  1. lol if Harden didn't have this start and the one against Atlanta, his K-BB ratio this year would be absolutely unheard of. It's nasty enough as it is.
  2. Ugh, Hughes drives me NUTS... I can't stand listening to games, I need to watch.
  3. Ugh.. Hughes gets me again... LINED TOWARD LEFT down the line fouuuul Totally sounded like a hit
  4. That's not really out of the norm. He'll hit upwards of 95-96 on occasion, but he's typically in the range you just listed.
  5. It's ok, we got this. LOL at Santo. I'm pretty sure it's the changeup that acts like a splitter, not a slider. He actually does throw a slider, but on very very rare occasion, and he doesn't throw the split at all anymore.
  6. So we're at like 93.something% to win the division on BP's odds report, now. I wonder how much a Brewer loss and a Cub win today would ramp that up...
  7. So you're pronouncing it "lawl"?
  8. The upcoming schedule doesn't really even concern me that much. The only games left that worry me at all are the Brewers and maybe the Mets, but we could very well have the division wrapped up by the time most of those games come up.
  9. They have the best pythag in baseball by 7 games, over Boston.
  10. You are a cool Brewer fan.
  11. They've actually gone 7-3, but that screws up your syllables.
  12. Do they always play this during the games? Because they def. played it at Wrigley when the Phillies were changing pitchers in the 8th. You can hear it on the radio broadcast YES, my movement is taking hold, whether you guys like it or not!
  13. I would absolutely take you up on that if I weren't working.
  14. IMO, anyone who doesn't crumble (perform significantly worse than norm) under pressure is clutch. That's my definition. Taking that to be true, most players are clutch. Most players can perform to their normal abilities in higher leverage situations. There are some who will perform better than their norms in these situations, and whether that's a pure anomaly/coincidence or there's a real reason for it is up for debate. That said, I think it's quite a bit of a reach to say that players will step it up another notch in key spots. It's hard enough as it is to hit a baseball, I don't see how the gravity of a certain situation can increase a player's ability to perform. But, anyway, most players are clutch. The only ones who aren't are the un-clutch gutless choking dogs. Then again, there's stuff like adrenaline and stuff that kicks in for people and some people actually do rise to the occasion in important moments (just generally, in life), so who the hell knows. I think it's just easier to look at it my way.
  15. No, I don't think there's really anyone that stands out that you could expect to be better than Gooz.
  16. Is that what he said? I could be wrong, but I got the impression that he was saying that it was during game 5, when they saw the way Wood was pitching, that Chipper said that.
  17. well, that's just stupid. what law dictates you're either worse or better in "clutch" spots? How about just worse or not worse?
  18. this is, of course, ridiculous and really, really terrible logic. i believe in choking, as it's obvious someone can crumble under pressure. but the idea that someone can magically enhance their ability in certain situations is enough to make me not believe in "clutch." if ramirez had the ability to turn it on in certain spots or enhance his focus in certain situations, he would do it all the time and make millions and millions of more dollars. unless it's like video game power that can only be used for so long...like the wings in super mario 3. You're missing the point entirely. And no, his logic is absolutely sound. If, as you concede, there are certain players that are "anti-clutch" -- that choke in certain situations, the players that do not "choke" in those situations will show an improved level of performance simply by maintaining their focus and ability in those same situations. This isn't complicated. If 25% of players have "anti-clutch" traits that result in poorer performance in high leverage situations, the other 75% will on whole show greater performance in those same situations. You had me till you used that word.
  19. Couldn't we just say that the guys who are clutch are the ones who *don't* crumble in the high pressure spots and do perform at least to their normal abilities and be done with it?
