  1. Paxson won't be fired for a long time. The team would have to be monumentally bad. Like the Bulls from 98-2003ish bad. The job is his until he wants to leave, IMO.
  2. If you don't count any of Game 6, Game 4 was probably the happiest I've ever been as a Cubs fan. That said, a lot of 2008 is up there with it.
  3. I have no problem with that. They can keep raising ticket prices if they keep raising payroll. How many tickets are you purchasing to see a game? Family of 4? 5? People don't have an inalienable right to attend baseball games at a price that is conventient to them. I probably went to less than 5 games at Wrigley as a kid. When I started paying for myself I went a heck of a lot more often. And when I have kids, I'll probably buy a couple times per year. But you can get by going to a game as a family for less than $200. That's comparable to a lot of other family entertainment options. It's far cheaper than attending most amusement parks. It's cheaper than football, basketball or hockey games. It's not that hard for most families to scrape together the money needed to enjoy a game. Season tickets? Obviously not, but a game or two a year is not going to setback anybody. But regardless, the payroll isn't what determines ticket prices. Ticket prices rise to reflect demand, and they are kept artificially low already for PR reasons. Awesome post.
  4. i am guessing that you don't like the text on post on this here messageboard, do you fella? wat
  5. Looks like pitchers lockers exclusively. I'm gonna miss DeRo... :|
  6. Kneejerk negativism. Right Listen dopey this team will be lucky to win 50 games. Only people like Al Yellon think this team is good. Adam Dunn would make this team great but without him this season is already over I'm assuming this is sarcasm. If not, I rest my case. I'll go ahead and say that's a safe assumption.
  7. Because that makes too much sense. Shoulder surgery isn't like breaking a bone, where you wait a month or 2 for it to heal and it's good as new. Opting for surgery puts Harden's chances of pitching at all in '09 in serious jeopardy. that is very true and understood, however, how many times has a pitcher had a "should tear"...i don't even know what in the world that is...and was still able to perform well for an entire season? is it even possible? Kerry Wood has been pitching with a tear in his shoulder for a few years. But he's not a starter anymore. Opting for surgery also puts Harden's chances of ever pitching again in jeopardy to some extent. If it really is just a minor tear, he's probably better off attempting to work around it and seeing if/how it heals.
  8. According to the Score updates, they're phrasing it as though the owner has been chosen and they're just waiting on someone to announce/say something.
  9. Except how good you actually are barely matters once you're in the playoffs.
  10. IIRC, Patterson only had one really really good year in the minors... with the Lugnuts. Pie killed at every level after getting a chance to acclimate himself.
  11. And once again, its looking like the Padres are going to have to move Peavy to make their budget number. Girlfriend-beater isn't going anywhere. With Peavy limiting the teams he'll go to (possibly even to just us at this point), he doesn't have all that much trade value.
  12. None of the guys we've gotten really seem like the kind of guys Towers would want for Peavy. The only move that is even marginal on its own is DeRosa. The others make perfect sense on their own. Huh? Isn't Olson a name that Towers has had rumored interest in for a while, aside from being one of the more prominently mentioned names in the deals that never were a month and a half ago?
  13. Or Aldridge which we had and traded for Tyrus Did you just not read what you quoted or something?
  14. i was thinkin the same thing
  15. Definitely. Just saying it's not necessarily true that 99% of posters here would OPS 000. But I'm just in an argumentative mood.
  16. I'm fairly certain 99% of the people on this board would have OPSd 000 last year. No point arguing about this really, but whatever... Even pitchers who have no apparent hitting talent whatsoever manage to luck into a hit now and then. Then again, they are athletic and coordinated enough to be extremely good at throwing a baseball, so that in itself separates them from the average person. I think there are probably some pitchers out there who are basically like an average guy off the street at the plate, though. Rich Hill is pretty horrendous. I don't know.
  17. I'm glad Gregg is getting a "chance" at the closer role. Now I just have to hope he's absolutely dominant or Marmol screws up in spring training somehow to turn them off from doing it. I'd much rather have Marmol in the role he had last year.
  18. i clicked this expecting a link to this LOL thread at cubs.com instead i opened a new email to Lol@cubs.com.
  19. Does he at least have some kind of gimmicky delivery that could result in him being effective for a year or so in very limited innings as a loogy?
  20. exactly now opening day can't get here soon enough... thanks a lot ](*,)
  21. Actually, everyone has won one more recently than the Cubs. Not true. Nobody has waited as long as the Cubs, but the Padres, Astros, Brewers, Mariners, Rangers, Nationals, Rockies, and Rays have not won more recently than the Cubs because they have never won a WS. yup yup
  22. although the incessant negativity by some people does actually annoy me sometimes. not gonna lie. that's my problem, though... i should read less or something.
  23. lmfao, yea, i should calm down. i'm well known to fly off the handle here.
  24. A few other teams have a pretty cool fan experience, but I'm not going to sit here and list them all. I'm not trying to argue or anything, I just think being a Cubs fan is pretty awesome.
