy to disguise an arm problem as a blister.
  7. I agree. I guess what I'm saying is, if the offense on the whole can manage to be mediocre, this should be a good team. I figured a "decent" line would be enough to help this offense be mediocre, but who knows what decent really is. Either way, I think the team can be a lot better than people are expecting, but that really hinges on just how much getting rid of Fred Miller and Ruben Brown helps and how much better, if at all, we are with the expected upgrades at LT and RT.
  8. Valid points but a big part of the reason the 2006 team led the league in scoring was because of the defensive scores and Hester, right? Wasn't the offense statistically still low-middle of the pack? A mediocre offense was enough for that team to dominate with.
  9. What exactly is wrong with taking a curtain call after a game tying HR by one of the most scalding hot hitters in baseball?
  10. So tell me why don't pitchers who throw a lot of change ups, throw the change up pitch inside as much as they throw it outside? Tell me where I'm wrong. I don't necessarily disagree with what you're saying in this particular thread. I honestly don't really know enough about it to comment on it with any authority. That said, as has been shown numerous times throughout history, the fact that something is and has been done a certain way by most for a long time doesn't mean it's being done the "right" way. But again, I can't say I really know, either way. *shrug* Certainly, intuitively it makes more sense to throw change-ups away more often than inside, but I can see how an inside change-up on occasion can be a good weapon in a pitcher's arsenal.
  11. If the line is decent, I don't see much difference between this team and the 06 team (other than the competition in the division).... If it's not... then it's 2007 all over again, but with better defense.
  12. Arrogance and condescension are extra funny when they're often paired up with wrongness.
  13. Umm, what? if he doesn't develop into a #1 or #2 WR, then his value is limited to returns, where most teams will kick the ball away from him or, on punts, just kick it out of bounds Teams aren't going to risk kicking it out of bounds on kick offs and the trade off for squibs on kick offs and kicking out of bounds in punts is great field position to the Bears. Despite the bigger emphasis on stopping Hester/kicking away from him last season, he returned 6 punts and kickoffs for touchdowns. Exactly. And even if he doesn't get the TDs, the field position provided by their reluctance to kick to him is huge.
  14. Well, he did figure out how to strike people out in the past month or so. That said, the KRod/Joba comparisons are extremely premature.
  15. That is some hard core research, right there.
  16. This is one of those annoying AB's that results in a HR.
  17. How can you possibly stay that overweight on a vegetarian diet? I mean, what the hell is he eating?
  18. The only problem with that philosophy is that it goes against the physics of hitting. If a batter is fooled he'll start is bat early. If it's inside he hits it hard, foul or fair, because he gets the fat of the bat on the ball. If it's outside he hits it weak of the end of the bat or misses the ball. It's a matter of physics. That and ball bearings. It's all ball bearing nowdays. A matter of phyiscs yes, but none of that comes into play if the hitter is suprised and leaves the bat on his shoulder. Look at all the called strikes Lilly was getting on that pitch. This should go without saying, but if the hitter leaves his bat on his shoulder it doesn't matter where the ball is thrown so long as it's called a strike. On top of it, if a hitter is so likely to be caught off guard by such a pitch and swing too early, even if he hits it hard, isn't he very likely to crush that ball foul?
  19. Eh, I sort of worded that poorly. I didn't mean to say he played there only one game. I was just referring to that one game, if that makes sense. Wasn't sure if he had played more than just that game there.
  20. Those numbers vs. Sabathia are definitely encouraging.
